Sox sign Podsednik to MLC
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) Comic relief in the outfield, and ulcers for most ChiSox fans. Maybe we can put a helmet on him while he's playing center.

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) I don't think anyone has tried to claim that Owens or Wise are better than Pods. It's very much the opposite. I have and I'll stick to that. If we were talking about LF it'd be a different story, but we're talking about cf and I'd rather have Wise or Owens at this point, true story.

Sox sign Podsednik to MLC
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) Ozzie was quoted as KW told him he was calling up Owens "for a few days". Maybe they think Pods will be ready in a few days as he hasn't played in couple of weeks. I can't see how anyone thinks Pods, when he's not hurt, isn't better than Owens. Pods in CF is a scary thought, but you can say that about several White Sox when they are out on the field. I do know Ozzie would sub defensively for Pods and he probably wouldn't for Owens, so BA might get on the field late in some games he normally would be riding pine in. Hopefully though, its all moot, and BA starts scorching the ball. I'm sorry but right away I just think of Mackowiak from 06 with this move, you know, minus the decent bat. Pods is an upgrade over Owens offensively but a huge down grade defensively(not that Owens is anything special). And as for Wise, at least he can bring some power which Pods obviously has none of unless it's October. I just believe he's going to cost us a lot more runs in center than the amount of runs he brings us by hitting a few more singles than Owens does.

Boo. Gotta love when they postpone games when it's not even raining at the moment.

Sox sign Podsednik to MLC
I'm going to disagree that Pods is an upgrade over Owens and Wise just for the fact that Pods in CF might be the scariest thing in the world. This move worries me as I think he's going to take some playing time away from Anderson and having Pods out in center at all is just a disaster waiting to happen.

Opening Day Being Rained Out????
I was at the game in 06. It was pouring, freezing and I remember getting calls from various people saying there were tornado warnings all around the area. I was seriously probably about 1 of 4 people that stayed there for the whole game(got sick as hell the next day). That might have been a little different since it was opening night on ESPN but I'd say it'll be very hard to rain out opening day.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) If you are a small school and a lower level of opponents the entire season, your record must be stellar or you must win your conference to get in. Its pretty simple actually for them. On a whole, the 2nd place team in those small conferences barely match up with the 4th or 5th place team in major conferences, its just how it is. Well Creighton did win a share of the MVC and they had 26 wins so they matched those criteria. To put that in some perspective: CU is the only team in the last decade to have at least 26 wins and a top 50 rpi and not make the NCAA's, go figure. And Jenks, I do think Creighton should have made the field but I also think Zona should have been in over some of the Big 10 teams. Two rpi top 25 wins in the non conference is pretty hard for any bubble team to match. Granted, as you said they had a lot of opportunities but I still don't think you can over look some of those wins.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) Sorry, statistics support that mid tier BCS teams are better than non's. What stats? BTW, I think Arizona should be in based on their resume. Too many good wins to leave them out imo. I really don't see them beating Utah though.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) So, on a scale of 1 to 10, how hard is Duke going to hammer Binghamton? Who knows. Belmont gave Duke fits in the first round last year. Granted, Duke's a bit better than they were last season but this group of Dukies haven't exactly been great in the NCAA's.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) I don't want to sound like an ass, but I think you have a mid-major bias here because Gonzaga is freaking terrible. It's a damn shame St. Mary's couldn't finish pantsing them with a healthy Mills. I'll be very surprised if Memphis makes the final four. I have no bias for Gonzaga, you should know that I've pretty much hated Gonzaga forever. You're right that I do like mid majors more than most but I don't consider the Zags a mid major at all. I respect your opinion on this but I think highly of both the Zags and the Tigers this year.

I'm not going to make an argument for Memphis' resume but I'll make an argument for their team. IMO they are by far the best defensive team in the nation and as has been said they've grown a lot as a team since November and December. You beat Gonzaga in Spokane and you're doing something right. I'll say right now that I believe Memphis is going to be back in the final four. Quote me on that.

Big East Tournament
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) So Louisville is a lock for a 1 seed if they take care of business the rest of the way? After everything that happened today/tonight, they've locked up a number 1 already imo. MSU might have a shot if they can win the big 10 tourny now as well. Crazyness.
