Healthy Podsednik
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Spark, catalyst, chemistry... Next I'm going to be given a lecture on osmosis. I agree w/ the op. Pods will help b/c his obp is higher than anyone's, save Konerko, and b/c it takes Timo out of the lineup and out of the leadoff spot (lowest obp of anyone with nearly the same amount of pt). That's no small thing, but it won't make anyone else hit. Pods hit well at the beginning of the year and our offense still had problems. Why would it be any different now? It'll help, but we still have problems. Actually having pods on base helps the guys behind him a lot, so I completely disagree with that statement. Also we were scoring a ton more runs at the beginning of the season, so your point is off base imo.

Timo is the best
QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) So, we are all converting and starting an "I love Timo just like Ozzie does" fan club? I've never disliked Timo, so I'm not converting to anything.

Timo is the best
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) Timo has delivered a few clutch hits than I can remember: -Yesterday's go-ahead single. -The go-ahead 2-run single again Min (even though the Sox lost in 16 innings) -The game-winning hit on Memorial Day against Anaheim -The game-tying hit against Oakland. He also threw out Ryan trying to score the tying run yesterday. I'm not saying he's a great player or anything, but he's delivered in the clutch more times than a few other guys on the team. Go ahead and rip me, I don't care. Bingo.
- Happy Birthday santo=dorf!

Are you IN or OUT?
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) WSox 77-47 (37+1 to play) Post-AS: 20-18 Indns 71-57 (34 to play) Post-AS: 24-16 Twins 67-60 (35 to play) Post-AS: 19-22 WSox since Thomas' last RBI or R: 15-18 Projected finish: WSox 93-68 Indns 93-69 Twins 87-75 (I'm being nice) Those games against CLE loom very large. Yay, we win the division by half a game, which is impossible.

Timo is the best
I'm probably one of the biggest Timo supporters on this site, I do actually like the guy. As weird as it sounds there aren't many guys I want up at the plate with the game on the line more then Timo, more then not he delivers.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) But now I get to here Hawk talk about how he's not as good as some of the pitchers he saw in his day, though he will say "this kid is gonna be something special". DJ will be absolutely droolling over Felix' curveball, not to mention his 95 MPH fastball that acts as a sinker and his ridiculous change that cuts 15 MPH off of his fastball with phenominal movement, how could I forget his 4 seemer that he throws 97 MPH with movement in on RHB and movement in on a LHB both with pin-point control. 2 years from now we'll see that slider, which is his best pitch. So in otherwords....he's nothing special?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) This is going to sound bad but... Even though most likely the Sox will not win tomorrow and will most likely be shutout by a rookie, I'm still looking forward to seeing him pitch. I've seen all of his starts so far this year and I am mesmerised. King Felix is absolutely sick, it will be a pleasure to see him pitch tomorrow. He can go mesmerise you against some other team

Healthy Podsednik
QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) When Pods comes back, if he is 100%, is this going to be enough to awaken our sleeping bats? I personally don't see how him being in the lineup makes the team start hitting. I see him as a threat that keeps the opposition on its toes, by forcing plays and causing pitchers fits but thats it. Am I wrong, what does everyone else think? Pods is a spark. The offense was struggling as he was as well when he went down but the moment he went down the offense just went into an absolutely huge funk. When he's on base things just happen, he can run, pitchers start to worry about him, all the sudden Tad, Carl, and Pauly are getting better pitches to hit. He's not just going to magically make the offense score a ton of runs, but he's going to help.....a lot.

Chicago White Sox 2005: The Season
QUOTE(GoSoxGo @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) Good point, I forgot about Rowand. But if last season was a fluke and this is the real Rowand, he isn't as good offensively as those guys either. However, our pitching staff does look to be better in the future than the Indians. Especially when they lose Millwood to free agency. He is going to want huge dollars this offseason. But I still think their offense will be way better than ours now and in the future. Now you're changing the point. I was never arguing that their offense wasn't good, I was saying overall they aren't as young as people make them out to be. Sure, they do have some nice young offensive talent but it's not like their whole team is in their low 20's. Anyways, like I said, they can have their hitting core, I'll take our pitching core.

Chicago White Sox 2005: The Season
QUOTE(GoSoxGo @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) To be more specific, the Indians' key position players are mostly young... Coco Crisp Victor Martinez Jhonny Peralta Grady Sizemore These 4 guys are all good, young players. We have Uribe and Crede as our young position players. Are Uribe and Crede even close to any of these guys offensively? Aaron Rowand doesn't count? Anyways, I'll take Mark Buehrle, Jon Garland, Bobby Jenks, Neal Cotts, they can have the offense, I'll take the pitching.

Chicago White Sox 2005: The Season
QUOTE(GoSoxGo @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) You sure about that? C.C. Sabathia, Cliff Lee, Jake Westbrook, Grady Sizemore, Coco Crisp, Jhonny Peralta, Travis Hafner, and Victor Martinez are all young. Keep in mind that their young players are actually good. We have young guys like Uribe and Crede. Hafner is 28 and Westbrook is just about to turn 28 so I wouldn't necessarily consider them young. They have some young players but as a group they aren't very young, their average age is 29.3, ours is 29.5.

Chicago White Sox 2005: The Season
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) With the Indians being loaded with young, terrific players...this is the year to win the AL Central! The Indians aren't that young.

Chicago White Sox 2005: The Season
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) This is no dynasty. This team is overachieving and it will NOT happen next year, not unless we get more offense somehow and I mean a LOT of it. That being said, I don't see why they can't ride whatever it is they've been riding so far all the way to the WS this year. Ohh, thanks for the info, I guess I don't have to watch next season then.

Leagues Top Hurlers velocity-wise
Farnsworth, Wagner and Jenks are the 3 hardest throwers in baseball, imo.
