QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 07:26 AM) Garland was going to get $7-8 million in arbitration, so in essence he received a 2 year $22 million extension. Contreras looking for the same money + 1 more year is far from unreasonable. He was the guy starting each playoff series, not Garland. Dick, Since you put it this way, for Garland to receive $11 mil per year for 2 years, I think, is a little bit too much. Why in the world Kenny want to give Garland that much money? On our pitching staff, Garland is going to be a 4th or 5th starter anyway, and you don't pay the 4th or 5th starting pitcher that much money! At first, I thought this signing is a prelude to a huge trade with the Dodgers or the Orioles, but after hearing that Garland has a no-trade clause on the first year of his extension contract, I just don't know what Kenny is thinking. Something gotta give. There's no way we can hold onto Contreras now. We are NOT the Yankees. We don't have that big of a budget to go over $100 mil. Perhaps, we can trade Contreras now. Perhaps, the Dodgers or the Orioles do not think Garland is that great of a pitcher. Perhaps, they think Contreras is the #1 pitcher that they want. Honestly, between the two, I rather keep Contreras. Contreras has much better stuff than Garland. We'll see. One thing for sure, this offseason is getting more interested...

Folks, Somehow I have a feelings that this signing is the prelude to a huge trade with the O's - Garland & Uribe for Tejada & prospects. Now that Garland is signed for 3 years for a measly $29 mil, Kenny just doubled up or even tripled Garland's trading value. What an exciting offseason! One thing is certain, with Kenny at the helm, there can never be tranquility.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5198892 Our White Sox is the only team that gets an A grade, while Cubs owns a D-! Few things that I really disagree with Perry. First, his preference of trading Podsednik to the Phillies instead of Rowand is obnoxious. Two problems with his argument: a) Perhaps the Phillies do not want Podsednik. B) If we trade Podsednik, who is going to bat leadoff for us? And the loss of Frank Thomas wasn't even mention! Other than that, I gotta give it to Kenny Williams to pull off such wonderful moves this offseason.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) I see how the addition of Otsuka helps the Rangers' bullpen but how does trading a talented young pitcher for another pitcher of similar quality help their rotation? And Young could be better than Eaton eventually. I don't get it. On the Rangers' board, their fans are really ticked off by this trade. They mentioned that Eaton will be a FA after 2006. How come the Padres were able to swing a deal with its soon-to-be-free-agent? Put them both on a scale, who is the better pitcher as of now, Eaton or Garland? Man, I wish we could swing a trade with the Rangers - Garland & Crede for Blalock and couple of their stud minor league pitchers!

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) Eaton + Otsuka + prospect for Adrian Gonzalez + Chris Young + Terrmel Sledge Per ESPN Does that mean the Rangers will not trade with the White Sox for Garland anymore?

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 01:00 PM) That sounds semi-reasonable in this market. Washburn is actually much more established than a good chunk of the guys getting this kind of money, and he has some playoff experience. For his career he is almost 20 games over .500 and has a career ERA of 3.93 in the AL. He's a pretty decent #3 starter, although he's gone downhill a bit since his excellent 2002 season. Makes you wonder what guys will be getting next year when some real pitchers are on the market like Pettitte, Schmidt, Mulder, Zito, and our two guys. Will the salaries keep escalating or will they calm down a bit because there is more talent available? Somewhere in between sounds about right. I can't imagine too many pitchers getting $12 mil or more per year. If Washburn gets $9.375 mil, how much do you think the White Sox should pay Contreras? Pitchers are becoming so expensive now!

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) Nothing to hide= nothing to worry about. That is just an arrogant, stupid and irresponsible statement. As a citizen of the United States, don't I have the right to my privacy? Furthermore, the news of our President authorized the NSA to spy on citizens within the US WITHOUT a warrant is very intriguing! Let's see how is this thing going to pan out?

