  1. Braves modeling must be real bad for them to look at the nl east flailing and still be like "we are too injured to do this"
  2. notice how some of these teams are trying to upgrade places they were even adequate in. Can't stand when teams "improve" by going from below average to average production.
  3. Mark Shapiro can do this trade because he knows he can continue to bring talent in through draft and international. Common thread I see, personally.
  4. Glad the white sox are still working.

"Oh is DSL not playing today? Oh no just getting no-hit"

Every team in the league had to deal with it but for where they were in the process the sox losing 55 draft picks from what they may have been expecting in 2019 seems to really taken a toll on their low level pitching especially.
  7. They should, yes, but the angels.
  8. I feel like the angels aren't going to sell and are really going to do the "well when we get trout back!"
  9. I enjoy when people take arguments made across a number of different people, or perhaps the same argument made over and over by the same person, create a single person named "the board" which they can own over and over. The board always has a dumb argument you can point to if you need. We are all so much smarter than the board.
  10. tray post in 20 minutes: "The yankees pocket was picked by the cubs, all for the worthless rizzo. Jokes on the yankees, the cubs already expected to pay rizzos salary, and get two prospects instead? Yes Please!"
  11. What sign have we seen that the white sox are willing to take on salary to lighten the load?
  12. I wonder if Texas settles on Gibson now that gallo is officially gone. Less pretense for immediate competition.
  13. I was talking about Andrew McCutcheon obviously
  14. considering Story's season to date, I think it's unlikely they were offered much and yeah, the pick is probably better. (but what if story takes the QO)
  15. There's going to be plenty of playing time for Engel. But getting a guy with positional versatility would be nice. Maybe someone who was a former MVP.

re: Cespedes It's hard to keep in mind how long a layoff this guy had. He is showing more of the power than he ever did in Cuba, so that's good scouting. But for me to really care, eventually he'll need to really tear shit up. He's doing fine in W-S. Maybe considering the layoff, he's great. But considering the scouting reports are much more meh from James Fox and Fangraphs than what we may have expected when he first signed, and the fact that he's 23 in A+, I just want to see him really dominate one of his levels before I think "he's a piece that could be a future RFer". But in his last year in Cuba he had a 70 ISO. So far, he has a 189 ISO in WS. So the power gains seem real. But he is striking out 30% of the time and has a 45 to 4 walk to K ratio. His OBP looks better because he's been hit 8 times!
  17. Watching the best teams in baseball all gear up to try and be the best team in baseball is frustrating. The sox, hopefully for the better, are just supplementing to get through the regular season and into the playoffs. There have been plenty of times where doing nothing ends up being the right move, or at least big moves end up being more noise than substance. But then there's also times where a Verlander is acquired and takes you to a world series. Or a Castellanos arrives and is on absolute fire. The Sox have a playoff team, made sure they have a playoff team. They could have lined up and tried to insert all stars to areas to upgrade over their weaknesses to ensure they are a playoff team. Others tried to insert stars wherever possible to ensure they can place the best player on every possible spot. But they can do that to a lot less injury than the sox now. I hope like hell that Colson Montgomery explodes through the gates, and we trade him for a suddenly available Juan Soto in 2 years. Preller will still have the pieces in 2 years. Friedman will still have the pieces.
  18. So the young position players are all considered low ceiling still is my takeaway.
  19. It sucks seeing the stars align of turner coming available but following a team that never seems to have the bullets. It may not matter. A lot of stuff on the Cubs failure about the Eloy trade, etc. But they stopped drafting well without top 5 picks, and their intl stopped. It never stops with the Dodgers and rays and Yankees (intl, their drafting is garbage) and Sox. Mike Shirleys job is immensely important. Paddy’s job is immensely important. I hope they don’t fuck this up. it’s why I hate when people talk about how colson montgomery and other prep players are years away from impact. They might be, but their value could impact Sox a lot sooner.

Nice. Lenyn is a nice story.
  21. The bulls are so irrelevant I just can’t. I was so optimistic with this group, but ambition starts at the top.
  22. What the hell. I was thinking they’d unload. Damn it.
  23. Also - preller can do this because he knows he can keep bringing in more talent.
  24. right, Preller can do what he does because he has continued to bring in waves of talent from INTL and the draft each year. The sox practice of being uber targeted has meant we had some amazing prospects but a huge canyon behind. We just have to hope we hit spectacularly in this draft because I don't think this depth thing will change.
