I think it's underrated how impactful it would be within an organization like the sox for someone to actually lose their job over poor performance on the field. Poor performance has typically meant a promotion to an assistant to the GM role/professional reinsdorf best friend OR you had to have been convicted of a crime to be removed. That and I doubt that if you let any other person in the white sox run things it would be the same. Even in the CYA crapfest of sox FO, a Getz led team would be different. A Shirley led team would be different. A haber-led team? Probably same.

I don't get being down on Davis Martin except for injury, which is understandable. His slider showed real promise as a put-out pitch. If his velocity breakout from last year is maintained, I think he's a good piece to have. Sean Burke better be getting ready though. Not much else.

I don't think his swing could kill a gnat so better hope is just that we get some babip good luck and at that point is defense is a huge multiplier. I mean honestly he's pretty much the billy hamilton version of the infield (less speed, greater contact equals it out)

I will highlight how good his defense is though. Yolmers best defensive season for the Sox was 2018 where he was a whiz at 3b and had a 10 OOA season. Nicky Lopez in 2021 had a 25 OOA season and last year was 14. This is guy is two times better than the best middle infielder we would all point to as the best we’ve had.

I don't think the double trade down is realistic. I think the one out of top 5 to circle would be carolina. To some extent, wouldn't be too opposed just because a) 9 to 1 would be a legitimate haul and b) I don't see carolina being great with a rookie QB. As much as I want this draft to be fun, having two potential top 15 picks next year is a must. Grass is always greener, but the offensive talent expected next year is tremendous. At 9, you can probably still get a very good edge or tackle. With edge being deep, probably go tackle. But you are trading out bird in the hand blue chip prospect for a next year one.

I think this comes down to whether you think you acquire lopez and believe he is full time starting 2b forever, or util infielder. He was a UTIl infielder this year (thats what was indicated) for the royals, so that's what I'm taking. People mentioned a platoon for 2b...well, hey offensively not amazing but this is close to that. And yes, having an elite defender to deploy to SS or 2b would be a first. Leury was versatile but was best in the outfield and only average to below in the infield. So if you could assume leury is just not there, you may assume that we trade leury with some extra goods for lopez so that they take the salary, we get the util infielder swap, and they get prospects. Who? i don't know, hopefully that is still just a project pop up arm. But it may be someone interesting like wilfred veras.

I am pro Lopez but the reality is it doesn’t do much good to hit lefty when you produce worse than pretty much every right handed hitter vs RHP. But yes, I think we desperately need a whiz. While someone like a Yolbert could provide shitty offense and plus d, I’ve never heard it at the level of what lopez has shown over the last few years.

That would bother me more if they had shown an ability of accurately scouting their own talent.

Gotta tell ya, there’s not much out there.

Really bad offensively but unlike Leury he is a truly great fielder and can play all three spots. But yeah this is why I wanted schoop who at least had a prayer of being good offensively.

I’m actually moving this into the “good move, if costs nothing” camp. He is a wonderful fielder and would love to have more assurances there.
