Mark Jackson did a quick switch and was very critical of Lebron. I wonder if being a coach now, he wants to point out all the ways the heat screw other teams.

I love footnotes. They are things that add a lot of insight, but can really cut down on the flow. So you allow people to make the choice. Some people use them to awesome effect.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) Can of worms, opened. Tacos, Gyros, Pizza, straight up breakfast are all in contention. Big Star tacos. win. Also a good burger if you can find it. But yeah, greektown used to be my go-to but now it's too far.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 07:14 PM) Damn, I wish I was still in Urbana. A lot less people there right now for summer school and two Jimmy Johns close by. JJ's the best super late night food. That's an argument waiting to happen. But it's false. Mexican food trumps all for late night.

Illinois enacts Internet sales tax law
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 07:15 PM) Direct cost? A decent chunk, not a ton. In terms of human capital? They'd be permanently screwed. I'm actually interested in the direct cost. They'd at the very least offer a pretty decent relo package. But yeah, no f***in way i'd ever move to indianapolis unless someone tripled my pay.

Illinois enacts Internet sales tax law
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) Depends on if they stay because they get money or not. The cost of doing business in the state of Illinois is the problem at the center of all of this. The CME's taxes are 9.5% now in Illinois. In Indiana they would be 6.5% now, so they would save even more than the $50 million increase they just saw. If the State of Illinois comes up with a package that saves them a good chunk of that money, then their number one complaint is solved. Why should they move at that point. How much would it cost to actually move their company to indianapolis

I don't mind wade because he plays hard and risks his body. He also doesn't ham it up for the crowd as much as lebron. I love that derrick rose is an awesome individual, but i'd still love him if he was only really dedicated on the court.

More like Jamal Crawford. Where he's just standing there and acting like he's playing d, but really isn't going to move at all.

The happening was terrible in every aspect. Eberts film made me want to see it very much. He called it a cross between the goonies and a modern sci fi flick, which sounds awesome to me.

We have very high hours worked, especially compared to the Nordic countries, and pretty much above every European country except for Italy.

Education bubble?
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) To be fair this is actually how a lot of other countries run their secondary schools. Kids get tracked early on into college or vocational. I took their comments as saying they would be thrown out of school.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) There's something about Garfein's face, his facial expressions, his attitude, that has always irritated me. definitely. I think he thinks he's better than his job suggests.

Education bubble?
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) So what's your solution in Tex' scenario? Where everything is already in place to give the kid a chance at an education, even more so than the average student. But at the end of the day the student doesn't want to be there. Throwing more money into the school system isn't gonna change that. So what's your solution? And how can you honestly think that other distractions don't play a part in this? I'm not sure, as to tex's part. Throwing them out certainly would probably improve the rest in the classroom, but it also creates a huge barrier for that student. I'm not sure whether it is considered throwing money at them. I imagine those drop outs become a high percentage of those we consider burdens to the state. There have been success stories with alternative schools created by community peer groups for dropouts and disruptive students that have been controversial in theory, but beneficial in practice. And I'm not saying other distractions don't play a part in it, but I do consider focusing on those useless. Unless we are going to ban video games and cell phones, I don't see how that should be the focal point. This study shows that it aims to insert teachers into the culture of the neighborhood too. I'm mindful of what Tex said about how much we expect out of teachers, but if there are problems at home focusing a group of teachers to disrupt those patterns is an interesting idea.

Anyone see chuck garfien's post-game interview with Humber. He basically laughed in Humber's face about how he was released so many times. (Haha, sure you were "DFA'd" hahahaa." Humber: dead faced)

Education bubble?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 03:41 PM) But at 12-16, are they not at crucial ages for learning concepts necessary for high school and college? they are, that's why I don't like the "kick them out if they don't want to be there."

Education bubble?
QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) We could also recognize that teaching doesn't trump parenting. And that some things are parent's responsibility. Instead, because teaching is a paid position and aprenting is not, we place all the expectations on education. How should we regulate parenting tex? I'm open to it. BUt I have a problem with being so dismissive of kids who aren't doing well at 12-16 years old at school. Even if they are doing it to themself at that age, I'm not sure how much weight we should put on that, because at that point the child is not going to achieve anything in life. We've seen the charts of unemployment for those without high school employment.
