  1. I wouldn't object to bringing him back if we needed a leadoff hitter as the final piece to realistically compete next year, but there really is no point. I rather have Sweeney, Owens, and Anderson all fight for the job.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) Let me ask you folks this. Everyone here seemed to throw up in despair yesterday and declare the season horribly, horribly lost. Let's imagine this, we do a Fields and Gio for Bedard swap (just accept the principle for a second). We also sign Rowand, blowing $30 million a year on keeping those 2. Does that make us an AL Central contender to your eyes? How much better does that make us that what we have right now, and is it worth that kind of money for those upgrades? If people are so insistent on believing that KW fouled up and we're screwed no matter what this year because the Tigers and Indians are so good, then wasting money locking ourselves in to long term, piecemeal upgrades is not going to solve that problem. I agree, let's not make a move just to make a move. Kenny's plan looked good in principle(hell, it got Buehrle and Dye to resign and Buehrle for below market value), but it didn't work. We can't just trade any halfway decent chip we have left to lock up guys who won't help us win the division.
  3. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) So let's say Crede "builds up his value" by playing 3B. How much more do you think you are going to get for a 2 month rental? Remember he's a boras client and if he does come back strong, then Boras is DEFINITELY going to want to put him on the open market. While I understand what people are saying, I don't think keeping him around is going to get the Sox any more than they would get right now. Unless everyone is intent on getting the draft picks when he leaves, which would be ok, if that's what you want. I rather receive the draft picks.
  4. I think his value would still be higher than it is right now. He's almost rock bottom in terms of value(coming off back surgery). Some team at the deadline would love to have his glove at 3b, and as long as he hits around .270 with 25 homers and 85Rbi's, I think you could actually get a prospect at the deadline that is worth something. Right now, an A prospect that has a chance at being a bench player for Crede is prolly all you'll get.
  5. I rather much have Andruw. In a down year he still had pretty nice power numbers and historically he's just a flat out better player than Rowand.
  6. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) Why? Crede very little value on the trade market. Konerko has substantial value. Fields as well, but Fields is playing for the league minimum the next two years. This way, you move Fields to first, let crede play third and build up his value, and deal Konerko for a much needed piece (Kendrick, anyone?) As for Fields being an "athlete," he isn't athletic enough to play left field, and Joe is far superior defensively at third. I really don't care if Fields is on the field at all, as long as his bat is in the lineup. I agree with everything you said. Trading Crede right now would be selling low.
  7. The payroll needs to be upped for these greater players to be added. This is not the first time we got burned by Detroit. They also took Porcello when we had first crack at him because of our unwillingness to pay over slot and deal with Boras. The Sox are working at a disadvantage from the moment they start planning. They won't overspend for any player whatsoever(can't hang with the big dogs of the AL). Their amateur scouting is terrible (so we can't work as an Oakland), we won't deal with Boras(can't hang with big dogs again), and we won't pay overslot(can't hang with Detroit again). Hell, this team is trying to depend on our "fantastic clubhouse atmosphere" to sign FA's to lesser deals than what they think is fair market which is about 20% short of what the market is actually paying. We can keep waiting for the market to correct itself, or we could actually try to up the payroll. I would say blow it up now, but I'm not confident in Kenny assessing his own players' values.
  8. Amazing Joe Gibbs didn't know about the 10 men on defense thing.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 11:16 AM) Just realized that I'm within one day driving distance... So you're offering an open invitation for all Illini fans at Soxtalk to sleep over on their drive over? Awesome!
  10. What about bringing back Damaso? http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07337/838703-63.stm He'll come pretty cheap.
  11. The money is the only reason most players go and it's the main reason why veteran dunkers no longer go. There's not much you get. As far as Tyrus, I desperately wanted Aldridge(hell, all of my RealGM posts are flooded with McRoberts and LA love). I know though that Tyrus can be more explosive and I think the mindgames that Skiles tries to play with young guys is what screws them up along with his entitlement minutes(See Kirk Hinrich not getting benched but Tyrus does).
  12. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) Well, to clarify, the Angels apparently only want to move Mathis, Kendrick, and Willits. They are balking at including Adenhart. If the Angels would have been willing to include Adenhart, the deal would be done right now. If the Marlins were willing to do that deal without Adenhart, the deal would be done right now. I think the Sox are capable of beating that offer if they'd like. With what exactly?
  13. Well so much for the big fish to fry. KW got owned big time and we are still left with 2 OF spots that need to be taken.
  14. To southsideirish, You do care. I really didn't care because I knew better than what you were reporting. I don't believe anyone without a source. Your source is your brain which has come up with an opinion. You have implied multiple times in this thread and SSI has shown some evidence with that, that Hunter is a Sox and the dinner was cancelled last night and the deal is done without stating "I think". You have implied you are an inside source or have one, probably for some e-cred which in the world, means nothing. Seems to me, you wanted to bask in glory if Hunter did sign between "now" and Monday, but if he signed elsewhere, you would have hid. If he signed later than Monday, I'm going to guess you would've just lie to others and said "little details held up the announcement" or come up with something that is purely your opinion and try to spin it to make it fact.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 05:03 PM) Again, believe what you want to believe. I am telling you that I believe he is already signed and an anouncement will come by Monday, but quite possibly even sooner. My guess it will either be announced tomorrow or Monday. We already have him. My opinion. My speculation. I never claimed anyone told me or I got an inside source, I am just voicing my opinion. How does that lead me with egg on my face? Now if I claimed an inside source, like others on here, and nothing happened, then I would have egg on my face. Now, it is just one person's opinion against anothers. So be it. And the reason why people are upset with you is that you have tried to pass your opinion as fact up until very recently. That would upset me too. Just stop saying "he's signed, announcement tommorow". If it's your opinion, say, "I think the Sox have him locked. I don't see him signing anywhere else now".
  16. I played COD4 today and wow, the graphics alone are greatttttttttt. I loved it way more than Resistance. I also got Rockband, but haven't opened it up yet.
  17. Torii ain't coming. We'll be stuck with Owens. My source is my friend who has a friend who has a hunch.
  18. When did the Sox develop a farm and when did the Steinbrenner's buy the White Sox?
  19. Good thinking we're keeping his older brother Joe.
  20. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Chris Singleton committed to the Noles today. It rounds out one of the best recruiting classes for basketball ever at FSU. (I know FSU was close to #1 in 2003, but I think this class is better). We got: Xavier Gibson 4* PF, 43 overall Chris Singleton 4* SF, 33 overall Deividas Dulkys 4* SG, 65 overall Luke Loucks 4* PG 78 overall Pierre Jordan 3* PG According to Rivals that is the 10th ranked class in the country. Hopefully we can pull in Derwin Kitchen in the Spring signing period. We're going to need guards next year. Von Wafer alone > any of those players. He was just stupid and got really poor advice to leave early.
  21. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) Yuck. That's not something you ever want to hear. Memphis can offer something that UNC won't. Money!!1! Though perhaps that shouldn't be in green.
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 02:03 AM) He's awful in left, he has an excellent arm but at the same time he has the worst instincts I've ever seen, does a little hop when he catches each flyball and has a habit of misplaying most balls hit to him or to either side. A good throwing arm does not a good fielder make. So what if he does a hop? As long as he still catches the ball. He's averaging at fielding the balls, but pretty great at throwing runners out. Hell, Rowand misplays balls but he's thought of as a great defensive CF.
  23. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 12:41 AM) is that supposed to be in green? for every 1 assist there are probably 2 maybe 3 balls he takes an awful angle to an ends up a double. Soriano is a dynamic offensive player when he is on... but lets not mistake assists for good defense. He's good in left.
