  1. Tomorrow is st Patrick's day
  2. That's basically what Phils did last year. It's good news because it means some unexpected players playing well.
  3. It is nice that in place we are in now Eddy could reasonably see the show for a spell.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:58 PM) But Hahn is the master of negotiation...and what more education can he have? Law degree, MBA and ? Varsity jacket I know.
  5. I bet Holland signs for more than we think.
  6. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:53 PM) What's more important to a guy from Cuba, winning the World Series or extending his career and making more millions and helping more of his family and friends? Granted, he's rich as hell already, but the money he's making can change a lot of lives. You really think winning a championship is that important in the grand scheme of things? Chapman by all accounts is a big family man.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 04:50 PM) I think one day we are all going to login and there will be a report that Q has been traded. Seems like whomever else the Sox are talking to have quiet lips and with everyone staying radio silent, we all might be surprised at who acquires him or how quick it goes down. Might be true, hoping there's a sudden frantic bidding when some team finally provides that final wanted piece and we try to get it countered.
  8. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) But 1 year contracts; those lost picks were recouped one year later. And the Sox would have lost a 2nd round pick (or maybe the comp round pick -forget how it works), but recouped a comp round pick a year later. I will admit that this year Hahn has an excuse to do a contract or 2 for a bad player and, on its own, it doesn't really matter; however it hasn't been restricted to tear down years; that's his modus opeandi in "go for it" years. I just think that this is not a sign of business as usual. This is justified now when it was not last year. The encouraging thing and all that we can hope for is interviews from Hostetler and Hahn of an organization moving toward a longer term view, a realistic assessment of their talent, and a psuh toward player development. This move makes plenty of sense toward that. This move a year ago would have been a compatible with competing. This move makes sense now, it did not make sense then. I think they were capable of doing a good job, I just don't think they were supported to do the right thing and were not talented enough to convince their bosses.
  9. I don't think that ATL is a serious buyer for Q, I just find their farm interesting for its lack of high end bats but very interesting young prospects in bulk.
  10. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) If you go purely off of MLB Pipeline's top 100 prospects, Yankees have six players and White Sox have six players. Yankees: #15, #17, #18, #22, #51, and #78. White Sox: #1, #3, #30, #38, #58, and #80. Yankees system is insanely deep due to int'l spending. There's a reason they had 5 rule 5 picks.
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 04:16 PM) Done with what? The Bears portion of his NFL coaching career.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) I just recently did a working Top 30 list, without a ton of research, as a starting point. I figure this is a good moment to post it. FWIW, I continue to be much lower on Adams than most people... 1 Yoan Moncada 2 Michael Kopech 3 Zack Collins 4 Lucas Giolito 5 Reynaldo Lopez 6 Carson Fulmer 7 Alec Hansen 8 Zack Burdi 9 Luis Alex Basabe 10 Jordan Stephens 11 Dane Dunning 12 Amado Nunez 13 Trey Michalczewski 14 Alex Call 15 Jameson Fisher 16 Luis Curbelo 17 Spencer Adams 18 Micker Adolfo 19 Rymer Liriano 20 Adam Engel 21 Jake Peter 22 Eddy Alvarez 23 Jordan Guerrero 24 Seby Zavala 25 Corey Zangari 26 Dylan Covey 27 Bernardo Flores 28 Jacob May 29 Aaron Schnurbusch 30 Josue Guerrero Just missed: Tyler Danish, Joel Booker, Charlie Tilson, Nick Delmonico, Carlos Perez, Matt Cooper, Johan Cruz The only prospect acquired in the recent trades who I didn't rank is Victor Diaz, who I look at as similar to Robin Leyer (I'd put Diaz somewhere in the 30's). Have at me! I just think it's high likelihood that Danish makes the show as a reliever, still. And that to me gets you in top 30.
  13. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) I don't agree with Collins being ahead of Kopech at this point. If Collins does well this season I can see him shooting up the MLB top 100 rankings considerably though. His bat and patience at the plate are legitimate. If Collins can stick at catcher defensively I really feel like he could be a superstar player. I'm very excited about what he has the potential to become. Woops, I confused myself. Wrong thread.
  14. Mike Freeman reporting Fox will be done.
  15. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) Unfortunately I don't. It is probably harder to do in baseball than any other sport. They'd have to control for upcoming tv money.
  16. He should direct all questions on trump to Mitch McConnell.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 02:59 PM) Catching coordinator is the same guy - John Orton. He gets high marks for his development of defensive improvements for Tyler Flowers (who blossomed into a very good receiver), Josh Phegley (who went from awful to serviceable) and others. Also maybe worth a side note, Cole Armstrong - a former catcher - will be the hitting coach in Birmingham, where I suspect Collins will spend much of his 2017. Excellent thanks.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Dodgers willing to include De Leon for Brian Dozier. Welp. It sucks so much the way the dodgers wound up. Loved their prospects.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) Good plan on Collins. Give the guy every shot to catch. Hostetler said as much in the recent interview. Nice to see. Do you know if any of the coach shakeups would be good fit for working on a catchers defense?
  20. There is also a lot more in there, they are going to work on development for all pitchers and not move them up until ready. Acknowledged in a way that Fulmer going up as a reliever was not good for his development.
  21. http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...re-time-develop Great article from Hayes
  22. http://www.baseballamerica.com/viewpoint/r...VWVFZhKWsxKw.97 Man, starting to look good. Soon we may be in place where our 15-20 guys are players like May/Engel that have potential to turn bats around and become major leaguers.
  23. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 01:45 AM) I looked at his 2016 Indy league stats and they definitely weren't MVP worthy... I then finally clicked on the link and learned that he's only the Indy league ASG MVP Ha, I'm sorry. My bad.
  24. I'm a bit surprised its this high. I love our star power now but to me it doesn't have depth of yankees or padres, where 30 deep has players that could be MLBers.
  25. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) Correct me if I'm wrong, but the author didn't discount present value. $20 million of surplus value 5 or 6 years from now is not as valuable as $20 million in surplus value in years 1 and 2. Do you know anywhere that accounts for this?
