Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 09:11 AM) Point stands though that while Bulls' management has done a solid job, the reason this team will be a perennial 60-plus-win team is because of the "lucky" lottery balls. And so you can consider us just as unlucky for being the worst team in the league during the terrible 99-02 drafts, and then getting just good enough to miss out on the incredible 03 draft. The nba is all about luck in the draft.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 06:15 PM) The NBA also has twice as many playoff teams. I just don't think you can look to Jerry's handling of the bulls as an example as to why he's bad for the sox. The bulls are a pretty well run franchise.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 05:21 PM) You have absolutely no guarantees this rebuilding is going to somehow turn the Sox around for the better. You only have to look to Madison Avenue and recall this owner's last attempt at rebuilding. Took over a decade for the Bulls to be viable again - and that was with near capacity crowds every game. He won't be getting that at the Cell. But Sox fans are comfortable with prolonged periods of mediocrity - to the delight of this owner. It's Madison Street, and it only took 5 years to get back to the playoffs, which wasn't that long considering the complete dismantling after 1998. We were essentially an expansion team.

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 08:44 PM) Where did I say anything to the contrary? I asked "Boot PSU for what?" I never mentioned the 1st amendment, its not even govt action how could the 1st amendment apply? I already previously stated this wasnt a freedom of speech argument. I merely asked the question, Why should PSU be booted for players having an opinion? And followed it with a flippant remark about restricting peoples opinions. Because if former penn state players and students start making headlines about how unfairly the school that saw a child rape scandal is being treated, because they hired a new coach they didn't want, and other schools start feeling like their image is being derailed because of their conference association, then yes, they can act. But you seem to think everything happens in a vacuum. They are symbols of penn state. When they speak, people think "this is how penn state fans/administrators must feel". And considering how whiney and incredibly stupid it is, yes, i continue to think less and less of that program. As do many across the country.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) For assistant coaches I don't believe that matters. I might be wrong but I know the Bears were able to block Tice from interviewing with the Titans for an OC job. Teams are not able to block assistants for interviewing as a head coach though. I know teams have gotten around stuff before by adding assistant head coach to their titles.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) I guess Cutler has recommended the Titans QB coach but it sounds like Munchack absolutely loves him and no one expects the Bears to get permission for what would be a lateral move in title (although the Bears job will be more hands on and give him more experience). There are also indications the Bears would be all over Koetter but everyone expects him to go to Atlanta, assuming he is let go from Jacksonville. One interesting thing I saw for oline coach was ex-Bear Andy Heck. I wonder if there's something we can do to jazz up the title that would make it a promotion.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) Entertaining game. The announcerns I had kept talking about how Portland has wanted to trade Wallace since they got him. He'd be nice on the Bulls since he can actually create offense and get to the line. Crawford was on fire. Him and Deng would be somewhat redundant. But holy s*** we could have a great "bigs lineup" of Rose, Deng, Wallace, Boozer, and Noah. Subsitute Taj...and try to score a single bucket.

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 06:11 PM) And people have the right to react to that. That whole freedom of speech thing works both ways. Thank you. Freedom of speech has nothing to do with how individuals react to each other, or private institutions. It has to do with how governments react to individuals or private institutions. Arrington and all the idiots at penn state are allowed to huff and puff about how terrible they are being treated (such as having a different coach hired) for their program covering up child rape. But if it starts to affect the league around them, they are allowed to act. This is america.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) Jay isn't Peyton Manning or Tom Brady or Drew Brees....he strikes me more as the type of guy that needs to be coachable instead of the kind of guy that needs to help coach. You really have no basis for this.

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) Correct me if Im wrong, but so far there have been no accusations that any player or Bradley participated in a cover up or rape. And they haven't been punished. Oh, except for them hiring a talented coach from outside their tainted program. Talk about tone deaf. You should start a PR firm for adopted victims of crisis.

Penn State horror story
Outside of Sandusky (one of the most brutal scandals to ever hit college football) ... Yeah, sucks that players take money from boosters or don't go to class, but that pales in comparison to child rape and cover up. You can't blame them for going after a fresh start with a talented coach.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 06:07 PM) This doesn't happen without it being run by Jay Cutler. I have a feeling he and Tice have had more than a few discussions on how they'd like to see things done in a non-Martz world. I expect to see Cutler's vast talents utilized moving forward. Totally agree. I think this is the year we see the Cutler offense.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 05:21 PM) That quote was talking about software, not unopened dvds. I'd be hard pressed to find a place that happily lets customers return open software. That's been the norm for ages. That article about the fall of Best Buy was just b****ing about bad customer service. Next article that guy writes should be about the demise of Wal-Mart then. What an asshat. And I agree about the 0%. Also, is Amazon going to be able to show me the picture quality of HD televisions? There's no way I'd buy a tv online without seeing it vs at Best Buy who will pricematch anyway. That article was s***. Walmart can justify bad customer service with keeping employee costs low and thus their prices low. Best buy can't. You notice when a place is thriving or on the verge of death. Even when crowded, walking into a best buy now you can just tell that it's dying. The fact that I had a hard time finding a cheap keyboard for a mac that wasn't a hello kitty keyboard, when i could go to target and get one easily is a testament to this fact. They just don't provide anything easily. I don't have time for their bulls***, mostly.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 04:44 PM) I think they were smart enough to know that no one would want to be the OC under a lame duck coach. I disagree, I thought that this would happen for a long time. It keeps some continuity for cutler in language, and it's clear that the team really liked Tice, and want to give him the shot. I think Tice is a tremendous coach and I think if he succeeds here he should get another shot at OC. Obviously the moss rule failed for everyone, but I like the fact that he was so open to looking for those tendencies and working them in.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 04:44 PM) So Tice will call running plays and someone else will call passing plays? I think it's more likely they will design the passing offense with him, but he will call the plays.
