  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) Jermaine Dye hates Sabermetrics more than any human being on earth. It's why he's still unemployed. He's still unemployed because he's stubborn as all hell. I obviously understand the point you're making though. Like with everything there's some great things and some bad things that come from sabermetrics imo. I've never been the biggest stat guy in the world and probably never will be but I've certainly come around to a few things that I would have just openly dismissed a few years back. I would never base my opinion on a player entirely on stats but if any thing I know that some metrics have opened my eyes on some things that I should take notice of around the game. The first example that comes to my mind is Franklin Gutierrez. I always knew he was a good of but when you look at his unreal UZR it makes you pay more attention to him when you get to see him in person to see "ok, lets see if this guy is really as good as this metric says," and in Gutierrez's case, he definitely is. That being said, there's also been plenty of times when I've seen players don't match up anywhere near where a certain metric measures them at. Basically, if you dismiss all stats or the eye test, you're making a big mistake either way because they're both pretty damn important.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) Word. I loved the guy until he lied to the fans and the organization, both about himself, and what had gone on. Its one thing to want more money, it is another to be a total lowlife about it. ^This. I never had a problem with him leaving the organization for more money, I had a problem with the way he left.

  4. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) Yep, Butler already beat Syracuse, KSU, and Michigan State. I can't see Duke scaring them. I don't know how Butler will handle Zoubek, but maybe a miracle will happen for a Butler 3 point shooter going off like McNamara. That's the one thing that's been bothering me, how is Butler going to keep Zoubek off the offensive glass? If they can manage to do that semi well, I think they'll win this game.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) Bet a buddy $20 that Duke rolls. Gave him Butler and 7 points. I feel very confident. No chance. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) Well it set up pretty nice for them, they only had to play MSU without their best player in the final four, by far the worst team left in the field. Butler had the hardest road of anyone to get to the final four.
  6. Rockies Cardinals Phillies Braves-WC Mariners White Sox Yankees Red Sox-WC Red Sox over Phillies. Yuck.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 02:21 AM) I agree with your thought process, although I don't think Butler is quite as big an underdog as some people think. This is a team that just about everybody had pegged as a legitimate national title contender next year if Gordon Hayward came back (although that's very iffy now). They are just a year early more than anything. They were the one preseason final four team I got correct. That's one more correct than I got on my actual bracket this year.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) Every year? Yup.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) His last decent season was 2005. His last great one was 2003. His greatness on defense didn't last all that long. Which despite stats I'll call bulls*** on. He's not great anymore but he was one of the best defensive cf's I've ever seen for a long time and that lasted passed 2003.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) Duke's perimeter defense is amazing, I don't know why people don't realize this. By my count, they've taken one charge the whole game. I'm pretty sure most people realize that. Despite Dukes problems lately in the tournament, they've been a good defensive team for a long time, that hasn't been their problem.
  11. Butler or Tennessee is going to win this whole damn thing.
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) Looks like the Big East is as horrible as everyone says. Ya, it's on pace with the horizon league. By the looks of it, I was the only one around here cheering for Kentucky. I have no idea why, but WVU absolutely annoys the hell out of me. Maybe it's the fact that they're not a particularly good offensive or defensive team(they do rebound exceptionally well though) but they keep finding ways to win so I have to take my hat off to them, they're much better than I thought. That being said, I hope Baylor dismantles Duke and then proceeds to do the same to WVU.
  13. QUOTE (Felix @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 09:08 AM) He's incredibly talented and is probably going to be a great pro, but he's a massive, massive tool. I thought it was a foul at first too, but the replay was pretty clear. Great non-call by the ref. If anything it was an offensive foul. I'm like you guys though, thought he got mauled when I saw it in real time. Good job by the refs.
  14. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 02:13 AM) CBS had some awful coverage here of the games tonight. We got Kentucky-Cornell for the whole game, even when the much better Xavier-KSU game was so close. Once KY had it wrapped up, they should have switched to the Kansas St game, but no. We had to wait until the teams were done shaking hands to get the other game. Yes, I know I could have watched on my computer. But a bunch of buddies were gathered to watch the games, so we weren't all going to crowd around a computer. I assume like myself you're actually in the Kentucky region so they literally refuse to switch the games at all. It's so god damn frustrating but I had to deal with the same crap with Murray State as well this tourny.
  15. Very happy that Butler won that game. Now hopefully X can take out K State.
  16. Good first half by Butler, they'd actually be up a lot more if it wasn't for some questionable shot selection. Keep it up, Bulldogs!
  17. Ozzie can't be this f***in stupid, can he?
  18. After watching last weekends games, I have no idea how anyone in the universe would want to change that. It was f***in perfect, now leave it the f*** alone.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 06:56 PM) Missouri Valley represent! Like they should of two years ago before getting hosed 3 years ago. UNI is pretty much what we were back than, the difference in this game and ours was definitely the officiating. Way too rep the Valley UNI!
  20. f***in awesome. f***in awesome. f***in awesome.
  21. Been 4 years since I last won, gotta take my thrown back this year.
  22. Damaso Marte is a pretty solid one if I must say so myself.
  23. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) Let's also not forget that UNI lost to DePaul and Evansville. I'm always leery of taking mid-majors that don't shoot terribly well from the field, don't force turnovers and don't light it up from 3-point range. The Depaul loss is absolutely inexcusable but the Evansville loss while still a terrible one, came while Eglseder was suspsended.
  24. QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) UTEP to the sweet 16. There the Orange end their mimi cinderella run. The one thing I'm certain on in this tournament is that the winner of UTEP-Butler is going to the sweet 16. I love both UTEP and Butler but UTEP is more athletic, pretty much starts a NBA starting 5 height wise and length wise and Caracter possibly could get Howard in foul trouble and that would pretty much all but end Butlers chances in that game. I have 'Cuse in the final four but if there's anyone in that whole region that I believe can beat them, I think it's the Miners.
