2nd Base I guess it’s going to be Sosa or Gonzalez?
bmags replied to AJ'S Cousin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree. Said before but I’m not big on fishing for offensive solutions from second base. If we stabilize it, I’d prefer it be for a plus defensive player (I’ve mentioned schoop as a cheap acquisition that can be moved on from easily) The good thing with Sosa is so don’t think there is anything bad about him playing AAA this year, but I am very excited for him. -

Sure would be nice if as part of fans spending on the shitty milb package they could get the trackman data for AAA games (not single game feeds, like the aggregate stats)

When he was making contact, he was in fact hitting the ball hard. Your first sentence is stupid, we aren’t comparing 4A players to the general population. Compared to other ball players in the big leagues, Romy hit the ball hard. If he truly can’t stop swinging at everything and has a 2% walk rate that he had for 100 at bats, then nothing matters. But I guess we’ll just have to add him to the list of Sox players who need an improved approach at the plate, which is a list that includes every player in the team. Or we could sign Josh Harrison, that’ll put us over the top. -

He hits the ball very hard. If other orgs have a player that hits the ball very hard and plays 6 positions they should see what they have as well. -

He should have really prevented the pandemic if he wanted to be taken seriously. -

I think I’d rather go after a very very strong defensive 2B than chase after 100 wRC+ I don’t think trading for schoop is worst idea -

Or perhaps There is a reason he chosen to be a primary DH rather than use much of his versatility. -

In just 26 attempts in the field last year, La Stella was -4 OAA. That… is unplayable -

Lastella is a DH at this point. I’m not interested. -
In an unbelievable turn of events, Josh mcdaniels relationship with his inherited starting QB has soured.

I think the individual scouting is really strong. I think this team really needs to have a top international program to overcome it all though and not sure it’s more than slightly above average since about 2018. But, it’s way better. Our first intl classes under paddy struggled to get out of Arizona. Now you have the penalty classes under Robert turning out players like Jose Rodriguez. It has really started churning out depth in a way it did not for years. Now with Mena, Vera we are seeing pitching depth too. Houston’s rotation is full of older, unsung pitchers. That has been Paddy’s waters for years. With better luck and player dev, we may see some movement there too. All good things, but if I was Hahn I’d give paddy a much bigger operation, he’s been the best return so far.

Rumor: TLR will (NOT*) be present for ST *update

“I think he’ll be around at spring training and at some point we’ll sit down and talk about the ball club”. Tony lives in Arizona. Damning, damning stuff. -

Regardless holy hell has Atlanta been good at negotiations. Look at how they were able to lock up players vs Nats across the division. Yeesh. -

I don’t understand why we are gobbling this rumor up as true. -
I wish some place like the athletic a bunch of pitchers about catchers not on their current team about which ones they most like to throw to. I’m about ready to throw out framing numbers, I just don’t care to look at a stat that puts Gary Sanchez as a top catcher. But given next years rule changes you’d think getting a rocket arm like alfaro would end up scooping him to a team but I’d imagine there is a reputation around his game calling and prep. But boy if there was a player for frank menechino it has to be Alfaro.

I had trouble hearing the name you all were talking about in the DSL who he said had a weird altuve like body, was that chappelli?
-
Legit one of the highlights of my Sox life (was there, lost my voice for 3 days)
-
I also think menechino got the job because of his work in Charlotte with Robert, who had a crazy swing and miss approach that he harnessed. I’m guessing more than one thought he was bringing hrniak-big hurt relationships to the team. But also you have a GM saying “ball go far, team go far” out one side of his mouth and also signing Josh Harrison, Adam Eaton and Leury to his offense.
-
I think it’s probably just that being a baseball hitter is an incredibly hard job, requiring constant deliberate practice that adjusts to the needs of how pitchers adjust to you, and no matter how advanced an org you came from it can atrophy pretty quick when removed from that environment. Menechino legitimately got a bunch of swing and miss types to hit for contact. Their approach was basically take advantage of pitches you think you can hit early to avoid getting in 2 strike counts, and then be defensive and don’t k. Pitchers responded by throwing sliders and off speed early in counts and Sox pitchers flailed grounders. They had no adjustment, were not prepared beyond that. Baseball is hard and a wonderful sport.
-
Hell yeah! I don’t know if you saw this but I applied the recent fangraphs article showing early, highly correlative data between hard hit rate and wRC+ over long term and romy came out sparkling
-
This was great. Love hearing a lot of plus makeup in the next group. Mena and Ramos sound like they’ll get out every ounce of talent they have
-
He has played pretty much every position in minors, range shouldn’t be a concern and I’d imagine a SS has a good arm. But if jumps are bad may hurt whatever plus range he has.
-
Another thing is just we focus so much on in game tactics from our managers, but your tactics will always be at a disadvantage when the players aren’t properly prepared. This coaching will help make sure when a pinch hitter comes in they aren’t just flailing wildly. Other pitchers and hitters are too good now. These tools are gonna help them execute against crazy 98 mph pitches that seem like they shoot up and into your hands. I also just think Romy is going to be an above average hitter today.
