QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 12:01 PM) It was...2008 NFC Championship, I believe. 2003 wild card game

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 07:16 AM) When the Giants play the Pats in the playoffs, the game is also known as the Super Bowl. Wow, totally missed that one. On second thought, I think it was the Giants vs. 49ers.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 08:36 PM) I think he's alluding more to vague oral promises that anything explicit... Fair point. I couldn't tell from Ross's explanation which it was, so I thought I'd specifically lay out what I meant.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) Yes it does, and I take back what I said on that clarification at least from my standpoint. But listen, you can't ever expect anyone to do anything they say. I've been supposed to get promoted for 2 years. And I just got a new boss. Guess what that means? No promotion. Management doesn't EVER owe you anything. But you do deserve a paycheck, of course you do. Just don't expect any more then that. There's a disconnect here. If management explicitly promise a raise or more compensation/benefits, etc., in return for some performance, then they DO owe him that. Now, whether the worker should legitimately expect that promise to be fulfilled is something different (and in a practical sense, more important), but that doesn't change whether it's owed.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 05:21 PM) NFL long snapper. That has to be the best job in sports. But a really terrifying job if you screw up a key snap (like that dude on the Giants a few years ago in the playoffs. Against the Pats, I think).

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 12:09 PM) Agreed. I'm in the same boat. It really angers me that Linden and Holder are doing so much illegal s*** too. Even if they eventually find out who the killer is, they've completely f***ed any chance of a case against them. The entire ID card thing made absolutely no sense. Why on earth not just pick it up and say "ah ha!" right there. Stupid. And like they wouldn't have checked the ferry vehicle records on the first day investigating the case? They wouldn't have noticed that the campaign car had gone to the casino, signed by Gwen? And what's worse, they've been to the casino before, so they've known about the whole "sign in/sign out" thing for weeks. They just now conveniently thought, hey, lets check to see if that car came on the ferry. Asinine. Same. The entire way they handled the key card was terrible.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) Crean is pushing full class loads and summer courses on the athletes that can handle it, which is a good idea since he'll be oversigning so much. Peegs is interviewing about 5 prospects a week it seems that have visited IU and it seems Oladipo is just on another level, along with Zeller (also heard great things about Sheehey). Couple top 20 prospects in 2013 and 2014 scrimmaged with the team and said there's just no way Vic and Cody will be back in 2013. Couple that with 5-6 NBA scouts that have made it into open gyms saying Oladipo looks like a first rounder, I'm interested to see just how unstoppable this kid has become. The last 6-8 games of the season he was one of the best players in the country at getting to the rim. I went back and watched the UK game in the NCAA tournament... He drove 9 times, and scored 7 times on Miller/Gilchrist and Davis. Should be a great, great year. If Oladipo can add even a decent outside shot (say, ~35-38% from 3-point) I have no doubt he'll be a first rounder, barring injury (which I always worry about with him given how he plays).

Finally caught up on the past two episodes of the Killing before Sunday's finale.

I'm not sure how much national coverage this gets (my guess is "some" for now but will increase to a "metric s***-ton" by the time the vote rolls around), but Minnesota has a proposed amendment that would ban gay marriage. I've seen a few law firms say they're against it, but now General Mills is coming out against it too.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) Which is why I so clearly remember the Indiana thing, they were pitching 5th year free and my family was wondering what type of disaster would have to occur for me to stay 5. I never heard of that when I was at IU. In fact, it would have been the opposite for me, since the scholarship I got when I started was only food for 4 years of undergrad; after that I would have been on my own

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) Are there any actual IU grads on here? How do you feel about those players graduating in ALOT less time than you did? I know there's at least Balta and I; not sure who else. There used to be someone who posted here (like 5+ years ago) by the name of "redandwhite" that I think went there. I graduated in the typical four years with two majors (technically it was a "dual degree" since one of my majors was within the Kelley School of Business and the other was within the College of Arts and Sciences) and one minor. I also entered with 16 credits (I think I got 6 from AP tests, and 10 from the entrance language exams for Spanish). I also took 1 class (at a community college near my parents' house; the credit transferred but the grade did not) each of my first two summers in college. As others have noted, I don't really care, since they take a lot of summer classes, and usually only have 1 major. Put another way, it's definitely something anyone could do if they were ok with taking a lot of classes during the summers and taking as few credits as possible (ie, fewer majors/minors).

