QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:24 PM) Agreed 100% Tony, you get it. By definition, any time you don't win the world series, the season was a failure. Failed to win the world series, the only goal any organization should have. Again, not realistic for every team every season, but that doesn't mean you should lower expectations and be happy with division championships or just making the playoffs. What does history have to do with this Rays season, or any season in general? Absolutely, positively nothing. Who cares that the Rays were a laughingstock for a long time? It's completely irrelevant. They won the tough AL East. They are a very good, legit team. Their goal and expectation should be to win the world series, and anything less than that is a disappointment. Wow, I really disagree with your opinion and many people on this board must also because I don't see many other calling this White Sox season a failure. The general consensus seems to be the opposite with 4 threads started tonight thanking the Sox and talking positively about this season. Do you also really believe that history has no relevence either? After watching the Sox win in 2005? Did you see how much it meant to the fans, players, coaches, owners, former players, and anybody else who is associated with or associates themselves with the White Sox? Grown men were in tears when they finally won it. Throw the Red Sox and Cubs in there too. Do you think history really meant nothing when Boston finally won it? Or each year when the Cubs fail to?

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) I suppose it depends on what their goal was to start the year. If I'm a Rays fan however, and their goal isn't to win the World Series, I am dissapointed in my team. Ask Williams what the goal was this season, and if expectations were met. I am not trying to argue with you or change your mind, but when your highest finish ever is 4th place and you have only achieved that once and you make the playoffs for the first time in the history of your existence, and you win your first playoff series ever, to consider that season a failure if you don't win it all is pretty harsh, IMO.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) I'm torn on how to feel right now. I have been at the Cell the last 4 games, and it has been exhausting. There is a part of me that will call this season a failure, as any season without a title is a failure, but big picture, it was a very productive year that hopefully is the opening of a new "window" of White Sox Baseball. This is also my favorite time of year on the board, the dog days of winter with new rumors coming out daily, and terrible trade proposals by the hour. So if the Rays don't win the World Series, you will consider their season a failure?

I am sad now because our season is over, but I am not disappointed in the team. They exceeded EVERYBODY'S expectations and made the end of the season interesting and exciting. We have some really nice looking young players that we had no idea about a year ago. We also have some holes to fill and decisions to make. This could be a very interesting offseason, depending on what KW decides to do. 2009 should look much more promising than 2008 did a year ago. Thank you for 2008 White Sox.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 08:06 PM) Anyone familiar with Olivia Munn? She has been my "new" crush for a while now. I had never heard of her, but a quick search led me to discover a wonderful web site: http://www.chickipedia.com/

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) Lineup tonight: Cabrera ss Swisher lf Dye rf Konerko 1b Thome dh Ramirez 2b Pierzynski c Uribe 2b Anderson cf I guess with Kazmir, you need the righties although Swish sucks a righty. Hopefully his patience at the plate gives us a couple walks. DYE/Konerko hit Kazmir hard. I like it. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 11:12 PM) Excellent column in my opinion by Couch. Have to nod my head in agreement here. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/couch/11994...g100308.article I have to disagree with his comment that the joy surrounding this team, beating three teams in three thrilling days to get here, is gone. I mean yeah, we lost game one, but that's still better than sitting at home. -

Was Richar injured this year? Is there any chance he's the 2B next season? -
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) Remember the baserunning play he made at 2nd during our regular series there? I don't blame them on booing him. There are a couple other teams as well. The rest of the league are just followers who have no reason. Please refresh my memory.

Any Hold Steady fans know the name of the 2nd to last song on Stay Positive? It starts out, "If she asks, don't tell her that I'm living hand to mouth" and ends each verse with some kind of drug reference. That song and the last one are not listed on the album.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 09:01 AM) 1) Who would be interested in Vazquez, assuming we basically give him away to the top bidder? 2) If we let Uribe go, is Getz then our "supersub" or do we find another player through trade or FA? Bring Ozuna back? Find another Cuban, lol? 3) Is there serious consideration being given to either Anderson or Fields ever being regular players for the Sox again? 4) Would we really want Garland back? Would he even want to come back? 5) Would anyone be interested in signing Freddy Garcia again...if his contract was almost 100% incentives-based? 6) What if Cabrera is offered arbitration and accepts it? What then, lol? It will be like Kiffin and Al Davis! Doubt that happens, though. 7) Who's the starting 3B if you shed Uribe and sign Hudson and a pitcher? 8) Where do you put Ramirez next year? SS seems the most logical, since it's easier to find a 2B more cheaply and his offensive potential is a huge net plus coming from that position. I am just trying to enjoy the fact that the Sox are still playing baseball. There will be several months to worry about all that other stuff soon enough. -
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Let's be honest here, or lie if you would like, but this board would be up in arms had we had to travel to the horrorf***dome, and lost per usual, no doubt about it. Of course some people here would flip out over that, because some people here flip out over every little thing.

Solution: Start Javy or Richard, let him go 4 innings only, bring in the other for 4 innings.
