  1. QUOTE (Tex @ May 27, 2012 -> 06:02 PM) I thought the ride alongs were over. I am thinking of the quotes about him always calling over every little thing he saw. I guess my impressions are off from the facts. Damn liberal media. Well, since the recording of the meeting at which he described the ride along is from January 2011, they could still have been over for a while.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 27, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) Strangest headline I've seen in a while: Naked Man Allegedly Eating Victim's Face Shot And Killed By Miami Police What in the hell.
  3. Nick Fairley is moving up in the world: from weed possession to DUI!
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) I hate this one...I always used to tip on a delivery, then everyone instituted "Delivery fees". Now I feel guilty if I don't tip, but I also feel like I'm already playing the **** tip because of the mandatory delivery fee. I can think of one place around here (and I'm guessing it's way more common and I just haven't noticed it) when you order delivery they explicitly tell you that a delivery fee does not go to the driver and they can/should still be tipped. I see what you're saying, though.
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 27, 2012 -> 10:29 AM) Working for a non-us company and at month end = working. So does this mean you get random days off that are holidays in that company's home country?
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 27, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) If by it, you mean allowing them to have miniature horse races in my back yard, then I agree. That's exactly what I was referring to, it's more than a little upsetting they have to be held underground right now.
  7. Nothing, nothing and more nothing. At some point in between all that I'll try to squeeze in some reading for my summer class that starts Wednesday.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2012 -> 02:01 PM) Do you also become a cheap bastard if the service ignores you? Because that's what the fight with my brother was about. Tipping a penny once to literally the worst service I've ever gotten (and will likely ever have) >>>>>> tipping fantastically the rest of the time. No, on that one I'd probably side with your brother, but for different reasons. I don't care if it's so they won't think young-20 somethings are terrible tippers, but I'll leave about 10-15% because it's still part of their pay, since after taxes they get nothing from their paychecks. I get what others say about waitstaff being entitled to a tip, but for me, I'm pretty sure a waiter would have to legitimately harass me for me to not leave them anything.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2012 -> 01:19 AM) I always tip 20% at least, generally round up to 25%, and I'll go higher depending on service and bill (if it's a small bill at say, Steak & Shake, but the server was great, I've left a 50% and even a 100% tip once, but that was great service on a small bill). Ha, I see we have almost identical tipping philosophies. As for bartenders, I'm with Badger on this. I tip every time, at least with places I go frequently.
  10. QUOTE (buckweaver @ May 26, 2012 -> 07:04 AM) Typically "Soxtalky" smarmy quote. Not that everyone is supposed to be farting rainbows and crapping moon pies, but what's the point of putting this into THIS discussion? I almost never post in PHT, but sure why not. The point of putting this into THIS discussion was to signal that maybe if that's the best you can say for why the farm system isn't barren, then maybe it actually IS barren. To not point that out would be, as you say, "farting rainbows." Now, I agree with SS2k5 that Sale is a great product of the system, and I've never been as down on our system as some people have, because it's been consistently good at pumping out role players like this. But the problem is when you're ONLY pumping at role players. Sale looks to be bucking that trend, but he wasn't mentioned in the original post. EDIT: I guess you could say the OP intended to include Sale among the "young pitching" comment, but my first post was referring only to the three mentioned in the title.
  11. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 26, 2012 -> 12:54 AM) For a supposedly barren farm system, this club has promoted some seriously talented young pitching lately. Well, if the best your farm system can offer is a couple of relievers and a pitcher who's made one decent start and one good relief appearance, then yeah that sounds pretty barren. That said, I like Reed a lot and I could Jones being similar to Jesse Crain.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 25, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) Also, I think the idea that the bartenders get tipped out is terrible. The bartenders already get tips from their customers at the bar, and then now they also get tips for something they had no hand in controlling? Awful. Except for, you know, all the drinks they made that night that the waitstaff brought out. I'm not saying their contribution was as substantial as the waiters/bussers, but it's there.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 25, 2012 -> 11:38 PM) #humblebrag Oh come on, he just got a job coaching at his old high school, that's pretty cool. Let him live a little.
  14. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 24, 2012 -> 12:51 AM) Made Apple Pie tonight. Accidentally kept the heat too high while the cinnamon sticks cooked though, so a ton of the liquid evaporated. Left me with one mildy strong pot, and one very strong pot. I plan on combining the two tomorrow and adding some more apple juice to calm it down a bit. Lesson learned, next time do not cook it that hot for that long. Also, decided to go with a whole bottle of Vodka this time (whipped, to add to the "apple pie" theme), instead of half a bottle of Vodka and half a bottle of Jim Beam. Saved on cost, and still tastes delicious. Gotta make Apple Pie with Everclear, man. It's like when I tried to make Bullfrog with citrus vodka instead of the Everclear. Just doesn't work.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 26, 2012 -> 12:02 AM) Defensive metrics are stupid. If you tell me Ramirez and Rios are bad defenders. I'm probably going to laugh at you while I watch you wipe my snot off of your chest. Ramirez is a gold glover. Rios is just an idiot defensively. Way too many dumb plays, usually as a result of being way too lazy.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 25, 2012 -> 11:21 PM) She rammed a pole, blew, and was put in handcuffs. A few hours later she was arrested for DUI. Well done.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 25, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) Not really seeing this as buster-worthy, so i am moving it to SLaM Famous last words!
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 24, 2012 -> 11:33 PM) Wrist watches will be my ultimate downfall in life. Like women with purses, I want to buy a new watch every day. I'm the complete opposite. I've never had much of a desire to wear a watch, either for fashion or time-keeping purposes.
  19. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 24, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) More sheeple evidence. You know who are sheeple? REPUBLICANS! Wanna know how? SHEEPLE sounds like STEEPLE which makes me think of CHURCHES which make me think of REPUBLICANS.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) Watched the latest "The Killing" episode. I have no idea why I'm watching it anymore, but I am. I f***ing hate that show, but I'll keep watching like an idiot. Same.
  21. This is in the 1962 Harvard Alumni Report. I particularly like the "awards" section.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) True, he could have one this year as well. I've heard everything from northwestern to kentucky, lately its been MSU. Who the f*** knows with this kid. The downside is that his coach is a huge mentor for him and he seems to have his hand out to big time programs to advance his career. Well, at least Northwestern would finally get in the tournament.
  23. I'm liking the off of Gaslight Anthem's upcoming record.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 23, 2012 -> 03:13 PM) --Yellow River State Forest in... Iowa. Yes, Iowa. NE corner of the state, a little NW of Galena, IL. It is in the "driftless area", much like Mississippi Palisades State Park (also recommended), has amazingly good scenery, creeks with trout in them, virtually unused hiking trails. My favorite hidden gem in the Midwest. About 3 hours' drive from the Chicago area. Wow, you make this place sound awesome. Only 3.5 hours from Minneapolis. Researching it, I also found a place in southeastern Minnesota called Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park along the Root River that looks pretty neat. I should take some trips down there.
