  1. Does anybody remember the scenario of the suspended game that they will be finishing in Baltimore?
  2. If any of you have been in Carbondale this summer, you may have heard of Rosie Gordon. She is a 4 year old girl who was attacked by an American Bulldog this June. Rosie is recovering in a St. Louis hospital after suffering severe facial wounds in a dog attack in Carbondale this June. Surgeons have completed a first round of procedures to repair her chin and mouth, but much more work lies in Rosie's future. More facial reconstruction and physical and speech therapies are among the plans doctors have for the girl. There will be a benefit show to help raise money for Rosie's medical bills at Hangar 9 this Saturday from 3 pm. until close. ROCK OUT FOR ROSIE--click on "this weeks issue" and then "music" for more info. Rosie's mom is an old friend of mine and my band Jackhead is happy to be helping out by playing this show. Bands performing include: Blue Afternoon Carter and Connelley Natives MoJoDeans and Friends Roger Pugh and the DNA Vibrators Moonbuggy Kids Jackhead Donations are also being accepted at REACH OUT TO ROSIE If you live in or near Carbondale, come on out Saturday night to hear some music and support a good cause. $5 will get you in after 8pm, or $15 before 8 includes a buffet catered by Hunan.
  3. I do not understand the posters who say that this team can make the playoffs, but cannot make a post season run. This is baseball, any team can beat any other team on any given night. Would you feel better if we had Jeff Weaver, Anthony Reyes and Jeff Suppan in our rotation? Because that team won a World Series less than 2 years ago.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 12:40 AM) A song by Mos Def has that same line. Oh well... Well then maybe, hopefully, that is the song he is speaking of.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 12:38 AM) Some Mos Def song, right? WIN! Barf Brooks
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 12:31 AM) I meant Gavin and I have no idea why I put Havy. "3:30 in the morning, not a soul in sight" is a lyric from one of the greatest songs of all time. You make me want to puke.
  7. I figured that was kind of the idea in getting Griffey, it lets Thome, Konerko, and Griffey all get regualar rest down the stretch.

  9. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 07:57 PM) Yeah, but I meant how many he's accumulated thus far, and roughly how many games left to play would clinch it (if he hasn't already, I don't know). Well, you could look it up, you have internet access don't you?
  10. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) Anyone know the numbers currently for Thome's option to vest? I.E. his plate appearances thus far, what he needs, and projection on games to be played. 1100 PA in 2007+2008 according to this.
  11. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) CQ will save us. I promise. How?
  12. Damn, I just saw Jeff Tweedy is throwing out the first pitch at Wrigley and Wilco is singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame. I am a big fan, but this knocks them down a few notches in my book.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) Keeping Griffey over Thome would be a bad idea. Thome is 37 and would cost us 13 mil, while Griffey is 38 and would cost us 16.5 mil. And there is no way Griffey has a better year than Thome. Wouldn't Philly pay half or so of Thome's contract?
  14. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 12:58 AM) I cannot remember being so anxious for and then so disapointed in a new record like I was for the last Portishead release. That record is absolute garbage. I'll take it off your hands.
  15. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:06 AM) ESPN reporting the Griffey camp has no idea why the white sox want him and concerned about where he would play. What's his screen name?
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:46 AM) I'm lame. I got all my guys amazon gift cards in addition to the ties they will be wearing at the wedding. The guys I have standing up are from all walks of life so it would be impossible to find something that they'd all enjoy. That's actually a good idea because they will use them. I've been in several weddings and most of the G'men gifts are junk that you feel guilty throwing away. The things that have come in most useful: a nice beer stein, a flask, and thats all I can think of.
  17. What the hell? I got got here, is anything for sure yet???
  18. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) Anyone checked out the new Hold Steady album? Yeah, I got it. Haven't got to really sit and listen to it yet, but it seems pretty solid after a few times.
  19. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 11:49 PM) Ozzies comments do make sense. But you gotta admit that the team looked a hell of a lot better without Konerko. We looked like a real baseball team. We played defense and were faster on the basepaths. Runners were advancing and we were winning. That is important. We were 13-7 without paulie and 8-9 since his return. Obviously its time to go back to whatever was working. So what if Swish isn't hitting, for whatever reason that lineup seemed to work. Couldn't have anything to do with the pitching.
  20. Not sure if there is already a discussion about it, but Tim Donaghy got 15 months in prison. Seems like the sentence was a little light to me.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) I was wondering about this myself the other day. I wonder if a LaRussa-like move of putting PK inthe 2nd slot would help. I think it might, but the problem is, in the meantime, you put one of the slowest men in baseball with a struggling bat in the 2nd spot in the order. The team might suffer a lot while Paulie gets things back together. I don't know about batting Paulie 2nd, but he'd be taking AJs place in the lineup, so the speed factor isn't really that big of a deal.
