  1. Pirates failed pitcher is actually an excellent resume recently
  2. Soxtalk game thread when Reynaldo is appearing: ”DFA him!” ”total trash I can’t wait until he’s gone” ”we’ll never compete with Reynaldo being relied on” Soxtalk offseason ”Reynaldo lopez is just as good as Joe Musgrove”
  3. It’s hard when the mlb has now seen 25 years of interference free play to point the finger at it, but it just seems so much more dysfunctional for both parties than the other leagues.
  4. Mlbpa needs a more wholistic approach but MLb deserves blame too. They put these rules in place just as it was clear ohtani was about to come over. Thankfully he still did, but it made it a difficult choice. The mlb commish should try to affirm to owners that actually it’s good for them to have the best players in the world come over and not freeze them out for years. Yeah, the draft will solve this, but this cba was garbage and the owners are way more interested in winning tit for tats with players than improving the game.
  5. Baltimore started using the space with Elias
  6. There is but just recall how the Sox have really not played in the sixteen year old market. Those dudes are mostly committed at 14 and grossly younger. The rumor from BA last year was clubs are committed years and years out now, so this is where the Cuban exports have just been crushed. Sox have had a lot of flexibility which is often not great but in this case excellent.
  7. I would probably let them both play out at this point. One piece of it is the number of teams now hiring both, the recent relative success. But they need to complete this resurgence. Hiring would look a lot better next year when a lot of cap issues get remedied, there's no fans in stands issues, etc. I really thought they had a shot at Wilson for a bit. Now, I think you have freedom to either take a guy if you like him, but also load up on Oline.
  8. I don't think so. I can't point to a specific thing, but this was a big discussion when Ohtani came over even after the new CBA was seemingly written to screw him over. The consensus was if any team did it, MLB would bring down the hammer.
  9. you make sweeping declarations after seeing single data points and I find it an exhausting way to live.
  10. I want good depth though. Maybe I am off on how much la stella will get. But he doesn't scream as someone that will get more than 10 mill in this market. I've seen a lot of 2 for $14 numbers.
  11. I think this is all good though I'd note the grants to K-12 and transportation are state and local aid. The PPP stuff I am less worried about just because it offers the best feedback. It literally drains, and when its out, there is a decent lobby there, and we've already seen it extended as an isolated bill. I've used ARRA as a comparison for how much closer to right-sizing CARES was, and I think this is small. But I don't think it's as off as you, mainly because the spending vs. savings, corporate earnings and tax revenue coming in better than expected. It certainly requires some optimism with this vaccine, but I think its reasonable to expect a surge of consumer spending once they are freer to move for all of that savings. I do not recall anything similar in late 08s, where among other things the huge decline in home prices led even healthy households to be more conservative as their wealth had taken a huge hit. I really wanted UE to be higher, I did not prioritize nearly as much in what I hoped to see. But, the save our stages/healthcare billing/green energy spending were things I did not expect. Most of all though, this has to pass, I do not want to see the unemployment lapse or funding issues on vaccine rollout to delay things. Delay is something that will really have adverse affects on employment in 2021.
  12. This is what it looks like in the bill, they are using 2019 data to get checks out now, but you can get the rebate in your 2020 filing.
  13. I don't think so, and he could start in DH/1b until vaughn gets up, then rotate among our infielders after that.
  14. It shouldn't be hard to find 550 PAs for him. They really ought to try Madrigal at short, because Tim really probably plays too much. There's plenty of space.
  15. Same food, replica of same hotel room, clone the coaches and tell them the same thing at the same time.
  16. The food boys have been manipulating me by capitalizing on my affection for La Stella by acting like the sox are interested in him. I have been using the food boys in hopes that Tony LaRussa sees the tweets and calls up Jerry to sign him. It is a long shot, but I love Tommy La Stella. Let me count the ways: - Tommy La Stella strikes out less than Nick Madrigal but nobody calls him nellie fox because he actually hits for power as well. - Tommy La Stella plays multiple infield positions with 2nd, 3rd and first. He's not particularly fast, but whatever, how hard is LF if we need him in a pinch? Nobody cares. We have Robert. - Tommy La Stella is Left Handed and the last two years has had a 134 and 151 wRC+ vs right handed pitching - Tommy La Stella walked 12% of the time last year. Move him around and around, as long as he's in the lineup. He is my la stella, the star. Tony, please put him in my stocking this year.
  17. I really have to stress that there isn't anyone that actually has a good read on this. They both haven't played in a long time, Colas barely played in Japan and Cespedes apparently became a tank in the last 2 years. Nobody that could speak confidently on which one is better has much to go off on. We just need to see them.
  18. Because they've been making deals with 14 year olds.
  19. They are competitors and want to play in the best league in the world.
  20. I feel bad for him. Best of luck in threading the needle to getting as much out of his talents as he can.
  21. When someone fails for the exact reason people thought he'd fail for, I have to say draft failure. Maybe if he was out of high school I'd say development.
  22. It is an ineffective policy but it doesn't really cause harm. You are right that it probably doesn't help many, but perhaps more companies will cater and could help some. But it was Trump's idea and the democrats accepted it in exchange for EITC expansion and other tax credits for low income.