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) But wouldn't the Angels be better off waiting a year and just signing him? That's the question. Being a west coast team, they would have the inside track on signing Garland if he really wanted to move closer to home. I sure wouldn't mind a trade of Garland for Scot Shields and prospects though. If the Angels truly want Garland, it's better for them to do it now. If other teams are also asking for Garland's service, and if they do a trade with the White Sox, they might lock up Garland immediately after the trade! For example, the Dodgers. That's the risk the Angels have to take should they want to wait 'till next year.
-
Not sure of its authenticity, but I got this from an Angels message board. And if this is true, pour the potential Tejada-for-Garland-and-Uribe trade down the drain. No way I will do the trade if indeed the Orioles want both of our arms and legs for Tejada.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 01:17 PM) The last two days on this board, I've seen some of the strangest posts I think I've ever seen on this site. Here's one question I have for my fellow Sox fans: WHY ARE YOU SCARED OF KENNY WILLIAMS IMPROVING THIS TEAM? Now, I know I'm considered one of the more negative posters on this site. However, I can't believe how upset some people seem to be that KW is breaking up last year's team. Last year's WS winning Sox team was a good mix of talent with great chemistry, and also seemed to be a team of destiny all year. There's absolutely no guarantee that if the same team stayed together for the 2006 season that they would even go to the playoffs. There are many teams that have an amazing season one year, and then the next year, the ball doesn't bounce the same way it did the year before, and injuries happen that hurt the team. KW has made a few major moves that will significantly improve the team in the next year or two. Trust me, with the amount of money that the White Sox are bringing in right now (tickets, merchandise, etc.), there wasn't a chance in hell that JR and KW weren't going to go for the juggular when it comes to building the 2006 Sox team. I find it funny how some posters seem to get mad that we're bringing in these high priced guys like Thome and Vazquez. One question...since when did we worry about the WHITE SOX bringing in high-priced talent? Most of us used to long for the days we could have a high enough payroll to bring in the big contracts of talented players. Since we're not personally paying these contracts, why not just be thrilled that JR is going out of his way to put together an extremely talented team. Another thing that's frustrating me is how people are complaining about losing pieces of our bullpen. Duque, Viz, and Marte were our three worst pitchers BY FAR last season (that were on the roster throughout the season). I'm thrilled that they're all gone. Relievers are very inconsistent, and there's no way to predict how they'll be from one year to the next. You know what the best solution to a potentially weak bullpen is? That's right, have a great starting pitching staff. The only criticism that I'll have for KW is if he trades Garland, and doesn't receive high value for him. KW has given up some valuable pieces this offseason (Young and Gio) in order to acquire talent. KW has got to make sure that he doesn't negate Garland's potentially trade value just cause he knows he can't resign him So in closing....enjoy the fact the White Sox won the World Series. Enjoy the fact that KW is making some moves to acquire talented players. This is a hell of a lot better than a few years ago when we were acquiring the likes of Royce Clayton and Todd Ritchie. Fathom, I totally agree with you. As a matter of fact, Steve Stone on the Score also agreed with us. Stone mentioned one of the biggest reasons why it is so difficult for teams to repeat its championship is because of its complacency. He mentioned the Red Sox for example. Because of its lost of starters along with lack of signing good players, the Red Sox could not repeat. He and Murphy on the Score both said that Kenny has done a fabulous job in terms of not giving other teams the CHANCE TO GET BETTER THAN the White Sox over the course of the offseason. Stone further said in the market where starting pitchers are a rarity, Kenny is in the perfect position to swing a great deal for the White Sox. WOW!!! Folks, I'm starting to feel it. Enjoy the makeover! The 2005 Chicago White Sox Champions are here to stay for few years! To Kenny

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) So are you guys saying you wouldn't do Blalock, Wilkerson and Danks or Diamond for Garland and Crede? I hate giving up Crede, but if Crede's back is going to be an issue, I'd make the move. I think Blalock has a heck of a lot of talent, but he has definately struggled as of late. What the HELL you guys are drinking? Give me a pen, and let me know where to sign. I'll sign the damn deal IMMEDIATELY. Garland & Crede for Blalock, Wilkerson and Danks - IN A HEARTBEAT!

Call him EVIL all you want, but on Silvy and Carmen show with Jayson Start, all of them are raving and praising all the moves that Kenny William has made this offseason. Jayson further mentioned, "I am not saying the White Sox are a lock to win it all again, but with all the RIGHT moves that Kenny has made, they are currently better than the Yankees, Red Sox, Indians, Twins. They are the best right now in the American League!" Silvy and Carmen also agreed with Mariotti that Kenny IS a GM gem!

