I can believe there are still some underrated effects of the pandemic year for this group, especially with so many of the write-ups I read knocking them for failure of development of another pitch or something there. They lost a year, could be it. They had to re-build stamina. Obviously, that same stuff can be applied to last year but last years group also had a ton of depth from what happened the year before, and maybe losing freshman year of college turns out to be worse than sophomore year. That said, would go for hitting too, but the "worst draft class" thing I can see being off in a few years for this reason.

k clearly the sox would screw up a similar situation but I'll just point out Thome's resume isn't that different, it's basically the same, as Rocco Baldelli's.

Thome worked with Davidson to get his mind right and a couple of our prospects. If he's game with managing players and not acting like an observational analytics genius, then it's fine.

He's been on special assignments, and if he worked closely with Front Office analytics for strategy and just handled the players it would be fine. Super star managers are dead.

This team needs someone being competent to be a role model.

KW is very jerry angeloey and maybe we look back too fondly because he screwed that team over so badly by not investing in it. But the draft rules were made so much more favorably under Hahn. Same with INTL. And at LEAST for KW you can point to their Major League scouting and org Strength Development and Health as components of the org that were legitimately league leading. But also the guy let go of Jim Thome for Mark Kotsay, and went after Manny Ramirez and killed that 2010 team (the most fun non-sox playoff team of all time). My struggle with this is I don't want Hahn making decisions right now. This is gonna be like Stan Bowman trading for Seth Jones.

JR should see the silver lining here. He felt terrible for firing TLR all those years ago, he gave him another shot at redemption, and actually it just validated JR's initial move that TLR sucks.
