  2. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 08:30 AM) I didn't see the game; is that real? The shot is held so long that it looks fake. Probably should result in a suspension just for the sheer fact that it was seen coast to coast. On that clip he is not playing it at full speed.
  3. Javy was makin me angry because he was pitching scared all game. Then Ozzie comes out to talk to him and he serves a meatball to Dlee. Alexei had a friggen awesome game today.
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) I thought that here was more of an example of interpreting/reinforcing the Constitution where it hadn't been before which is basically their job, just they're not always going to agree. As far as judicial activism I think the eminent domain from a couple years ago was a better example since the majority basically changed the meaning of a word so they could change the definition of the law entirely, and interpret it however they wanted, seemingly arbitrarily. I disagree, this isn't that different than interpreting/reinforcing the consitution by saying the 4th amendment and such ensures a right to privacy.
  5. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 06:00 AM) They make money from live gigs. Very few artists hit it big from their record sales. The biggest tell of this was when "Oink" got shut down. You had artists come out and admit they were members of the site, then scream bulls***. Most bands/artists are lucky to make enough out of album royalties to pay their light bill. Most of the bands complaining about piracy already have stuffed pockets, and they just want more. And yet, there are a number of bands that do make good money from album sales, not supporting the RIAA. Radiohead gave their last album away for free, for instance. The RIAA knows they have a lot to lose, and they do, but music doesn't. not for free, for whatever you wished to pay... so for me...$1.80 but I also bought the album in stores. I payed $5.00 for girl talk.
  6. Let's not be irrational though and act like the only factor in gun violence is gun bans or no gun bans.
  7. welcome to Chicago!!!
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) People tend to vote for their own personal interests rather than what's good for the country, I guess. if what I said was not what you intended, then your statement was still pretty loaded.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 01:25 AM) My problem with this ruling is that they didn't say where the line would be, it just seems completely arbitrary (even though they cited all the states' laws) It takes a lot for them to make a test to follow or a line in the sand. It's very frustrating.
  10. reading the majority and the dissent, this was a very interesting ruling with two GREAT writings. Scalia has some of the best written opinions, and Stevens dissent was equally as interesting. Although, I still have the impression that Roberts and Alito are just schills.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) People tend to vote for their own personal interests rather than what's good for the country, I guess. personal interests is an excellent way to vote. When people say they aren't voting for obama because he will raise taxes, I have no argument and am completely in agreement that is how they should vote. Were they to say, because he's a Muslim, that would be much stupider of a reason. And also that reason could be more argued that they are voting that way because they think a Muslim would be bad for the country. So I disagree with your statement as being a bad way to vote.
  12. I don't know that the GOP is 90% white, but the voting #'s for blacks I believe is overwhelmingly democrat. 80%? in 04?
  13. He would say the most ignorant, stupid crap and the only thing that would happen was he'd get 'who you crappin' call outs on B&B. He was awful and his terrible tangents and completely uninformed and stupid political dialogue that he forced on the listeners was ridiculous.
  14. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) No, there doesn't need to be. But notice how every industry has an association? And I still believe looking around at companies (not individuals) who are making millions off of your products without paying a fee, seems like a logical step that an industry group would take. Well, perhaps they should embrace the inevitability that they can't stop this. So many companies and industries right now realize the tremendous marketing power FREE has. They just need to find out what to sell with the music to make profits.

even hillary voters would agree that is the most appropriate usage of the word b****. BTW, Obama is backing the bill even though he opposes part of it...that sumb****
  16. I disagree on some things you are saying kapkomet. I think in a lot of ways support of the democrat is support in a Middle East foreign policy with no escalation unless a change in circumstances. With McCain there is a worry there will be another Iraq opened up on a country, with the democrats there is an assurance that these policies won't continue under them. On FISA, the scary thing was that they weren't supporting it that gung ho. There is no reason they should've compromised, I think they just pushed the issue to put the GOP in another scandal, but I don't think many democrats disagreed. They were acquiescing to the very influential left-wing bloggers like dailyKOS imo. For months, behind the scenes, Hoyer has been making this compromise. It's clear the dem's never had any interest in this. BUt, yes, I agree for the most part. They back down way to easily for fear of being 'soft'. I can understand, it's been their achilles heel for 25 years, but, I don't care for it. But, my support for Sen. Feingold couldn't have been higher. If he ever falls my political optimism will fall with him.
  17. When we got Dye he had a pretty proven record of slow starts and heating up in summer. With us he's been more consistent but knowing that when we signed him I haven't been too worried of a Dye slow start. (even though I don't feel he had that poor of a start this year)
  18. Because they have no backbone. They probably see that this can be turned around on them as "look they don't want to protect you from terrorists", and for some reason, they feel they can't win the argument over following the law and the constitution with the American people. And maybe they can't, but I don't know how they can stand themselves in 30 years and realize they were the one's that were responsible for warrantless wiretaps. I'm ALL FOR wiretapping terrorists and potential terrorists, but the courts were already passing these out easily anyways. Why completely circumvent an obstacle set in place to prevent gross abuse in the future? If FISA courts are taking too long, see to it that they can process the warrants faster, don't just make it legal for no warrants. And don't just give a free pass to companies to do whatever they want as long as the president said it was okay. This is not our country.
  19. for all republicans on this site, if you want to continue your pat on the back club of "oh well obama can do no wrong with you" in regards to me, I'm deeply disappointed in his weak move on FISA. A disgusting typical insecure democrats move to try and not appear weak on national sec. Well, far be it of me to expect LAW to still exist in a war on anything.
  20. god bless em, true V.I.P.'s to me. EVERYONE MAKE A FUSS TO THEIR SENATORS SO THEY CAN'T GET 60 TO CLOTURE
  21. Oh, poor RIAA, the poor, lazy, incompatible to the new millenium RIAA trying to hang on desperately to an old inferior business model by suing everyone in sight. Huh, they used to pay radiostations to pay their songs illegally, now they want to sue them for paying their songs? We are talking about the dumbest industry in the world. The one that gone stupid by their own greed, would be paying 450 grand in bad music videos and millions in marketing before a band would even record an album and would be in debt for many before they'd get their star just to break even. They deserve no sympathy. They are protecting no intellectual rights. Thankfully, now bands hold their destiny in their own hands. Bye bye capitol records.
  22. The demise will be beautiful.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) If you want to flat out enjoy yourself for just under two hours, go rent "Be Kind Rewind." It's rated PG-13, but I see no reason why a family couldn't enjoy it together. The wife and I rented it this weekend, and it's just flat out enjoyable. Not only are the film re-enectments hilarious, but the movie also has a great story. It helps that I adore Jack Black, but you'll like this one a lot even if you don't. I'll probably give it another spin before returning it, it's that good. a Michael Gondry film.
