GAME THREAD 7-15-05 SOX vs TRIBE
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 06:13 PM) That's not a swing you expect from Hafner. Especially after Freddy's walked a few tonight. That pitch was nasty, it just died.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) I want to know their opinions on the Burnett/Schmidt/Lilly trade rumors and what they think of Crede's injury. Rowand44, why won't they get it today??? They don't get incoming emails when they're on the road.

I mean that's all you have to do to score runs, 3 walks and a k-wp. You see that happen all the time.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) Alright, really gotta make it hurt, Jermaine... Carl is so vulnerable to that breaking ball down and in. He always swings at it. He obviously planned that the whole at bat

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) Ya, I think its around 7 mill a year annually (which isn't too bad cause he's a pretty good pitcher, imo). Ya, I have no clue why I thought he just took arbitration but that's a reasonable price for him and I'd love to have him. However because of that division the dodgers are in if they can get healthy they have a reasonable shot at winning that thing.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) He signed one of those cookie cutter 3-year deals... 22-24M Ahh, for some reason I thought he just accepted arbitration, thanks for the info.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) I'm going to throw out a name here, but Odalis Perez. He's fed up with the Dodgers organization and just signed a 3 yr deal (maybe it was longer) for them a year or two ago (can't remember which off-season it was). He's a lefty, isn't signed to a horrid contract, and is a pretty good pitcher when healthy. The only issue is that he's been banged up this year and the Dodgers may not want to give him up, since they are technically still in the race (especially when they get there bats back). At the same time, if they truly are fed up with him, now would be a good time. Perez is mad at how the organization rushed him and Gagne back from injuries, mainly him. Says he was in a rehab assignemtn, told them he absolutely couldn't go another inning, and they threw him out there anyway and he ended up re-injuring something and it delayed his comeback. He hasn't been great this year (but he's finally getting healthy) and last year he was tremendous once again (2 of his past 3 seasons have been very good, imo). He may pitch at Dodger stadium but he has good stuff and limits hits and is a solid strikeout pitcher. He's gotten hit hard in his two starts since coming off the DL though. Didn't he just accept arbitration this past offseason to stay with L.A.??

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) No Crede tonight. His back may be acting up again. Pods & AJ are off, too. It's the all righty lineup: Ozuna 3B Gooch 2B Hurt DH Konerko 1B Everett LF Dye RF Rowand CF Widger C Uribe SS Tribe: Sizemore CF Coco Puffs LF Hafner DH Martinez C Blake RF Belliard 2B Broussard 1B Peralta SS Boone 3B Ugh, I hate it that scotty is out because a lefty is pitching. Hopefully ozuna can make some things happen at the top of the order. EDIT: Scott's batting .328 against lefties this year with a .389 obp against them, yet it seems he's not getting many ab's agasint southpaws anymore.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) I just don't get why Lilly would be on the market when the Jays are one of the teams hot after Burnett. If they are looking to add pitching, than I don't see them moving Lilly. It would essentially be counterproductive. Yeah, I actually agree with that, I don't think Lilly is getting traded, I probably should have said that. But if he was available the I'd love to have him, more or less I was talking a guy like Lilly, who can add depth to the rotation, be a solid 5th starter and also be a long reliever when needed.

Best UTL guy Available?
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) I think the answer here is Obvious.... Aubrey Huff.... Big back... Can play 3B for now... and when Crede is fully healthy it allows us to give Konerko his walking papers... Plus can spell the OF too... Big bat... Impact player.... For a package of Anderson, Sweeney, and BMAC maybe the DRAY'S Will bite.. Anderson, Sweeney and Bmac for a player who's had a tough year?? No f'n way. I'm a huge Huff fan too but that trade would be dumb.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) Burnett is the sexy choice. Let's just get Lilly and call it a day. I'm really starting to lean this way as well. As much as Burnett is intriguing getting Lilly adds depth to the rotation, could be a bullpen saver as well and obviously it wouldn't cost us as much. I'm pro Lilly at this point or a pitcher like him.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) There is a big difference between throwing 100 and throwing 96. In ability...the guy throwing 100 wins. In cost...it's a different story. Alright, by ability I mean the ability to get guys out, basically how good the pitcher is. If Damaso is in 03 form he's just a bit below Wagner, probably the 2nd best lefty reliever in baseball though.

QUOTE(Jimenez4MVP @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) No fn way... Marte is not better than Wagner, not even close... Look at the career numbers Wagner >>>>>>>>>>>>> Marte If Damaso is back to 03 form which isn't a certainty at all yet, he's pretty close to Billy in terms of ability.

Aaron's play tonight
I just thought this play deserved some mentioning. To be honest, I've never seen that play in the majors before, you look at the start of the play where Rowand was positioned and it's absolutely amazing for him to get to that ball. Just an absolutely fantastic play by Aaron, possibly a game saver. This play is almost symbolic of how this season has been, everyone on the team chipping in, players bailing their teammates out in certain situations. To Aaron To the White Sox I absolutely love this team, they can go along way people, lets enjoy it.
