  1. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 08:50 PM) Detroit got a new kicker This was so f***ing cool
  2. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 04:23 PM) Still though, am I the only one who would be intrigued (or even ok) with such a pick? Certainly not at 20 as that's a bit of a reach but if they can manage to trade down and get him I would be absolutely thrilled with the potential identity as a big physical passing team. If they believe this guy is an upgrade over a current starter, then I fully stand by any pick they'll make like that. That said, I'd prefer a G or LB, but i have no idea whose available. I know nothing about college fball players beside that I thought Jarvis Jones was incredible last year and I dreamed of a LB like him.
  3. Great piece on WBEZ today on Emmanuel's proposed "mandatory minimums" for carrying an unauthorized weapon. Rec to listen: http://www.wbez.org/news/emanuel-pushes-ma...ffective-106621
  4. This is such a huge bummer. Really hoping Beckham could pull through, I'm guessing this is it.
  5. Agree with the pro-winning sentiments.
  6. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) Oh, I completely get it. I just find it shallow and nothing more than a dog and pony show. I understand your viewpoint, but dog and pony show and weddings go hand in hand.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 07:12 PM) That's not what I'm talking about, though. I mean the type of people who clamor for the Bears to hire (insert name of '85 player) here as a coach just because of the name even though they've got no actual coaching credentials. Or ignore the ones who have coached but actually have a strong track record of failure like Singletary and Rivera, and yes, even Ditka later on. Or, the ones who will intently listen to Jim McMahon's opinion on how Cutler is doing even though he is going senile and says he doesn't watch games... or the inane ramblings of Gale Sayers, who doesn't follow the team either (I know Sayers isn't an '85 Bear, but it's the same phenomenon). I want to ban all these people from the internet and any interaction with the media. Exactly this.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) Were you alive in 1985? If so, how old were you? -6 mos.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) I always feel terrible when I reference 2005 regarding recent White Sox success, even though that was almost 10 years ago. Then I remember that it could be worse. It's kind of interesting to me as I get older. When I was young, 30 years prior seemed crazy long. That would have been mid-60s, but it was still like 50% of the references people made. Now I think of simpsons episodes and realize they are like 24 years old at this point and it seems like only a few. So I get it now, 2005 doesn't seem like that long ago (honestly 2007 seems longer to me than 2005), but man. At some point people need to get over the 85 bears because it seems to make our terrible success since that time easier to take.
  10. I think you are right, we'll see Kepp at 2nd and Gillaspie at 3rd. I'm glad it wasn't that serious on Beckham but hopefully this doesn't mean an atrocious first half from him due to injury.
  11. I'm glad we are still bringing everything back to 85 bears, only 30 years later.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 03:54 AM) election nights are a lot more stressful when you are related to the candidate. You are related to mongo mc michael?
  13. Nice shutout by emery.
  14. Read title and thought "I thought we were playing the Nationals." Yep, that kinda day.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 05:40 PM) Tyrus Thomas is such a huge waste of talent. He actually did put in some work, though, and seemed to be at least kind of self-aware and accountable for himself. But like you said, Thibs seems to have some kind of ability to reach players that other coaches don't have. Off topic, was always funny to me in NBA2k12 how the computer would always have Thomas leading the bobcats in scoring and rebounding. I think that year he barely found the floor.
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 05:02 PM) Well who are you guys suggesting? I assume that we can all agree that if 21 year old Michael Jordan is available the Bulls should draft him, but given that we are in 2013 and the bulls are going to have to select from the players who are available in this class, who exactly is so much better? Is it Jamaal Franklin? Worse shooter and more turnovers? Maybe a guy like Doug McDermott falls, but then you have an entirely different set of questions. This draft just looks really poor on paper. It's an awful draft. Honestly, I was all for tanking, but this was a really bad draft to tank for anyways. To me, none of the guards available to the bulls will do anything more than add depth, so I don't really care, but if we are going to add a SG that is similar to what we've had past 4 years, i'd rather try and hoard more PF/C depth.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 05:48 PM) How's Hardaway not talented though? Great athlete, would be good value at #20. Or wherever the Bulls pick. I forget. I'm crossing them with the Bears in my head. I'm not saying he's not talented, but I think it's not hard to find a talent like hardaway. Oh great, an athletic drive oriented player that can't shoot. That totally helps solve our problems!
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 05:27 PM) Serious Q: Can Thibs fix him? Wouldn't you just prefer we get better talent? We have enough of a project for thibs in Teague.
  19. While I'm not even bothering to watch basketball now, (maybe lakers locking down 8 will be interesting?), whomever the nuggets face in first round is going to be interesting. There will be some really fun Western conference matchups in playoffs. East will be just terrible.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 03:18 PM) I think the Sox were a big cause of that. Cub fans didn't seem to care if they lost until the Sox won the World Series. Now I see more angry Cub fans than I can ever remember. You may be right. Pre-WS and a little bit post - WS that cubs sox series was everything. Now part of it may be oversaturation (it was relatively new), but I think more of it has to do with bragging rights. That was all the city really had for baseball competitiveness and both teams were pretty good in early 00s. After the WS, I think both fans re-adjusted to really only caring about winning in the playoffs.
  21. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) I don't know about anyone else but I've been saying the same thing for years. Win consistently and the fans will show up. This average of making the playoffs once every 5 years just doesn't cut it. It's really not hard to compare attendance with playoff appearances. It shot up in 2005 and even more in 2006. It's gone consistently down since then. That one and done in 2008 didn't really help much when they backed it up with 4 straight years of missing the post-season. The die-hards will show up no matter what but the band-wagoners just want to follow a winner. They don't know or care what place the team was in on Sept 1 of last year. They only remember where the team finished. I think one that has actually hurt the sox is the cubs fall from grace. Even when they were really bad after 03, the 2 great seasons they had in that time kept the interest of cubs fans. The past few years the cubs fans have been completely disinterested, and around town you can just tell baseball is not grabbing a lot of attention. I really don't like this thread, but I'll admit I was a bit depressed that we weren't drawing in september in the lead of a division race.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) I like that British politics doesn't have this fake deference that we do here. When Reagan died there was this bizarre frozen silence and nobody would dare speak ill of him for some designated amount of time (Reagan has an entire cottage industry dedicated to pumping up his legacy, but that's another topic). In London people just openly cheer it. They won't criticize Thatcher here, either, they just say "she was a controversial figure" and leave it at that. Reagan is without a doubt way less controversial and way more popular than Thatcher was. Especially now, you have a democratic president who praises him, and so the youth don't realize the divisions that were occuring in the 80s at home. On the other hand, I really couldn't stand having to act like we needed to respect Jesse Helms when he died.
