  1. I think caulfield caught rubios glitch. Does that get passed through the air or
  2. Sour grapes, but would have rather had Henderson Alvarez for 1.25 m more
  3. Latos Rodon and Sale in the same bullpen, pretty intense.
  4. 02 Bonds I recognize as obviously the best offensive season ever, but still would pay ANYTHING to be able to watch 162 games of Ken Griffey Jr in his prime where black, white and grey
  5. Also an interesting question to me is if you took two all world pitching years and made a rotation of 2 historical players, would you say that's automatically a playoff team?
  6. I really wanted to put 72 Dick Allen but hard to choose him over Frank Thomas. We have Apiricio and Minoso to take the hole in SS, but hard to take either over the 90s-early 00s mashers. Surprised for the lack of 2003 loaiza love, especially 2012 Jake Peavy.
  7. Here are the rules: You get to draft two historical players and a specific year of their career in order to guarantee the current white sox roster gets into the playoffs. Example: 98 Pedro Martinez - SP 96 Griffey Jr - CF Open Considerations: - Despite the fact that you are choosing the best year of a player, translation to current era can be factored in, despite the fact that it may severely undercut this exercise! - Team fit should be considered. Are you going to get 2 awesome position players? 1 pitcher/1 hitter to plug in CF? Are you going to take the world's best 2b regardless, who cares if Lawrie's on the bench? For my draft, I'm thinking going SP/CF, as above, but maybe even: 96 Griffey in CF 85 Dwight Gooden - SP Gooden had 16 complete games in 85, which is the sort of relief which will be a huge help when you have pitchers like Quintana and Rodon who may struggle going late. Also - I never saw him pitch, so want to see 1 player. Griffey in 96 was what I still think of for baseball. Move eaton to RF and deal with Melky in LF. Lineup: Eaton Cabrera Abreu Griffey Frazier Lawrie C Saladino Rotation: Sale Gooden Quintana Rodon Danks/Johnson Alternative mind games: 2 historical White Sox players to put us in the tops. For that I'll go offense alone. I think Billy Pierce would be a fine choice but pre 60s players scare me. 2003 Loaiza seemed soft to me. 94 Thomas - DH 98 Albert Belle- RF Just mash.
  8. I'm not sure any of these are big enough names that we are going to get a bunch of "non-report" reports from the national writers. Wouldn't be surprised if all of the remaining free agents are just "SO AND SO signs X player to deal" out of the blue.
  9. It's pretty amazing. I thought they would fade after boxing day like we saw with Southhampton last year, but they hit it into overdrive.
  10. There's also likely to be a split convention. Just like every election.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) That happened to me when I first started playing FIFA. But there's a reason why you gotta accept the contract offer. It's so you can negotiate with multiple players at once. Ahhh, makes sense. I ended up splurging on younger promising players but, while fun, I'm now spread too thin for training them. Was easier when I focused on two and maxed em out every week.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) Maybe if Niko had built off of last year instead of becoming hot garbage. I was really excited for Niko but pretty clear he was more valuable as an asset. A lot of people were saying that at the time
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 03:31 PM) History is history. It was a factor in the election. Candidates as you are well aware spend amazing amounts of time practicing looking into cameras, making sure they don't look scary on TV. Whether it's 30 percent or 50 percent ... superficial issues like looks and how one sounds definitely trump the issues in my case. Oh
  14. Do we think Jackson might move off of this "triangle offense" kick finally?
  15. Is Holliday still demanding he be an OF?
  16. Hahn and Friedman seem to like each other's working styles.
  17. There is certainly an entertainment value to Christie as he is quite clearly the best bully on the stage. Trump is just crass but unoriginal. Christie clearly has the practice of studying psychologically what will devastate an opponent and hitting them with it. Not a great quality outside of the schoolyard but good fodder on debates.
  18. My really good rubio joke fell flat.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) 100% agreed. I'll admit, I've been a vocal critic of the Sox not doing anything to improve the outfield situation. However, if the Sox front office made decisions solely on what the fans wanted, this franchise would be a disaster. At least we would have avoided Mark Kotsay.
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 6, 2016 -> 12:47 AM) I only got to play for a couple hours, if that, but I really liked the Madison Square Garden mission. If those are what the story missions are going to be like, sign me up. The open world is really pretty and I like the premise, even if it is entirely absurd. The one major gripe I have is the bullet sponge enemies. The elite enemies or whatever they're calling them are just dudes walking around with a winter coat and a snow cap and they take a full round of bullets without staggering. I wish it was more like The Last of Us multiplayer where it hurt to get shot a couple times and you had to make a med kit and take time to apply it to heal. That would make their dark zone area much more interesting. No one would want to get into a fire fight with another player because it would be so easy to die. Now if you get into a fire fight it could go on for several minutes or one of you could easily just bail in the middle. Ha, I would have just quit and reloaded. FIFA career mode is so flaky that weird s*** happens all the time. I did, no dice. ended up doing the billionaire takeover in offseason anyhow and got more players.
  21. We need to dispel with the notion that greg775 doesn't know what he's doing. He knows exactly what he's doing.
  22. This was really the cherry on the terrible nfl season sundae.

    **2016 Films Thread**

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 6, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) Of course. We talk about it in the Marvel thread. Hail Cesear was ok. Had some good scenes but when it ended I wondered what the point was. Damn. Not surprised though, nothing about the movie looked interesting except for "directed by Joel and Ethan Cohen"
