  1. Sigh, long time fav of mine Jacob Amaya just got traded to marlins.
  2. oh nice, happy with it as a minor league deal.
  3. That movie made me make sure I could light a fire. I feel like I wouldn't have had as much problem as him with the coconuts though. The rope making was impressive, I'll give him that.
  4. I had to look up whether jazz was a nickname for chaz after all this but no, real name is Jasrado
  5. The way Ballard talking seems so foolish that I’m wondering if he’s instead going to try and use 4th overall for something like getting Baltimore to do a tag and trade for Lamar. Baltimore could trade back with Las Vegas and get Carr, and then plan on making a big trade up for a rookie the next year with likely colts + raiders additional firsts.
  6. it sucks because I loved kelly as a player and uh, getting him and him sucking makes it hard to remember why. But he had so many great moments in boston, st louis and LA.
  7. So Spielberger mentioned how the bears basically have to spend this year a similar amount to what Jax did last year. So just for an idea on what that looked like 1. Christian Kirk 4 for 72 2. Brandon Scherff 3 for 49 3. Foyesade Oluokun 3 for 45 4. Darious Williams 3 for 30 5. Foley Fatukasi 3 for 30 6. Zay Jones 3 for 24 7. Evan Engram 1 for 9 8. Arden Key 1 for 4 9. Adam Gotsis 1 for 1.4 10. Laquon Treadwell 1 for 1.1 11. Tre Herndon 1 for 1 12. Wyatt Ray 1 for 1 So it was a lot, though not that wild. My proposal would be a lot more than this. But a lot of the issue was Kirk getting so much more than people expected a slot receiver to get, the rest weren't that wild.
  8. There are sooo many good RBs in this FA class and Monty may not even be top 5. Fournette was the top back last year and got 3 for 21, with 9 million guaranteed. I have a hard time believing he beats that. I think he's more in the 2 for 14 territory
  9. I think you just don't want to make a colts or texans feel like you don't want to drop out of top five, and they need to be aware of a huge leap frog from like, commanders/jets
  10. Hey, as jim bowden said, you cannot rule Jerry Reinsdorf out
  11. That the team that had him last year and can least afford dead weight on their roster is apparently still ok with the deal they offered, that should be a sign.
  12. should also be a red flag that the marlins signed him.
  13. also he has no pass catching. I'm fine running back with him/monty since monty should be super cheap.
  14. that's fine, but ... it's worth considering that Jean Segura is going to be 33 and may already be in defensive decline after getting a nice bump from his move to 2b (FRAA had him negative last year after good ratings in 2020-21) . After being a model of availability, last year he was in only 98 games. So the idea that it's like, get segura, bank on stability. That's just not how we've seen things play out with these second contract FAs that we think sign reasonable deals with us. With schoop at least you could hope for offensive regression, and his defensive regression is coming down from one of the best years at second base in the last decade so at least we are finally getting a very good defender.
  15. Well that's the thing, I don't like hunting for average because then you tend to get below average in FA. Hahn always pays in FA to stabilize and ends up wasting a bunch of money that should be filled internally. In theory you can then bundle up that money for a difference maker, but that's so far from how the sox operate. Anyway I still think we should try to get Schoop for a song.
  16. Well, one of the reasons they've got it wrong was when they did not believe in their internal options and instead went hunting or 2 WAR guys while their player blossomed into an MVP candidate elsewhere. Lightning might not strike twice, but it is a consideration with Sosa.
  17. good stuff from PFF today, Brad Spielberger updated his top 50 FAs. Nice to get an updated list after Conklin/Jenkins were locked up. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2023-free-agent-rankings-free-agency A la Chisoxfn, I'd attack the following: 1. Daron Payne 2. Orlando Brown 3. Tremaine Edmunds - Poles believes in measurables, hard to discount here, also still only 25 which I'd guess we'd see the younger targets (why I also went Payne over Hargrave) 4. Marcus Davenport - oft-injured but if that resolves he has a high ceiling here 5. Ben Powers G - turned into a great pass blocker and we need more of that (also why I went Brown v. McGlinchey) 6. Ethan Pocic - C Likely Cut WR - Michael Thomas See the market: Tony Pollard/Saquon Barkely
  18. I actually agree with Chisoxfn here. I think you take the talent where it is. I'd target pollard if he actually becomes a FA, but Saquon is such a beast in the passing game. It would be interesting if Mike Thomas comes cheap (which...I mean he kinda should), as he'd be a perfect flyer for a team that can take a little more risk on. The other thing is the whole league has started to down grade RBs again after the Elliott/Gurley run, and I think that helps maintain his money at a low rate.
  19. https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2023-nfl-mock-draft-five-qbs-first-round-colts-trade-bryce-young first mock draft i've seen post draft order: Colts move up to 1 for Bryce Young, the Texans take Levis, and the Bears are able to still get Jalen Carter. Terms of the trade up aren't described here, but also notable that 4 QBs are taken in top ten. I think PFF is right here, and that Anthony Richardson eventually moves into top ten. The hedge on this is Malik Willis, who also had great skillset but was super raw and draft mocks way overrated how teams would view. But Richardson's tantalizing measurables I think push him into these teams that have been treading water with QBs like Carolina.
  20. This is a sad situation but this is a very funny post lol
  21. from the moment he was drafted it was like "yeah he's like not ready at all, can't do anything well, we're really excited about him". Traits are important and all but...
  22. I think this is wrong unfortunately. According to Courtney Cronin, he would have had to be with the Bears for 2 years and he's only been for 11 months.
  23. I agree I'd be guffawed if they gave up 12 for one spot, but it will really depend on where they are as an org. I think you see with others, you can get fatigued quick with absolutely nothing at QB which is what they and carolina have been at. I would just as soon go for stroud, but if you zero in on a guy you may just pay the price. OR they get andy dalton or pay for geno smith if the seahawks decide to go young there (which I extremely doubt).
  24. Spielberger has been harping on this: Not only do the bears have a lot of space, but because they have been below the mandated spending floor the last few years, they have to spend a lot of it. And while FA looks meh now, with teams like bucs, saints, rams that have been in win now mode for years, we may see many more guys available as they hit the reset button.
  25. I think an interesting dynamic is if teams trying to move up are more likely to try to give current year trade capital after seeing what happened to the Rams, Texans, Saints of recent years giving much higher picks than imagined. Obviously, it can be hard to get the amount of value you need in current draft, but maybe teams who feel they are a QB away may be less inclined to send many future picks. For example, I saw a tweet today saying bears get the texans 2 first round picks this year (2, 12), then trade back with seahawks for 5, 20. They'd end up with 5, 12, 20. But to me the ideal would be back for multiple future firsts, especially an atlanta, carolina who are unlikely to see a big leap with one.
