  1. He is really old so I don't know if the juice comments are completely fair but I do agree that he ends up in SD where he played before. He knows he gets the job while Loretta is out but I guess the Twins make some sense since he could start for them the rest of the year.
  2. Arbitration rules dictate that you can't get too much right? If he was at 3.4 million this year, I am pretty sure he can't get over $7 next year although I don't know exactly how it works. A guy that young would command 4 years, 50 million from the Yankees or Sawx so I would just as soon pay him in arbitration unless he'll give you a discount for signing him now (3 yr-25)
  3. I am aware of guaranteed contracts. Really I am. If you think that the Yankees will trade him ot an AL contender then you are insane. Like I said, NL-maybe. But they won't help the Orioles, White Sox, etc. intentionally. If they can send him to Florida they will.
  4. I think you are wrong abotu the Yankees trading him for a prospect. THey will just let him go for nothing. They won't pay for him to pitch for a rival. Maybe if it were an NL team, but I bet it will be AL teams interested.
  5. I bet he gets darn near Richie Sexson money, not quite though. We better not be paying him 14 million a year when he is 34. He is not a very good athlete so its not hard to imagine a big decline at 31-32. Overbay will be a tough get though. THe BRewers won't take prospects for him, just big league talent.
  6. I have long though Stanton would look good in our uniform. You really don't let him face a righty though. The thing is, he makes so much money that we can't get him for ten days. I wonder if a richer contender (Baltimore?) would think about biting the bullet on the contract during waivers. Sore biceps scare me (Brad Penny and Cris Carpenter 2004).
  7. He was good. But, you do KNOW that I-Rod flyout was long gone at home right? Still, you pitch to the park and he used it pretty effectively on the whole.
  8. I almost wonder if a guy like Gary Sheffield might be someone that Kenny sits around and wonders about for a few minutes a week.
  9. I realize that Everett does NEED to play the OF once in awhile to get bats in but I wouldn't have picked spacious Comerica as that place. Sounds like a potential nightmare out there.
  10. I worry about doubles and triples with the gaps but this team doesn't seem like a patient one so I think they might help him get in a groov eearly if they don't hit him right away. I anticipate 5.1/3 3 er, 1 bb, 8 hits, 4 K's for a no-decision but a game we win in the end. I thought I recall a good Jason Johnson game against us last year. Could be wrong.
  11. Getting rid of Sheffield, an elite bat, doesn't make their defense even decent. Sure they would get better there but not by a huge amount. They'd still havve Tony Womack in the OF without another move. I think that Corey Patterson makes more sense than Cameron because Cameron whiffs without walking like Patterson but he also gets hurt.
  12. Yeah I think someone will at least give Brooks a thought. I saw Powell was not on that list. Was Hassan Adams a senior? DId he simply go undrafted or did he go back to AZ? He's a nice player
  13. I don't get this trade. You then have Cameron in Center, Matsui in right? and Womack STILL in left with Cairo and Cano clogging up 2b. IF they did this trade maybe they would trade cano and prospects for Kotsay and then have LF-Hideki CF-Kotsay RF-Cameron (he'd rather play center) 3B-Rod SS-Jeter 2B-Cairo 1b-Black Hole C-Posada. I know they need a real CF and that Womack can't stay in left but I'm not sure this helps them that much. It's a big defensive upgrade but the bats get weaker and I'm not sure that Cano and co. can land Kotsay anyways.
  14. QUOTE(Carlo Paz @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) Ah, I understand. He's not being advertised as "good", just a bit better than the rest of the s***e at the position. Got it. Let's hope the AL team doesn't get any runners in scoring position with less than two out and Paulie at bat.
  15. I'm not one to always rip the national media but clearl espn is the best example in the world of a necessary evil.
  16. Usually I say where there is smoke there is fire but this is NY so it is different. The Sheff-Dubois rumor sounded ludicrous and so does this one. I'd love to make it if I were the Mets. THe Yankees lineup would take a big downgrade but I guess they could use the D help, but it still wouldn'tbe worth it to me. I don't buy it either.
  17. You can't tell me Cliff Politte is our 8th inning guy. You can tell me that he sometimes pitches that inning or that he should be our guy in that spot but he isn't in that role constantly like a Tom Gordon of a year ago. Not saying its the wrong way to use him, but you won't make the all-star team by being shuffled through the 6-7-8 innings.
  18. Steff is right. Willie wasn't there for free. He was there because he was obligated to appear by his employers most likely, or he was paid by Taste organizers. Either way, don't feel too sorry for him.
  19. I saw B-Mac sign for a young kid during his windsprints on Wednesday before the game. He could have pretended not to hear the kid in the bleachers but he went out of his way. Nice move, glad he's around
  20. THey bailed out Jason Schmidt though by free swinging. Maybe they will do B-Mac a similar favor.
  21. Frank was better than Albert but that doesn't mean only one of them is a HOF'er. They both should be. I wonde rif Albert might someday be posthumously when people look at his numbers and not antecdotes about his personality, true or untrue.
  22. This is very important to remember: guys like Ed Farmer, Rooney and Joe Buck are NOT journalists and usually admit as much. They are club employees. This doesn't make them lesser guys but it should somewhat change expectations.
  23. Lidge doesn't just miss bats, he misses great bats. He could blow away A-rod and Sheffield. I'd mortgage the farm for him.
  24. If trading Joe Crede crushes this team then we don't have the mental toughness to win in the playoffs anyways.
  25. Well Randy Johnson was phenomenal for the Astros and sometiems you have to take a shot at the World Series, and coming up short doesn't necessarily mean you were wrong for trying.
