  1. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 10:39 AM) I think there would have to be something major happen. Some scandal that not even they could hide from. Which seems almost impossible at this point. This doesn't seem like the group to challenge Trump. Who would even challenge him? Someone like Rubio. Trump would crush him. Look at how they voted for his cabinet. YES - 412 NO - 3 CabinetVotes.org Republicans know how to fall in line. Right but I think where I can see it happening is they are all doing this because they want the big tax reform bill to pass. If that doesn't pass, there is no reason for them to support the circus.
  2. You have all convinced me with the McMullin stuff, good points there. When was last real primary of a president up for re-election? Feels like the party apparatus would shut it down, but with McMullin not currently an elected official it makes sense.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 10:01 AM) I think Paul Ryan for sure runs against Trump LOL no way. What sunlight has he put between him and Trump?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) I don't think there is any question that someone will run against him. There are a couple of guys out there who have been setting themselves up to do so. Sasse?
  5. Board Question: There was a decent article sometime back comparing how Trump could end up like Jimmy Carter, in that Carter fumbled his relationship with a majority dem congress so badly nothing of substance passed. If tax reform and ACA measures can't get passed (say takes too long then Dems gain the House in 18), do we see it as remotely possible Trump would be primaried?
  6. As a snake bitten bears fan, I am very nervous about this "betters have Bears in lead to land Garrapolo" stuff. I just have no confidence that this will work out.
  7. It's crazy where we are that Tom Price with all of those scandals can get so easily nominated by his party.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 04:35 PM) https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uplo...ement-FINAL.pdf Looks like Chaffetz being on blast all day may have gotten some action. Will be shocked if anything more than "he receives response and then says he is satisfied with response" happens.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) Except we won't be able to sign him for some time. He's off the Twins for 40-man roster and paying him so there is no reason for them to release him if they can keep him in AAA. I shouldn't have said sign, I meant claim/acquire.
  10. I would just like to say that I would like us signing Park. His contract isn't a big deal, and he hits the ball hard when he hits it.
  11. So I saw Drob and melky did I miss anyone?
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 10:39 AM) Bulls attendance amazes me. Before MJ, they would routinely draw less than 10k a night. Even his first couple of years, most nights, unless they were playing LA, Boston or Philadelphia, you could easily buy tickets at the box office the night of the game. But even when they were awful afterwards, and mediocre now, and ticket prices are really a joke, they have no problem filling the place up. 70s were the leanest years of the NBA though. Jordan certainly established a solid fan base, but I don't think Bulls would have seen such poor attendance after STern's changes in the 80s.
  13. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 12:55 PM) Sure you can, so long as it passes strict scrutiny. Not all constitutional rights/rules are absolute. None are absolute, but freedom of religion would be closest. I can't imagine a policy that is meaningfully discriminatory (i.e. actually would achieve it's purpose) and would pass being constitutional. He could increase the amount of refugees from countries with persecuted christians, which would increase amount of christians admitted and that would be fine, but it would also let a large number of non-christians who are refugees in as well. Not very discriminatory, technically would show a religious preference, and would be legally defensible. But to combine targeted countries and establish rules to discriminate against specific religions would begin establishing a national policy on religion, even if not "discriminating" explicitly against citizens. I would be surprised if standing could not be established as proving injury from a policy likes this seems plausible. Again, it's remarkable that given the ample room given to set immigration policy he managed to craft policy that blew up like this. That said, maybe I'm wrong. The challenges to the law to date have seemed to rest exclusively on the fact that Trump calls in a ban.
  14. The president has a huge authority to dictate immigration which is why its so amazing they could mess this up so much. Reality is had they not suprise enforced it and left families stuck in airports a lot of this would just be "this is bad!" but less of a backlash. He has this authority. But I have to question the constitutionality of this. Regardless of whether the religious requirements are placed on non-citizens, a law stating religious preference for entrance into US seems to inherently conflict with 1A to me. You can't say that no law can be made infringing upon freedom of religion and then make a law infringing on it.
  15. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) This is exactly why the minute-by-minute stuff has to stop. Not only do you get yourself all worked up over false news (love by the way how you and others rail against dumb Trump supporters for this and yet you've fallen for this twice, the other being his imminent attack on LGBTs that never happened), but you also give credence to his bulls*** attacks against the media for being wrong/unfair. His dumb supporters watch/listen to you and the media that covers and complains about these false stories and then they justify their belief that ALL media is wrong/bulls***. The LGBT exec order leaked and was killed, it may have been floated on purpose, but doesn't mean it was false. Real time will always be a bit messy. There is a difference though when people actually consume the corrected information instead of believing any information that confirms your beliefs, and discarding any corrected information as a conspiracy. And also, at some point the fault of Trump being elected lies on Trump voters themselves. If there whole outlook of success is whether I'm unhappy about something, that's a poor way to run the country and make decisions.
  16. And he remembers Ben Carson!
  17. So sad watching Bulls move to irrelevance. I appreciated our teams even as they had a ceiling, they were still close. This is the Bulls as they move to Milwaukee Bucks 2000-2010 era.
  18. I'm not surprised. All of the forecasts seem to put a lot of weight on depth. It probably projects pretty good numbers for our pitchers/Moncada. But, I'm convinced our offense will be awful so I doubt it.
  19. What stories has Sean Sears ever scooped?
  20. Severino is fine. We gain in that we get a very likely MLB level catcher. But he'd also very likely be a catcher we constantly want to upgrade over. Wouldn't mind a higher upside guy.
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) I doubt the Nats trade Robles for anyone. They would have for Sale but he'll be their CF in 2 years when Harper leaves. Right. If I have a top ten outfield prospect and am possible to lose one of the best outfielders in the game in 2 years, I'm not trading him for an over 30 reliever and a questionable starter. I'm getting some big time MLB help or holding him.
  22. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Feb 5, 2017 -> 08:51 PM) Because whether the trade happens in the next few weeks or at the deadline "soon" is vague enough to cover all basis for him. Doesn't exactly take a genius to know Q will be traded sooner or later. If he was really that confident he would have been more specific about the trade happening before the season. I mean, there are no repercussions even if Q was never traded. He can throw out whatever and it doesn't matter. And we'll still talk about his future rumors too.
  23. QUOTE (farmteam @ Feb 4, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) I went to New Trier. Doesn't surprise me there's some of these idiots in the district. That said, the school itself is pretty inclusive, at least in a traditional sense. That one guy quoted mentioned that he didn't think the area was racist. He's not necessarily wrong -- the North Shore is much more classist than it is out and out racist. I don't think it's an indictment on new trier, that school lineup sounds awesome. Beside there are plenty of things to make fun of new trier alums for that are more accurate
  24. http://trib.in/2krGPir Oh man. Read to the part where the parents offer their recommendation for speakers.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) I could have sworn seattle just traded bonus pool amounts. IT was Rockies/Cubs trade. Any idea what difference is here? "The teams will also be swapping international bonus slots for the 2016-17 signing period: the Rockies will acquire slot No. 28 in exchange for slot No. 74, increasing their overall pool by $211,800." http://www.purplerow.com/2017/2/1/14474290...er-chicago-cubs EDIT: nvm it's what you said, 2016-17
