Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
I know people are frustrated, but the CBA does a lot of things that are good in terms of protecting players, but sometimes protecting players in situations like these where we'd hope first order is to protect alleged victims and teams. I was among the first to be concerned about his signing for other reasons, but this is just hard for me to point to the sox just messing up due diligence. This would not have come up on a background check, players on other teams are probably not allowed to be contacted, and other coaches may not have been allowed to know/kept in the dark. Sox shouldn't have signed him for other reasons, but this to me is most likely to have just ended up as the team that has to deal with a players action.

Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
um yes, we already have the dates. MLB began the investigation last June. But as balta posted, the CBA indicates the MLB is not allowed to provide that info until punishment is decided or criminal charges are filed. I'm guessing the MLB taking too long led to the other party going public.

I mean, preller with that info is really obnoxious.

I don't know, were you around for the CJ Abrams pre draft talk? Definitely had that vibe.

Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
man I don't know, I don't think he was that undervalued. Before today, we knew he was on a pitch limit. He was -ok- in San Diego and was coming off a major injury. I really have a hard time believing this was known.

Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
I think distance from that certain people put a soft filter of like "jeeze covid was crazy, guy just went out and people made a big deal about it" when it should have rang other alarm bells that "wow, a guy broke curfew and his entire team wanted his ass shipped out and not come back"

certain posts were edited, as is their right, but that's where a lot of the impressions that people were poking holes in the story were.

Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
I do think it's unlikely sox knew about this, and it's probably just not something mlb can do where they let all teams know about investigations because that sure seems like it could be turned into collusion. But, I always thought it was way too suspicious that his CLE teammates dropped on him so publicly in 2020. SUre seemed like there was more to this guy and that, at the very least, he was not the kinda reliable teammate you should bring into this locker room. Obviously, this goes beyond any sort of being a bad teammate, but I do wonder what was the stuff that had people so ready to drop him while there.

Gonna throw out that letting the process play out and trying to discredit the known facts of the story are actually at odds.

2022-23 NFL Season thread
Dane Brugler's top 15 by position came out. I think most interesting is skowronski put into guard (as was cody mauch from north dakota state). He was higher on Jalin Hyatt than some I've seen. I don't know, I'm kinda luke warm on Brugler, just kinda nice how many writeups he does.

Eloy on the who the new clubhouse leader is: "I don't know. I don't have the answer to that."
Something that stuck out a soxfest a few years (was probably 2020) was a fan asked TA how he like hung out with the guys or something to that effect and he pretty briskly said that when the games over or practices are over he leaves and if they need him for somethin they can always call. Which is like, you know a normal job but kinda sticks out in baseball considering I'm sure the fan wanted to hear a 2005 story like singing Journey at the bar.

Well, I just remember Jose doing the same thing, so I'm sure that's what Eloy is looking at and still holding out hope. Front office just needs a backbone though, they just need to imagine Eloy is a white sox fan so they can berate him for not being as smart as them.

Anyway if you are looking for a leader next year, it's obviously going to be Carlos Perez.

2022-23 NHL Thread
I was wondering more about the significance of each slot down given the lottery odds. I have to say they were bigger drops than I thought looking at tankathon. But, there is 3 months left and a trade deadline. It's not like any of these teams are going to lose out. I do think it's interesting how often in tanking when a team is accused of not even creating a professional, competitive group they end up with not the worst record. In baseball, #1 pick always seems like a group of vets that just completely fell off out of nowhere (baltimore 2018).

Eloy on the who the new clubhouse leader is: "I don't know. I don't have the answer to that."
I'm very confused about why people are mad at Eloy about these comments. Literally every play focused story in the last month has just led to dragging the player. I get that many underperformed last year, but yeah Eloy does not have to be happy about DH'ing. It's fine that a leader is not pre-annointed, and to be sad about a legendary player and one of the best white sox of my life now off the team. "Giolito is working hard to overhaul his delivery to not repeat last year" -> "Stupid idiot always changing and he sucks!" "Lance Lynn experimenting with new pitch last year showed promise" -> "I didn't see it, the idiot sucks!" "Eloy is working hard on his defense and doesn't want to give it up" -> "ah what an idiot!" "Grandal is working with a specialist to improve his back after suffering through it last year" -> "Classic cooked piece of s%*#" K guys.

I mean the boost in renewal calls and e-mails I got from that was noticeable. It seems dumb, but it’s the white Sox.

Honestly wonder if, given the marketing push, they thought benintendi could drive more sales and when it didn’t they needed to “save for the deadline”

Your 2023 Off-Season Plan
High picks in bad drafts, and then like not even a first round pick in one of the best drafts of the millenium in 2011. By the time the white sox drafted Keenyn Allen 47th, sixteen future all stars had been selected. And that's shorthand, it misses Brandon Nimmo, Kolten Wong, Joe Ross and more. And 5 more all stars selected between Allen and Erik Johnson. The white sox then select scott snodgrass before Mookie Betts. This draft the white sox ended up selecting a future MVP finalist in Marcus Semien, and it was still a bad draft considering how much talent there was. The sox ended up nailing two drafts better than pretty much every other franchise in 2013 and 2010, and yet had they stacked 2009* and 2011 correctly it could have been a very different decade. But yeah, the sox sell and tank into some awful drafts. Thems the breaks, the cubs tanked into some incredible ones. Luckily the phillies weren't just relying on mickey moniak. *while trout is the easy one, look at how differently round 2 could go. Trayce Thompson was selected between Nolan Arenado and Jason Kipnis, and then DJ Lemahieu, Patrick Corbin and Kyle Seager go at the end.

Let's make Crochet a starter?
I'm with he gone but also this org will be bad at it. Get his arm good, then don't worry as much about "starter" or "reliever" or whatever, but figure out how to get more innings out of his beautiful gift.

sox have a lot more information so it's a hellish thing to waste a 4th overall pick on a guy like this. But I could write a book on that lead up to his draft. I was happy sox selected madrigal, you read the write-ups, and a whole bunch of things that to me were not projection were written about him. You were getting a guy who was a defensive whiz. Amazing base runner and instincts. Prodigious hit tool. Sure, lacks power but what he does have, he gets all of it. Insane makeup. (that last one is unforgiveable from Hostetlers team) And what makes me most annoyed is these same writers started to walk back this stuff about madrigal by August (so 2 months post draft). And by time he was in charlotte, man it was clear a bunch was bullshit. So, basically as much as he is an annoying person to read, you have to take keith law seriously. His sourced scouts are very good and critical especially against romantic stuff like madrigals grindiness. Now, the other thing unfortunately is the 2018 draft was garbage. Some post in 5 years is gonna be like "actually Nick Madrigal had like 6th most WAR in the first round" blah blah.

Wow I completely forgot about the Parcells era. I do think that it's not that far off from how Pitt is handled, where he at least buoys his HCs with big budgets to build excellent staffs. But clearly Tomlin >>> Garrett, McCarthy as he seems to get more out of less.