QUOTE(TLAK @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) He has trash canned the best hitter I ever saw in Frank Thomas and traded the man threw the best single ½ inning a baseball I have ever seen in my life, in Orlando Hernandez. He disposed of the epitome of the World Championship team in Aaron Rowand, a guy we watched grow and regress in Marte and a guy who took one for the team in April that haunted his entire season in Vizcaino. He discarded Carl Everett who carried the offense at times. He dismissed the man who hit a game winner in the first World Series the team went to in 46 years. He is bringing in some big names to replace them but I miss my guys. I waited all my 53 years for a championship and now 6 of the 25 heroes from the playoff roster plus Frank – a quarter of them – are gone and we haven’t even gotten to spring training yet. The magic of 2005, of our guys, a team that nobody else respected but knew in its heart it could do it, a team that got great plays from the most unlikely sources is gone. The warmth I felt for the team going against all probabilities is being replaced fantasy baseball-like expected run production ratios. When Williams starts his BS about the Sox being a family all the players need to do is look how Frank, Aaron, Orlando, Damaso, Luis, Geoff and Carl were all s*** canned within 2 months of winning the ring for them -great family. When is Kenny going to stop killing the best thing that ever happened to the White Sox for a half century? TLAK, Who the hell put together the World Championship Team for our beloved White Sox? Who the hell endured all criticism when every expert from the beginning of the year trounced him for making ridiculous trades (Carlos Lee for Pods and Vizcaino, etc.), and who got the last laugh? Your opinion TRULY makes me laugh at your absurdity!

QUOTE(hi8is @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) i love KW "I encourage all of you to put down the notebooks and stop reading the rumor mills and ignore us for a little while," Williams said. "We'll handle some of our little peripheral things in a quiet manner, and hopefully, if we ever have to make another announcement, we can all get back together and have another little talk about it." edit: if you dont remember, he said that after signing konerko Damn KW! How can he lie to me with a straight face like that? I love his trades so far. If somehow, we can send Garland, Uribe and a prospect to the Orioles for Tejada, I will bow down to him whenever I see him.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 01:41 PM) Tell me what's right about a QB who has a rating of 60 and couldn't complete a pass while playing catch. That's what I don't understand about Orton's supporters! From the time when Grossman got injured, I have been rooting for Orton, but it gets to a point where it's just so painful to watch how lousy Orton has been playing. Orton DID NOT lead the Bears to a 9-3 record. Our DEFENSE does! We are so close to a Super Bowl that we need to upgrade our QB situation NOW. Put Grossman in.

QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 07:10 AM) Thanks Bri... Jim however will be kicking your ass the next time we see you. Hi everyone, I emailed Pat this morning to compliment her White Sox painting. Well, she emailed me back and wanted to know the name of this forum. I am asking for the admins' advice. Thanks.

QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) Appreciate it, thanks. She just added it, it wasn't on there a couple of hours ago. That's a good price for a print like that. SufferingSox, yes, if you find out about availability can you post it here because I'm sure other fans besides myself might want one. Thank you. I will also post info when I hear back from the artist. SufferingSox, please let me know as well. The painting is already on my desktop. This is so GREAT! By the way, here is hoping you are no longer a "suffering Sox" fan! We've done it!

White Sox acquire Jim Thome per ESPNnews
S720 replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As of NOW, does anyone think Gio and Haigwood worth $22 millions? Answer that question, then answer the following question. If you are building a team RIGHT NOW, would you take Rowand OVER Thome? My answers are NOT EVEN CLOSE! Kenny is trying to win a World Series ONE MORE TIME. In all of the papers that I have read regarding this trade, the experts have given Kenny a thumbs up. Kenny is not here to please you OR me. He's here trying to bring the trophy to the south side ONE MORE TIME. Now my answers: Regardless how potentially good you think Gio and Haigwood are, they are NOT worth $22 millions as of now. Regardless of the difference in age, I take Thome in a heartbeat over Rowand. -

QUOTE(S720 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 08:12 AM) Per Bruce Levine this morning, Phillies want Rowand AND Contreras/BMAC for Jim Thome. If this is the case, I say, "THE HELL WITH YOU! I'll stick with my players then." I forgot. AND the White Sox has to pay 2/3 of Thome's salary! What the hell the Phillies are thinking or eating or drinking or sniffing?
