Sox get Mike MacDougal for Tyler Lumsden and Daniel Cortes
nitetrain8601 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I actually liked Lummy. Damn, we're getting rid of all the prospects I like. Gio, Lummy, and Tracey is optioned. When can we get rid of guys like McCarthy and Broadway? -
nice, but it's probably over now.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) That would be moving BMAC into the rotation. It has to be. McD just took his spot. McCarthy was our right handed setup man? Since when?

QUOTE(infohawk @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) Sorry, I'm confused. Why do you say that? Well the Soriano deal, because BMac pitched. That part wasn't related to your post. I sometimes don't make sense so don't mind me. Thanks again for the info though.

What SOX game do you remember Watching and Being Furious about?

July 2006 as well. These hurt much more so because we know this is a championship type team, but they're not playing anywhere near the level of one. -
Nice work infohawk. I'm guessing this means the Soriano deal is officially dead.
-
Now that I think of it, this trade reminds me of last years deal with Burnett. All talk and no walk.
-
Don't see the deal happening. Never did.
-
That's what happens when you let him pitch to batters the 3rd time around.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) I understand the point you're making about coming back from 6 or 7 down with the guy, but doesn't putting one of the two guys in MLB in LF who's actually worse than Podsednik out there actually increase the likelihood of those gigantic innings? He's better than Podsednik out there.
-
I'm pretty sure it was sarcasm.
-
Why don't the Sox hit someone in the ribs? Seriously, stop aiming for the legs, and just flat out hit the guy. I hate this crap about throwing behind a player. No, they hit you intentionally and more than once, so you have to get someone right in the rubs and not let it go.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) A bullpen can make a starting staff better. All it takes is a good 1-2 combo in the rotation if you have a solid pen. Just look at the Twins success for all these years. Yes, they never wont the World Series. Also, a bullpen with no long relievers or guys used as long relief(unless the game goes to extra innings) doesn't change the fact that the SP are giving up 6 or 7 runs because of their "bad inning". I rather have Soriano and keep him if possible.
-
Anyone know Sandy Alomar Jr's CERA?
-
Honestly though, if Bush holdsout, then do any of you think he'll be taken #1 next year? I don't think he would. I think too many teams would see him as a bad apple that's greedy. He'd probably still go in the top 5, but a guy who didn't play football for a year and was complaining because he didn't get #1 money doesn't sit well with quite a few teams. Then again, there might be the 49ers who are desperate for a RB again and they would take him #1 overall.
-
Honestly, I rather have Alfonso instead of many of the crappy relievers thrown out there. He's better defensively than Pods, he's a legit 40-40 threat, and rejuvenates the team almost singlehandedly. A reliever really wouldn't do that. Right now, bullpen really isn't the problem, it's the starters. I say we go for Alfonso Soriano and Rheal Cormier in a 3 way.
-
I may be wrong, but I thought the Sox weren't paying Vaz's complete deal. In fact, I thought it was only around 6 or 7 mil they were paying. Surely, the Nats would take that on, especially if they could find a taker for Soriano and/or Livan.
-
I agree that he pays attention toooooooo much to lefty-righty matchups, but I don't think he'll ever change.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 12:40 AM) Soft tossers without location are meat in the majors. Buerhle has had good control, up until about a month ago. Garcias control hasnt been pinpoint his entire career. The fact that he has no velocity means that unless the team is super aggressive, they just wait it out and he will give them the cookie they deserve. Too bad we didnt draft a guy like Garza or Carillo. We keep drafting soft tossers who can barely break a plain of glass. Hopefully this experience with soft tossing freddy and Buerhle without control, will start to get the draft in the right direction. PREACH

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) If Garcia would get tossed for plunking someone in the first, it'd be bullspiff. Padilla hit AJ on two consecutive pitches in two consecutive AB's after having perfect control for the majority of the night, but he didn't get ejected. By that logic alone, even if its intentional, Garcia shouldn't be tossed if he were to do that. Then again, this won't happen. Garcia won't hit anyone unless its later on in the game, so whatever. If that's the case, hopefully Garcia drills whoever in the 1st. That would mean McCarthy.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) This team is flat. What do you do when a team is flat? Either trash their bullpen and get momentum, or bench a guy, or put on endless steals/hit and runs, or make a trade. Or make the wierdest lineup possible. Have PK bat leadoff, Uribe and Anderson hitting 3 and 4, and have Thome as the number 9 hitter.

Garland Translated Stats: IP H ER HR BB HBP SO ERA W L SV H/9 HR/9 BB/9 SO/9 227.3 253 118 29 47 3 120 4.67 14 10 0 10.0 1.1 1.9 4.8 Dontrelle: 265.0 297 118 25 75 21 148 4.01 14 13 0 10.1 .8 2.5 5.0 Close, but Dontrelle is still better. Argument really isn't about Garland either, so I don't know why he got thrown in there. I was talking about Buehrle. But sure, let's steer clear of criticizing Buehrle and talking about trading him. He sure is the franchise right guys?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) So you want to trade a pitcher who you think sucks for another pitcher who is currently sucking and only going to get worse that's cool. Take a look at Willis' year by year stats, his K/9, K/BB, WHIP, ERA, BABIP anything you want, his future is going to be full of Hideo Nomo comparisons and I don't want any part of that. You want Willis and don't want Buehrle that's your whole thing. I really could care less. Okay, Buehrle is the greatest player ever. He's looking great out there. He's dealing wins like no other(for the other team, but nevermind that). I don't know why you keep saying Nomo. Nomo never threw as hard as Willis does. Nomo never had as great as pitches as Willis does.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) I didn't even look at the stats mainly because I don't need to. Dontrelle is headed down a bad road and his stats are fine evidence of it. I have no use for him but whatever. I just showed his translated stats compared to Buehrle's. If anything, Buehrle's headed down the bad road considering he's not a strikeout pitcher, and he couldn't hit the ocean if he was living on a boat near the coast of Hawaii.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) National League, in a pitchers park. Yeah that's great, you can compare numbers as of right now all you want, it's fairly evident that Willis is going down the Nomo path right now. If you want to trade Buehlre for Willis more power to ya, it can be your new kick. Translated stats takes into account ballpark effects IIRC and leagues.
