  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 06:59 AM) Or they were told by the front office to talk him up big because they want to up his trade value If people listened to hawk harrelson for impressions on who to trade for Carlos Gomez would land albert pujols.
  2. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 05:35 AM) Funny because I keep thinking that Nixon was far more liberal than any President we've had in the last 30 years. But radical President, who keeps doing things like forcing Republicans to vote against their own proposals... right. History doesn't really matter to kap. The only thing that matters is that he hits his quota of stupid s*** to type for the day.
  3. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 06:02 AM) i was there too and thought it looked more full than that. There was a discount though group-on for that game (that is how we got our tickets + pregame patio) so maybe that could factor in. doesnt seem like it should though because monday was 1/2 price and they still announced a sell out of over 38000 they still get money from Groupon. That shouldn't affect attendance numbers.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 07:55 PM) You can show me a million numbers and statistics and it won't mean anything to me. bible don't say nothin bout no dinosaurs
  5. If I would've guessed what dan hudson would net us...I would have been really bein conservative with jackson. mehrsf
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) Of the 220 players with at least 250 PA this season our DH ranks 202nd in OPS. Oh and he's 273rd in AVG with RISP (min 50 PA), yes that's the worst in baseball. Kotsay is reaching epic levels of bad. that's actually better than I thought.
  7. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) I liked how with both homers Castro paused to admire the towering power blasts they were. Even if you had the sound turned down (because you knew from the sound they were long gone), you could watch his body language and know he cranked them. he looked so comfortable against that left hander. It looked like he was in the home run derby those two at bats. Just f'n killed them.
  8. well yeah. There is a huge difference between the operations of huffpo and tpm then pajamas media, etc. The former seem to want to go back to 19th century ideological newspapers, but newspapers, the others are just hit and run commentators.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) That was the one counterexample I thought of...but even though they did a crappy, crappy job of it...they actually did take some steps to try to authenticate the documents they had before running with them. They took their documents to a "handwriting expert" (who turned out not to be one). They took their documents to a staffer who worked with the person that supposedly originally produced them, and that staffer said the guy in question "agreed with the sentiments in those memos" but she couldn't specifically vouch for the authenticity of them. That's a hell of a lot more than Breitbart/Fox did. also their entire production dept. got the boot. When Breitbart does that... edit: it should be mentioned that people WERE raising concerns in the CBS editorial dept. and were being ignored. That producer deserved to get the boot.

    2010 Summer TV Thread

i didn't like the first 20 minutes, everything was way too snappy and happy. But I love when Don throws temper tantrums when he screws up. I wonder how his new newspaper article will play with the others. On the other hand, maybe he felt it was fine after what peggy said.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) The NPS generally has very good staff. They get 10 times more applications than they have positions in good times, more in bad. Jobs like that, there are always passionate people who WANT to do the job, so you get a lot of good people who you don't have to pay a ton of money for. Shiloh? When I was loving in Tennessee, I had a buddy who was a teacher and a history buff. He was a "Sergeant" in the 37th Tennessee regiment that did re-enactments, and he convinced me to tag along on one. Dressed the part, did the marches and the battle simulations, the whole bit, over a weekend at Shiloh. Great experience, even for a Yankee, though it was a little weird dressing with the grey coats. traitor.
  14. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) I just spent a week along the Natchez Trace Parkway with side trips to Vicksburg and Shiloh National Military Parks. These are all run by the National Park Service (Government employees). From the early phone calls when we began planning the trip to being on the site, customer service was first class. All the information was delivered via my very friendly and efficient postal carrier. The parks were very well maintained, the interpretive presentations were well produced and delivered. I have also recently had to contact Social Security twice on matters and both times my questions were answered quickly and completely with additional information mailed to me. I will also admit, while the IRS was shoving an audit and tax lien up my ass, they too did it in a professional and timely manner. Shall I also mention our military? While we may agree or disagree about their missions, they are the best in the world. I know it is easy to talk about how our government employees suck, but I believe they are much like the private sector. Some may be better than others, but overall, I think they do a fine job. the workers at rocky mountain NP were amazing.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) Yeah, but the Bulls never had a chance to grab any of those 3 free agents. These 3 guys were set to go to Miami way before free agency started and there was nothing the Bulls could have done to convince them differently. that doesn't mean they nailed free agency though.
  16. i think this is a good team but nailing this offseason probably would be applied to not losing out on the biggest 3 free agents of the last 10 years and having them all go to a single other team that will beat the s*** out of everyone, including your team, for the foreseeable future.
  17. there was a mother jones issue last year on the environment that had like 10 great articles, the highlight being the nuclear energy article.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) Scientific American had an interested article in this month's issue computing CO2 emmissions for various automotive technologies. They compared All-Electric, Plug-in Hybrids and gas-electric hybrids. In a lot of regions, you ended up with less emmissions, but in the Illinois/ Indiana/ Ohio areas, you actually ended up with more emissions for all-electric and plug-ins than a regular car. It's behind a subscription wall: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article....plug-in-hybrids so is this because we use more coal so substituting doesn't change much? What accounts for it.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) And you've got the popular Democratic idea, that we should spend more in good times because we have the money, and more in bad times because we need the money, which is recipe for eventual financial wreck. I think you should look at the last 30 years, and see which party has created large deficits during years of growth.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) The ONLY reason you say this is because I said it. If you would have, it would be the most profound thought you ever had. Give it a rest. The entire point is these people spend to their budget even if they don't have to. It's why they can't find $34 billion to cut to pay for unemployment. PAYGO, oh wait, we can't do that, because then we'd actually have to work at it. Congress is a bunch of sackless wimps whose sole justification is their own power, f*** what the people want. i wouldn't have said it. That's why i'm capable of profound thoughts and you are capable of typing. You know why the deficit has exploded the past 24 months? It has something to do with another thing that starts with an r and ends with an n
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) Big deal. Speaking as a person who gets ahold of his Congress-people on a regular basis for official business type reasons, (for things like radio/web interviews, and for personal issues) they don't get back to people like us anyway. Its not like I would notice a difference. speaking as someone who also does this, and who recently saw a 1 year fight to get my brothers wife her green card resolved in 1 month after contacting Senator Durbin, I disagree.
