Freddy's career numbers against Oakland are not very inspiring.

Yeah the Rowand play was perplexing. He pulled up lik he thought it was going to carom off the wall but it landed at the base of it and looked like it may have been pretty catchable. Just one of those goofy terrible days I guess. With the sun as bad as it was today, I was surprised we didn't have big drops on either side. I think the most disappointing thing about this series isnj't losing three games but losing when you have near sellout/sellout crowds. You'd like to keep the paying customer very happy by winning so he'll come back real soon. Sort of a wasted opprtunity for goodwill with the Flubs out of town.

who was the former outfielder Hawk was rippign today? He said 4-5 years ago. Was it Liefer?

I didn't see enough of the series to say much but what was with having Willie pinch run for Carl, AFTER you had Carl bunted over to second. If you want to pinch run, do it right away. Maybe we could have had Willie steal and then get sacrificed over to have one out and a man on third. Kind of a brain cramp there in my opinion.

2005 All-Star "Futures" Game Thread

I remember being excited to watch Rickie Weeks for a month last year and then he came into the game late and popped up on the first pitch I believe. Oh well -

Anyone know the starting pitchers? I was guessing Verlander and either Volquez or Petit. -

Definitely missing the Sox game as this is one of the better events of the summer to me. However, it does lack the "star power" of the last few years. At least we might get a longer look at Delmon Young and a few others than the last few years. Never seen Chris Young so that's kind of interesting. THis game has been hit a bit by call-ups and the fact that the world team is a bit less loaded than normal. Still, superb event. -
Was today a tradebait lineup?
Punch and Judy Garland replied to drowninginflame's topic in Pale Hose Talk
yes I expect more out of a fifth outfielder. It's ok to struggle that badly if you are a young player with upside but Timo is not young. I'd rather see Borch out there. -

that ops is as a corner outfielder where it needs to be higher though. -
he's mildly better than Rowand in center.

If Wilson won't go to the first place Nats, then he's a turd

Don't even friggin start with the timo s***. DId he go 3-4? Yes. Was he thrown out easily at second and did he badly misplay a ball in left by diving when he had no chanc eto catch it? Also yes. Timo blows. Get over it. -
QUOTE(Balance @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) Each season, no matter what you do, you're gonna win 60 and you're gonna lose 60. It's what you do with the other 42 that makes the difference. Those 2 losses in that soulless arena were in the "you're gonna lose 60" group. No offense but that quote doesn't seem terribly original.

he's really young, just remember that when judgin his comments

Suttcliffe's might be. I saw the headset pull up a bald spot in the back once. Maybe just a funny combover but I bet its a rug

Well POds getting in won't be the main story nationwide. It will play out with the whole "How can Kenny Rogers make the all-star team and Derek Jeter miss it". Not Scotty's fault but that's probably how it will go.

I called Contreras shaky. Yes Schmidt has been shaky this year for a big part of it, there is no question about it. Jason's track record is much better as he was better than Loaiza and Halladay in 03 but he clearly isn't that pitcher this year and health is the obvious reason why. Scmidt being shaky doesn't mean Contreras isn't, which makes the point of your post rather muddled.

After looking at that picture, I'd rather go home for three days than play in some exhibition game
-
Contreras wasn't THAT good last night. He left a lot of pitches over the plate that the Rays failed to do things with. A better team would have parked 2-3 more balls. His command was mildly better but it was a shaky performance.

It's been a push at best for us. When you consider the money, its probably been a move we could want to take back. That JC money might have landed a Matt Morris or Odalis Perez (nicked up) who are better than Jose or we could have resigned Loaiza for less money than we are paying Jose. Still, its not been a brutal move or anything. My suspicions are that if we didn't make the trade, Esteban would have been bad enough to where we would have run him out of town and he wouldn't be here anyways.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!
Punch and Judy Garland replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I always hoped Frank and Bags would end wit the same number of homers. Kind of neat synergy being born on the same day and all. Frank is our most important offensive player and proved that AGAIN tonight -
I am in favor of it, that is trading our top 3-4 guys, but I feel that the Astros would ask for Garland or Garcia which would obviously be a no-deal. Getting Clemens would be gigantic. Perhaps Contreras would be sent back in return to somewhat balance salaries.