Gay Republican presidential candidate Fred Karger Gets a rough relcome in southern Utah New Trier grad, apparently.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 05:27 AM) Speaking of the seizures, has anyone ever used mederma to remove a scar? One of the seizures happened when I was in a parking lot and my face decided to fight the ground (hint: I lost), so I have a nasty scar on my chin and would like it gone. Banging your chin to the ground is the worst. f***ing painful.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 08:31 AM) Wow...I've never heard of a response that quick! Good luck and keep us posted, HH. Yeah, that's unbelievable. Good luck!

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 01:32 PM) See, this is where I agree with Badger. This is the kids' problem...students go and get these majors and then they come out and expect to go stand in the line where the other Poli Sci majors are at and wait for their job to be handed to them. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) I know it doesn't apply to all careers, but at least in the field I'm in, I firmly believe there's a huge advantage to a "classical" education, in terms of actually starting to understand how to think and react to opinions, arguments, data, etc. These two both somewhat speak to my line of thinking on a typical liberal arts major (history, poli sci, english, etc.) -- by all means go get one if that's your pleasure, but either A)Do it as a second major, and have your first major be something that will actually help you land a job out of undergrad (engineering or business, most likely) or B)Have it as your primary major if you can make damn sure that you want to be an academic, and this is just the first stop on the trail to your Ph.D; however, you should only take option B if you honestly know you have the intelligence and work ethic to do it (and I mean more than above average intelligence for say a Big Ten student; you should be a top student), and know that there's a possibility that even if you could successfully completely your Ph.D and become a professor down the line, there may be a point where that's not what you want anymore and you'd be screwed. It's a little different for hard science majors, since they can either go into academia OR industry. Balta can obviously speak way more to this, but I'm guessing that he got a BS in Geology (maybe Physics, too? Not sure what else you would have majored in at IU, except Math or [bio]Chemistry), and then decided to go to grad school. Balta, is it common for people in the hard sciences (excluding engineering) to go into industry after undergrad, or do they need a masters/Ph.D? QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 02:50 PM) fixed I'm betting you can find "good dank ass weed" in any college town. Plus, shouldn't you be extolling Oxford's finest greenery instead of Madison?! QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) This is one f***ed up thread. Yes, yes it is.

This is all very unsurprising. I just want to know if "Chicago" having the best groupies means both the Sox and Cubs, or just one of the two.

Today, I bought "Tim"* on vinyl at the record store the Replacements hung out at and their manager owned. Awesome. *They were out of Let it Be or else I would have gotten that. Tim's my second favorite though. It's their first major label album, and I think the commercial reception was only lukewarm. It's got some great songs on it -- Waitress in the Sky, Swingin Party, Bastards of Young, Left of the Dial, Here Comes a Regular. Also, the Justin Pierre (Motion City Soundtrack) cover of Here Comes a Regular is pretty decent.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 09:37 PM) I think I'm the only person in the world that has Pablo Honey > The rest of their catalog. Haha probably. I don't hate on Pablo Honey as much as most people, but The Bends is definitely my favorite album. It's an absolutely fantastic record.

So is potato bread just "not bad" for you, or is it actually healthy/good for you? Or is it the dreaded third option, "bad for you?"

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) It was just a reply to a post that decided to ridicule veganism for no real reason. More power to anyone who wants to eat whatever, but I think male vegans still have penises. Whoa, let's not be radical. Only the ones who haven't had gender reassignment surgery, duh.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) Cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, prostate cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer - ok, we'll just go 'cancer', obesity, diabetes, cataracts, arthritis, bad skin, man boobs, etc. That's the answer you were looking for, right? Not denying that being a vegan (or vegetarian; I'm not sure of their comparative health effects) is probably healthier than eating a ton of (especially red) meat, but this seems like it could be misleading. I'm guessing the lack of these things has more to do with a general healthier lifestyle, or at least the lack of bad non-meat foods (candy, trans fats, fried foods in general, etc.) than it does with just not eating animal products. But I also only read this one post in the conversation, so maybe I'm way off base and look like a fool now. EDIT: Read it all now. Less of a fool than I thought I'd be.
