Byrd Signs with the Tribe
Byrd is a real solid pitcher, nice pickup for Cleveland. He'll be a nice replacement for Elarton, they still need a find a replacement for Millwood though.

GM Meeting
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) besides..remember the last time we traded for a pitcher with the A's..That worked out well huh? Yup, that actually worked out just fine.

Garcia To Pitch for Venezuela
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) Freddy is a big, strong guy, so the injury concern doesn't worry me, but I hope he doesn't have more arm fatigue than usual. Basically, the tournament is his spring training starts, so it shouldn't be that much of an issue. Except he's pitching in real games. Big difference between just throwing in spring training to actually pitching in these games in which are going to be meaningful for the participants.

Garcia To Pitch for Venezuela
QUOTE(spataro51 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) i am concerned because he was showing signs of fatigue at the end of last year To the tune of a 2.14 era in the playoffs. The injury factor just really worries me, especially with a pitcher. Extra time pitching meaningless(meaningless to me) games doesn't sit with me well. Obviously you can't tell Freddy he cant pitch in this though, this is his decision and hopefully everything works out fine.

Garcia To Pitch for Venezuela
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) Link to it being offical? If it is true, the biggest question in my mind would be if Ozzie is managing the club or not. If Oz is the manager of Venezuela, I dont have a problem with it, because from what Ozzie had been quoted on, he seems concerned to have Garcia go, and if Ozzie had control of Garcia, im sure he would not let him get to many innings in, or get fatigued in the least. Very good point. Still, this does scare the hell out of me. I just don't like our pitchings having unnecessary work. Hopefully I'm just worrying about nothing and everything goes fine.

Free agent resource.
Mets Are Said to Be in Talks for Marlins Catcher The Mets have extended offers to the top two free-agent catchers, but it is becoming increasingly likely that they will fill their catching void by trading for Paul Lo Duca. They are involved in "very serious" discussions with the Florida Marlins about acquiring Lo Duca, according to a baseball official who was granted anonymity because he did not want to jeopardize the negotiations. The official said he did not know whom the Marlins would receive, but at this point they may not be picky. In cutting payroll, they are searching for young, cheap talent, along the lines of the two midlevel prospects they acquired from Minnesota on Friday in exchange for second baseman Luis Castillo. GM Meeting
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) So Zito is better than Garland, but Garland's value is Ortiz, Ramirez, and Boston's 2 best pitching prospects (??? and Papelbon)? So is Zito's value Ortiz, Ramirez, Varitek, and their 3 best pitching prospects? I think it was pretty obvious he was just exaggerating for the fact that there is no way Jon is going anywhere.

Rafael Furcal
QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) FYI - the article entitled "Furcal is key to Cubs' Big Plans" written by Dave Van Dyck is no longer on the Trib web site. That organization moves fast to protect themselves from embarrassment. Haha, nice catch.

Furcal is now a dodger
It's nice to have Juan Uribe for that gigantic contract we gave him last offseason.

Furcal is now a dodger
QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) Silvy has that wager with Carmen that if the Sox get Pierre, he will allow Bruce Levine to come into the studio and kick him in the groin. Irrespective of how childish it would be, it would be hilarious. To bad I actually like Silvy. Now if it was Mariotti, I would demand Kenny make a trade for Juan.

Furcal is now a dodger
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) The upfront money really sold Furcal, he liked the idea he got more than Tejada per year Well that kind of puts the deal in perspective. I like Furcal, I think he's a damn solid player and if he can keep his errors down like he did this year he's a gold glover. 13 mill per year though is nuts.

Furcal is now a dodger
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) The Dodgers overpayed but Furcal is pretty good. I wouldn't bat him leadoff. When he struggles it's because he gets "Home Run Happy" and his swing gets really long. I think that Izturis is a better fielder than Furcal. JMO. The ideal spot when Izturis gets back is to bat Furcal either 2nd or down in the lineup. Izturis should still be in the #1 slot. The same Izturis with the career .295 obp?? I actually like Izturis cause I love watching him play ss but he's not a leadoff hitter.

Furcal is now a dodger
This one really has to hurt the Cubs and their fans. I think most people(myself included) thought that Furcal going to the Cubs was as good a bet as there was this offseason. Oh well.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) I think Hendry is going to be taking alot of flak for this, even if Furcal got WAY more than he should have. You watch, Hendry might get overly aggressive here. However, like you said, never doubt the Cubs.... You're probably right, the Cubs need some kind of good PR and they need a leadoff hitter more then anything. That organization just never surprises me though so who knows.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) Btw, I expect the Cubs to get Pierre in the next 72 hours, and pay a little more than they need to because of this loss.... Ya know, normally I would completely agree with you. However this is the organization that had no problem starting last year with Corey Patterson as their leadoff man.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) That was a f***ing garbage call against Vick when they said he crossed the line. Oh well. That wasn't the penalty you whore.- GM Meeting
QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) Zito is rumored to be headed to Chicago.. but not the south side. Supposedly, according to Phil Rogers on the Score, Zito and Mench are headed to the Cubs, while the Rangers are getting Kerry Wood, Todd Walker, and cash, and the Athletics are getting Soriano and prospects. A friend of mine told me this, but I didn't hear it for myself, hence the "supposedly" It's a rumor from Rogers. Doesn't mean it's happening.- What bats #3 for the White Sox ?
QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) You put your best hitter third. Ozzie must not have got the memo last year. I'm fine with Thome batting 3rd but you don't necessarily need to have your best hitter bat 3rd.- Bowl Games
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) Josh, let's widen the view here. Michigan State was playing very well at the time they played Notre Dame. You can't with any logic or fairness call that a bad loss, just because Michigan State tanked their season after losing to Michigan. If you did, that would be like Auburn fans taking credit for killing South Carolina, a much improved team at the end of the year. But when Auburn played them, SC was terrible and without their starting QB. Can't count that as a "good" win, nor can you count Notre Dame's loss to Michigan St a bad one. The bottom line is, that like it or not, Notre Dame has a deal with the BCS and will get in because of it. If you think the deal sucks, then why not crow just as loudly that the Big East gets a bid? The BCS is what it is. It is designed to do the best possible job to pick the top 2 teams. Anything beyond that is nothing really different from the old days when the conferences were tied to bowls without the BCS. The BCS just puts the top two teams together rather than having them play in separate bowl games. That's it. Can ND take credit for beating Michigan then? At the time they beat them, Michigan was a very average team.- Official College Football Thread
