Micah Johnson should be White Sox second baseman
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 18, 2015 -> 08:17 AM) Right now, hard to say, but I think he'd be on par overall (just better at some things, worse at others). This 30 PA in Arizona are really only a small part of the evaluation for me, and the stats are not even a major part of that, as I detailed in the article. That too. Though he still really only has a short time in AAA, which is a concern. I think the time is now for Micah without extra seasoning in the minors. As you said he's got options to burn and he brings the most to the table of any of his competitors. Certainly a case can be made for Sanchez but he is almost 2 years younger and Micah seems very mature and ready for the challenge that lies ahead. It wouldn't hurt Sanchez to spend another year in the minors . Micah's speed will only play for so long as that mid twenty something age turns to 30 quickly . If his speed is going to play I'd rather it be sooner than later. BTW it's caveat emptor not umptor .

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) Dare I say... A Grinder? Grinder sometimes has a negative connotation like "not much talent but a lot of heart." So no don't you dare say grinder. I like future All-Star

The Bench
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 17, 2015 -> 12:07 PM) 100% agree, which is my beef with Beckham. I'm fine with him as a reserve infielder, but I'd rather have used the money on a legit 4th OF that could also fill in for LaRoche against tough LHP and settled for Sanchez or Saladino in Gordon's role. I love Bonafacio as a pure utility guy, who provides value through his speed and versatility that WAR can't fully account for, but I'm terrified of him being an everyday OF if someone goes down. Our lack of OF depth is our biggest risk on the position player side IMO. I'm still holding out hope that the teams with surplus OF's like the Red Sox and Padres look to move one of them and the Sox bite. Not likely considering what the Sox are paying Bonifacio and Beckham but ya never know.

Breakouts? Quintana, Semien and Sxtlk fav MSaunders
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) Jose Quintana was a 3.7 WAR pitcher in 2013 and a 5.3 WAR pitcher in 2014. The breakout already happened. Exactly. How much better can he get than that 5.3 ? I'd be real happy with that for the next 6 years.

Breakouts? Quintana, Semien and Sxtlk fav MSaunders
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 12:19 PM) Who here loves Saunders? I chatted him up pretty good before we got Melky and LaRoche ( I think) when it was rumored Seattle would more than likely be moving him. I ,too, thought if he could stay injury free he was the right age for a breakout plus we needed a lefty bat at the time . I remember other posters echoing that sentiment.

Breakouts? Quintana, Semien and Sxtlk fav MSaunders
QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) But so is Quintana -- they both pitched yesterday. My take -- the Sox will go with Quintana. He's been an exemplary citizen and performer for a few years now. National recognition means nothing -- everyone who knows baseball knows that Quintana and Samardzija are in the same general tier of pitcher. This is where having a respected ex-player like Robin comes into play. He knows when it's six of one, a half-dozen of the other (in terms of quality), the locker room benefits by going with the guy with seniority. And my read on the blue-collar, union guy JS is that he'd actually respect that decision MORE than going with the new kid on the block (and maybe that's another tipping factor in the re-signing decision). My thoughts exactly . One thing you didn't mention if Samardzija pitches the opener then it goes R-L-L-R if Quintana opens then its L-R-L-R. But what you said is why I said Q will start the opener.

Breakouts? Quintana, Semien and Sxtlk fav MSaunders
Jose will be the opening day starter. Despite all the talk from Brian Kenney on MLB Network about wins not meaning anything ,the fact that the Sox have sucked and Jose is the King of the No Decision , wins are precisely why he is basically still unknown to many fans. I thought last year was a sort of break out season for him though in reality it was just part of his continued improvement from year to year. That FIP will be hard to top as will the low HR total . Jose will be a little more famous when the Sox win more, Jose gets more wins, and maybe if he gets the ERA under 3. Funny how wins and ERA are still the driving forces behind a pitcher getting the recognition he deserves.

MLB.com White Sox Top 30 Prospects
Dang I was going to pick LaRoche for the HR contest but unfortunately they don't put it up the night before and was working today. . Exciting seeing Hawkins hit. Small sample size but a good year and suddenly he might be a top 100 prospect. That would be killer .

Jim Thome is making big but quiet impact behind the scenes
