The Sexual Assault problem
The Obama's let Malia intern for Weinstein. I think people are taking the "everybody knows" thing a little too literally.

New rule idea: Vertical safe zone
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 13, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Why have out of bounds then in football and basketball. I too watch the game to watch athletes do athletic things. I find it annoying when the 90 yard runback gets called back because of a few inches touching the line. I mean its not like he is 4 feet past the line. And yet both of those sports have compromises to actually being "out of bounds" just as grey as a proposed "vertical safe zone", such as being marked down where you first touch out of bounds, not where you first enter out of bounds. Which is strange right? If you are out of bounds you should be out of bounds, not allowed to travel forward still when you aren't in field of play! This offends my sensibilities!

New rule idea: Vertical safe zone
Basketball also deals with rules like this that are more obscure for goaltending and it's fine.

New rule idea: Vertical safe zone
We alter the rules all the time. I watch baseball to see something cool like seeing if a runner's speed can beat a throw to the base. The part where the runner whose speed was so entertaining causes his leg to bounce up 3 inches off the bag for a second so while the defender lazily holds it on top fo him is...not entertaining. It's not like they are sliding 4 feet past the bag.

New rule idea: Vertical safe zone
QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Oct 13, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) I just think you are going to make things infinitely more complicated trying to make a rule like this, where as it is pretty cut and dry with the rules how they are now. on the base you are safe, off you are not... why make some convoluted rule for this case where its ok to come off the base. Don't make things more complicated than they need to be. I don't find this that complicated.

New rule idea: Vertical safe zone
If you require people to stick their heel to the base to stop there will be more injuries. So they slide over it and may injure the player on second, avoid both and are now getting tagged out. Maybe first to touch is best then. Seems like they are in a bad spot that has caused a lot more issues.

Off Season Buy Low Candidates
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 03:45 PM) MLBTR just came out with their Offseason Outlook for the White Sox. They mention some interesting potential free agent signings being Clay Buchholz, Jeremy Hellickson, Francisco Liriano, Wade Miley, Hector Santiago, and Chris Tillman. They also mention some possible trades where we could take on the player and their large contract in exchange for also taking a prospect. The list of these guys was Matt Kemp, Nick Markakis, Yasmany Tomas, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Wei-Yin Chen. I like the idea of taking advantage of our low payroll as a way to get more prospects because unless we have some successful sign-and-flips, the non-draft additions to our farm system are basically done. The second paragraph I'd be intrigued by. But we'd have to get a guy we feel is better than the player that could get tryouts in the DH position.

Off Season Buy Low Candidates
Man I went through the FA list and none stuck out beyond what's mentioned. I think my best hope for a real pick me up could be rule 5, which could be very interesting this year. That said. I like the options mentioned for C. I really don't see a Position player i'd care for. Fine with going hunting for people like Willy Garcia and Liriano again (and Asche).

The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) Mega DNC donator and friend of Clintons/Obama gets caught doing all sorts of sexual acts on people and the focus is on...a Trump quote from 2005. Harvey Weinstein is going to face repercussions for his actions and hopefully will receive justice. People are mounting a write-in campaign to vote out the DA that did not move forward against him. The people that stand up for women's rights cannot guarantee that all people that have ever claimed to support womens rights or supported a politician who supported womens rights had never sexually assaulted or raped a woman. They can try to ensure they receive repercussions and justice, however, and not sweep it under the rug, or, you know, elect them president.

2018 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) This doesn't quite sound right to me, especially if we go back a decade (same administration). With those picks they were prioritizing "having guys who could be traded or contribute to the ballclub rapidly" over the best available talent. I also feel like guys in the Mitchell-Hawkins-Anderson years were signed underslot as well, although my memory is fuzzier there so someone please tell me if I'm wrong? I feel like the moment when we could all say "The White Sox took the BPA" literally started with Rodon. Yeah I disagree for different reasons. One, I think draft history for the white sox that's useful begins with the draft allotments (2013?). But, I also think that Rodon is the only real example of us taking BPA anyway. The strategy of going underslot in the first really is only effective when you have the bigger 1-5 bonuses and would have a shot at the first group after the comps or throwing money at the final high schoolers worth a damn in the 3rd round. The sox drafted Rodon, he was also clearly BPA. Did we draft BPA with Burger? He fit our new type but I wouldn't say he was obvious BPA. With Collins? I don't think so either. But it's also because I don't really think BPA is an easy concept in the mlb draft. I think of these guys in tiers.

2017-2018 NFL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) I do give you guys a hard time about the Gentry love fest, but the current core does seem to be getting worse every week, so yeah, he doesnt have to do much on the field to be an upgrade. It's mainly that all of our receivers are very samey. Gentry offers someone whose strength is jump balls when everyone else is just trying to reach their ceiling of basically being Kendall Wright. It won't matter if Gentry can't get off the line of scrimmage, but the experiment of Wheaton or Thompson as our jump ball deep threats failed.

2017 Minor League Catch-All thread
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) Or he could end up being one one of those prospects who spends about a week in AAA before coming to the majors or skipping AAA all together. Of course, this is after spending a good chunk of the season at AA. I agree. AA is the bigger test to me. If he's raking in Birmingham, Charlotte will be nothing but biding time.

2018 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 08:00 AM) Kyle Wright wasn't going to take the discount that Royce Lewis did though. That's a huge factor for teams like the Twins who had multiple picks in the top 50. They got a discount at #1 and then paid a tough HS signing multiple times throughout the rest of the draft. Hunter Greene was the best player in the draft and the Reds paid him accordingly. Mackenzie Gore was the best HS pitcher but also was cheaper than Wright or McKay would have been in the same spot. Tampa Bay and Atlanta were willing to pay around $7 million for the top college talent that fell into their laps. I don't see any reason why this changes this year, though, which is why I'd bet the #1 overall pick will not be a college pitcher.

Merkin claims Tilson is real
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 09:08 AM) Anyone know what the recovery for the surgery mentioned would be? Didn't it also come across as so tenuous? Like he could come back for spring training, it would beome worse and then he's gone for another year.
