QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 11:42 PM) oh yeah... I also hate Twitter and its effect on Modern America. thread is full of taking the lowest common denominator and proposing it as the sole virtue. twitter is fantastic.

I've lived in multiple places and wanna go with/wanna come with is said in every one.

I just have to say I completely disagree with all of your opinions and you should consider changing them. I don't like how much beer costs at North Ave. Beach.

But the media looks so cool at the WHCD! They bring celebrities cause they are really hip!

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) Quite frankly, I don't give a rats as* what Bill in Baltimore thinks about the economy. But then neither will anyone else. There's no obligation to read what everyone is publishing. The potential of the internet is the true "marketplace of ideas". I, personally, think the analysis and dynamic writing of the blogosphere will provide as good of journalism as newspapers did. The reaction of "I just want to know what happened, not to know what to think" perspective is strange, arguments and analysis are just as important to look at with critical thinking as normal reports. And so we also get these fascinating debates, such as what happened with Manzi (which i will look for the link), where a bit of analysis led across a huge debate across many blogs. No one person was right, and it's up to critical thinking to decide your own views. BUt, if not for blogs and Harper's, who the hell would be covering the gitmo suicides? No network or anyone is covering it. Edit: It looks like sullivan had a pretty good link to 4 peoples reactions in the debate here: Chait v. Manzi It was an analysis of whether social democracies in Europe came at the cost of a share in world economic power.

You know, the mariners had pretty great pitching and defense last year, and they didnt win a ring. you know why? Their offense is attrocious. WORSE THAN OURS EVEN! (amazing!)

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) It's a bit scary that this organization has embraced the concept of entering almost every season with a gaping hole in their lineup. A hole that's going to have to be fixed eventually, and will cost this team games. Why go into the season with a full lineup when you can go in with a partial one, possibly lose good prospects at the deadline to make up for your mistake, when you could have just signed a guy for 2 mill. in the offseason? I mean, why? This is such a better plan! Thanks ozzie

I'm not just going to blame the internet. Look at the WaPo editorial page.

My support for the public option was pragmatic. Cost of health insurance needed to have downward pressure, a public option could do this. It would also allow affordable insurance to go along with the mandate. And further, though i dont give a damn if AETNA burns to the ground, most every country that has this type of reform still has private insurance. BUt nonetheless, this bill did a helll of a lot to make more affordable individual insurance, which would make it a hell of a lot easier to start your own business or move from a job without worrying about health care. It also did a lot to cover many americans, and also did as much as it was possible to start controlling costs. But please, continue to bankrupt us, baby boomers, you've proven to be such a forward-looking generation. Thank you soooo much.

QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 07:43 PM) Kotsay has the contact skills and glove that Thome simply doesn't have. It's time to say goodbye the all-or-nothing power and walks that just set up a double play for the next hitter. Uhhh, then you replace the next hitter, not the guy that gets on base.

By the way this is the stupidest off-season since 2007. Pray we dont get the same result.
-
QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) Kotsay @ 34>>>>>>>>>Thome @ 39/40 and its not even close in my opinion yeah, even in age kotsay puts up lower numbers.

i woke up late today, and I haev to imagine its due to the heaviness of the stupid health care debate and this stupid ruling. If only the government could take away money from rich people and put it into coin form and throw them at me to wake me up

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 05:19 AM) Because a corporation is an artificial entity to begin with there need to be some limitations on this... I'd feel a lot better if Congress passed some kind of legislation (they won't). But, technically doesnt this say they can't pass legislation? DO we need a constitutional amendment?
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 05:22 AM) We could force people to vote, but if they can't even be bothered to vote on their own, could you imagine who they'd elect if you made them? Ugh. Although in a lot of cases it's not like you can really be that much worse. Hell, James Inhofe seems to be comfortable in his seat. This is truly terribl idea, it is the law in brazil and i find it disgusting. They just make lip service to the poorest, and since they are forced to vote, they vote for those making lip service even though ALLknow they are lying and then but so what, they have to vote.
-
pathetic ozzie.

I wonder a constitutional amendment could pass for this? I can't imagine that many who'd oppose?

So we are claiming the dude in charge of the web site that predicted the general election with shocking accuracy is just a biased pollster?
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 01:44 AM) I was reading 538 yesterday, he was predicting a Coakley win haha but i agree, Brown is not going to be a lock step GOP conservative. dude, i read 538 for the past 8 weeks, silver was NEVER, EVER confident about any of the polls or what was happening in MA. Special elections are impossible to poll for. He also "predicted" NY23 going republican. Neither of them, however, did he express even weak confidence.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 12:39 AM) I beleive some of the disclosure requirements on places like the Chamber still survived, but Thomas argued against it. Could be wrong; only just now reading up on the decision, was working all day for once. from what I understand, you just need to donate millions to the chamber, and the chamber can then put it wherever, without disclosing who the money came from.
