Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
bmags replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bruni @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) I'll take Mateo (mmmm... grade 80 speed...), Rutherford, Andujar & Sands please and thank you. Get 'er done Rick! Isn't it interesting. Do we get more bang asking for Mateo, who had a down year last year, or should we continue asking for these helium guys like Torres. Mateo is scary, since he has now had a down year with no Torres-like redeeming second half, and has a lot of risk because unlike Torres he's not as good drawing walks. He reminds me a lot of a faster Tim Anderson with the potential for more power but just potential now. Just judging by what Hostetler has valued elswhere, I can see us pushing for Torres in any package. -

QUOTE (Fantl916 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) this is counter-intuitive to why the yankees would trade for a pitcher... they already have 2017 rotation depth issues, so why would they subtract a good sp to add a better one? if they're trading a part of their future you can surely assume that it's in part to be competitive sooner, and as such you'd almost have to assume they'd balk at including any piece that subtracts from their major league roster. I think the main flaw in this thinking is you think Pineda is good. But regardless, the only reference anyone made about Pineda was from me, and it was about taking on a reclamation project like him largely outside a Quintana framework.. I think you over estimate the market for below average starting pitchers with 1 year left on their deal. His last two years starting Pineda has an average ERA of 4.59. However, his FIP is lower and there is a chance he'd be a good 1-for-1 dump if you think you know something others don't. If you want to apply that stuff to Severino, Judge, Sanchez, etc, I get it, but Pineda isn't that. -

QUOTE (Fantl916 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) Guys, there's no way we'd be getting Pineda, Severino or any other player (ie Judge) who's on the Yankees 2017 major league roster. If 125+ pages of this topic has taught us anything, it's that no team is going to include anyone on their actual roster + super sweet prospects for a sweet addition to their roster. The only exception we maybe have to that so far is Reynaldo Lopez, who was prob a bullpen piece for Washington. I think you'd have to look at some combo of guys 1-2 years away like Torres, Frazier, Rutherford, etc. with depth pieces like Andujar, Kaiperan, etc. Pineda only has a year left and was bad last year. He's not part of their current or future plans beside innings eater and hoping he finally harnesses his stuff. -

Disclaimer: This is probably a very bad addition to a Q trade if he takes any future value away from the package: But I really have wanted to take a flyer on Michael Pineda as a Cooper project. He I believe is in final year of arbitration, so this is a flip project. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) Sox were trying to compete last year, they weren't looking to trade their top reliever. They traded Duke, and by all reports had discussed Sale even for a comical price. I can't imagine they didn't hear any offers on Robertson. They were 8 games back of the wild card on August 1st.

The most important thing out of that rumor is a team that is not the Astros is now linked to Quintana. And, for those that want a depth package, the Yankees are definitely your farm system. -
It doesn't seem like there is a large market of teams selling out to win right now. That will change at deadline. I would love to know if Sox feel regret holding onto Drob at deadline last year after seeing his market this offseason or if it was largely the same.

I thought our offensive line has been +. Give us a playcaller that knows to run the ball, legit tight ends, and revamped defensive backfield and we could be somewhere.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) For a few million dollars, or less, I wouldn't be opposed. It might even move Avi out of town. Naw Avi is our RFer!

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 09:03 AM) I really hope the Packers fire Dom Capers at season end. Just an awful run defense. To let someone as bad as Matt Barkley almost beat you is pathetic. Listen, nobody can stop the Barkley train except bears receivers. So that means you'll need to hire Josh Bellamy as your DC.

It seems deeply irresponsible of the new republic leaders of the force awakens to not have built their own death star. Their containment strategy clearly has failed, if they don't build their own deterrent than they don't care about their people.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 08:27 AM) Nah, IMO they know they need him. They're just playing hardball in the market. Since no one else seems to be stepping up to challenge them, they probably figure there's no rush to bid against themselves and up their offer. I agree. They aren't dumb. They know Quintana is expensive to get, but also that there were a handful of teams to start the season that would be capable and willing to get him: Los Angeles D Boston Themselves Yankees then Braves/Rockies as wild cards Well Dodgers are out and Boston already spent their load. Yankees appear willing to wait to continue along their path. So it's basically between Houston and two teams that don't even seem that deadset. They'll find a market price but they are not under bidding pressure it seems right now. -

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 18, 2016 -> 07:55 PM) If the Sox have to include Jones to get Dahl, I'd rather pursue a Rodgers/Tapia centered deal, maybe include a good arm and another bat with that. Man, not me. Getting an MLB ready outfielder for a reliever is a no brainer to me -
That didn't last.

As bad as Return of the Jedi was I watched Revenge of the Sith and that was ten times worse and you forget how cheap everything looks. It was like a bad Dr Who episode.

That's basically what Phils did last year. It's good news because it means some unexpected players playing well.

It is nice that in place we are in now Eddy could reasonably see the show for a spell.

Aroldis Chapman blasts Cubs on way out over World Series use
bmags replied to whitesoxjr27's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:53 PM) What's more important to a guy from Cuba, winning the World Series or extending his career and making more millions and helping more of his family and friends? Granted, he's rich as hell already, but the money he's making can change a lot of lives. You really think winning a championship is that important in the grand scheme of things? Chapman by all accounts is a big family man.
