If we're not competitive in 2024, it won't be because we traded away a guy in 2020, it will be because our scouting, drafting, and INTL fell off a cliff (a la the cubs). The dodgers 4 years ago drafted Gavin Lux, 4 years prior to that they drafted Corey Seager. They were a playoff team through all of that. They can now trade away lux for whatever they want or have a new 3b post Turner. Sox can't stop the pipeline.

I'm not shopping kopech for anyone, but yes I would trade Kopech for Mike Clevinger. There is no guarantee a player as good as him becomes available when we need it, he has multiple years of control, and is not still working on control like Kopech is (nor has he missed 2 years of competition.)

I agree, just a few days ago I was talking about now overvaluing control over talent. But of the rumored names, there isn't anyone that concerns me on that side. These are high level talents.

sometimes the value to acquire isn't a sliding scale. Giants are "competing" for a playoff spot and have a lot of resources as an org that may not care for a mid-level guy instead of just making a run of it.

However, we can't just throw out every prospect as if they are equal value, and poo poo away 3 years of control for some of these players and cry that it's not 5 years. The difference between Kopech and Dunning and Stiever varies. And for the next 3 years we need a lot more guaranteed production.

It wouldn't be 6 years of Kopech. And god, the "12 years combined" stuff. is maybe the worst new measure sox fans have. Again, what if Kopech is still working on command next year and stiever is a dud? Does the 6 years mean anything at that point? I swear the new banner for this board should just be sox fans fondling a 2024 calendar.

I think the rangers were probably hurt a bit by the clevinger stuff. Dynamic changes when you are now holding the second best piece.

I mean, there is very little reason to believe there is much to this Hader/woodruff rumor. Just as likely we have some weird deal for Brett Anderson and a BP piece. We have an annual trade agreement to send a bullpen piece to the brewers.

They didn’t really trade a top prospect other than Trammel. They had a much deeper farm than us. Not a fan of their moves but not burning it down imo

Trammels been traded twice in 12 months, wouldn’t be surprised if he is one of the highly ranked guys whose star has long since fallen among scouts

I will say I also kinda wtf’d the Gallen-Chisholm trade last year and it ended up being some of the bigger impact guys moved
