White Sox vs Red Sox - 8/12/05

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) You calling my sig larbage or something? He means your avatar, and I, too, laugh each and every time I see it. It has to be one of the best avatars around, not to mention one of the single funniest moments of the fourth season. Anyone else want to see Boomer get bounced out in the second inning? 1.2 IP 6ER would look mighty nice tonight. -
Race to photoshop Shingo in a Mets hat... Ready.... Set..... Go....

C'mon. You are really doing this right now? Really? C'mon.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) The good news is that it's been said that NYY$, STL, HOU were the 3 teams on KGJ's short-list. It's obvious now he's added the White Sox to that list. He's never said anything about CLE, ANA, BOS, or BAL. CLE still requires a family move so I don't think it's proximity to CIN will have any bearing on his decision. Though Cashman said the NNY$ would not put in a claim you can't rule out a trade. They would need to involve a 3rd team because they can't contend with the White Sox talent pool. As for his home in Orlando you can't rule out ATL, HOU, or STL. ATL & HOU in particular play ST games in Orlando. Could you imagine if this is the first real season the Yankees suffer from depleting their farm system to a steaming pile? The Sox are reaping all the benefits.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) I'm still leary of the Levine report because it's been continuously reported that ML personnel are under strict rules not to reveal such information, but if it's true then you can expect KGJ to clear waivers w/out the White Sox putting in a claim. If a team puts in a claim for KGJ they are on the hook for the $49M. They can't revoke their claim. The Reds can revoke their request ONCE if they don't like the trade. If they do that KGJ can't be traded before Sep 1st & can't appear on a post-season roster. So it makes no sense for the White Sox to claim him off ML waivers. Assuming he clears it's then a question of best offer. The White Sox were hitting much better at the time of the trade than they are now. With BOS & MIN coming up don't expect much to change offensively. I think that gives the Reds greater strength in the deal now. My guess is to make things easier on both clubs the Reds will pick up all of what they owe Griffey in 2005. That drops the 3 yr cost to the White Sox down to $22M. In addition I see them picking up the largest deferred payment ($16.5M) owed in 2024. That drops the White Sox deferred payment cost to $13.5M/08-2023. At 4% interest compounded annually over a declining principal it's probably worth no more than $16M/08-2023. Well done, Juggs. See, you can put those numbers to good use every once and awhile. It's in plain english and very easy to understand...well done.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) He said alot of different things in the interview. I heard alot of it in the pre-game yesterday. Alot of different snippets could be construed alot of different ways. Levine did say for sure that "He is on the waiver wire for anyone who wants to get him" I suppose the next thought in his head was, "Please let the Cubs get him, Please let the Cubs get him...." My point exactly. In fact, if you listen closely enough, you can actually hear Levine preface the interview by saying, "I know your a member of the Reds now, but..."

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) "I enjoy being in Chicago," Griffey told WMVP-AM 1000 during the Reds' visit to Chicago this week to play the Cubs. "My family comes here a lot. I do have control. The Reds and Chicago have to make a deal." From the man's mouth. Anyone ready to get their hopes up again only to see this thing not happen? Bruce asked Griffey about that rumor that Ken wouldn't waive his no-trade clause to come to Chicago and Griffey said that he has nothing against Chicago...ya know? His family likes it here, but, right now I'm a Red. You know that I'm with the Reds right now and we are trying to win some ballgames...yadda, yadda, yadda. Believe me, this isn't earth-shattering. This writer was simply stirring the pot for a story. The interview was actually really innocent and brief.

Not to play armchair GM here, but I think a deal surrounding Josh Fields would better suit both clubs. I mean, would anyone bat an eyelash if Fields was traded instead of Young? Yes, Young is considered the better prospect at this point--justifiably so--but, do the Reds really need another OF prospect? No. Now, I haven't taken a look at their IF prospects--Encar. is a going to be a star--but, you would have to think they'd at least take a long, hard look at Fields. If the Sox can manage to grab Ken Freaking Griffey Jr. without deadling Chris Young, Kenny wins GM of the year without question...as if he hasn't already. For what it's worth, don't put too much stock into those Griffey quotes. Bruce Levine really put him on the spot and asked him loaded questions. What was the guy supposed to say? "No, sorry, I don't like your crummy town." Naturally, this is all moot.

Talk about sending the lamb to the slaughter. I'll never forget that Cotts' start in New York. You can point to that one, single game as an event that stunted Neal's growth for an additional year and a half.

My question is a little more elementary: How in the bleeding hell do you get black text? As in Willie's Magic number black text.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) My buddy who is a serious Cub fan was at a Cub game one time when Bullinger was getting lit up. He was screaming at him, telling him how much he sucked and so forth. Well, Bullinger finally gets yanked and the people in the row behind him stand up and start clapping saying we love you, Jim. It turns out he was sitting right in front of his family. Great baseball story. That must be a barstool staple.

QUOTE(DePloderer @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) How about this? Perfect. Thanks again!

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) If you want to put the "N" back in BandVangon, it would be perfect. Thanks.

Very funny guy. Happy Birthday!

Gotta ask, Mike: how long does it take you to get to work everyday?

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) umm.....alright. The same could be said of your handle. You went Hollywood on us, S to the B. Reserve your seat now, it'll be a hot commodity

QUOTE(DePloderer @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) How about this? Possibly not exactly what you had in mind, but what do you think? Great work. I'll put it in the hopper. I think you'll see the Van make its maiden voyage around the second of October. All aboard, cause once we start, we won't be stopping. If you can throw a little avatar up there using this picture it would be the cherry on top.
-
Fair warning: you guys are setting yourselves up for a serious let down. Griffey will not be a member of the Chicago White Sox this season. I'm sorry, it just ain't happening.
-
QUOTE(DePloderer @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) Can you come up with any better pics? If so I'd have a go. I could try. If you want to just search, A-team Van, you may be able to find one you'd like.

Congrats on the successful internship! I'll be looking next summer for one and I hope to have the same expierence you've had.

Just thought of something the other day and was wondering if you graphics Wiz(s) could lend a hand. Below, I'll post a few picture that I'm thinking of using for an avatar or sig...try both if you wish. It's called: "The Addison-Team BandVangon" If you could put that slogan somewhere on any or all of these pictures that would be great. I'm thinking that very crisp and clean font/look would probably look best. Enjoy.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) Jim reminded me this morning that at Sox fest I told Kenny in the Q&A that this team "had me excited" and that I felt this was "our year". I honestly don't remember what I said, other then getting busted for -> "There'll be no finger wagging this year..."

This was the series to convince you? If anything, I left this series questioning the Sox offense more than ever before.
