Did Hahn acquire enough offense?
I'll believe Anderson is a quality major league shortstop until he sucks next season. Dude is going to be fine imo.

Did Hahn acquire enough offense?
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 08:30 PM) I think we have more redundancy than that. They aren't as high profile yet but your Adolfo's / Skougs area other level and possible leaps from Gonzalez / Call / Fisher / Booker and you also have guys like Josue Guerrero. Right. And took out Anderson and didn't include Leury or Yolmer or Davidson and didn't include any of the 8 billion dollars we'll have to fill holes. Nobody knows what the future holds but there's plenty of offensive capability in this organization now.

Do the White Sox now have the best farm system in MLB?
Avi's going to have to show something the next few weeks until the deadline. With his history and the way his numbers were plummeting before the break, I don't think anyone is trading a top or even good prospect for him at the moment.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) My experience was the exact opposite Ya, the consensus on this one is definitely that the Sox won it. Much like the Eaton deal, I love it from the Sox perspective but the team trading for our guy is getting a severely underrated player and asset on the national level.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 07:54 PM) Time to get moncada up. He has nothing much to gain against AAA hitting IMO. Not having a crazy year slash wise only solid, but he should start getting MLB seasoning IMO. Just to keep him hungry and to be around other pros in the Show. I'm positive if he didn't get hurt that slash line is a ton better but oh well. I agree, I don't think spending time in aaa does anything for him at this point.

Did Hahn acquire enough offense?
There's plenty of bats(albeit a lot at the lower levels) in the system now. Add to that the emergence of a guy or two or three in the majors that have proven they can maybe be every day players and there's plenty of offensive capability to make this thing work.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 06:10 PM) When giving up a talent and value like Jose Quintana, I would think the Sox should have gotten at least one player back that is just about MLB ready. I wish that along with Cease and Jimenez the Sox would have gotten back someone like Candelario or Happ or Schwarber. I know Jimenez is a highly rated prospect as is Cease, but being so far away from the major leagues makes them a very risky return for a proven talent like Q who is under control with such a reasonable contract. I know I'm almost alone in my opinion by the ecstatic reaction of almost everyone here to the trade. I wonder if the Seattle fans were this excited when the Mariners acquired Jeremy Reed + for Freddy Garcia, who was to become a free agent. Again, not knocking the potential of Jimenez and Cease, just would have liked at least one proven major league ready player to go along with them for a proven commodity like Quintana, one of the best and most consistent left handed starters in baseball signed to a bargain contract for several more years. First off, nothing you're saying is unreasonable. Second, I disagree completely. If we were trying to win next season I'd be a little bit more on board with what you're saying but given that the Sox aren't trying to compete next year either you just go for the best talent possible here and not worry quite as much where they're at in their development path.

Nationals acquire Doolittle/Madson from As
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) I don't even mind someone arguing that is the case! I just cannot stand when someone waves a hand at me without ever engaging in a discussion of why they disagree. I agree. Just like anything an argument to any case is fair but there's been plenty of people(and like I said some of my favorite posters here too) that continue to think they absolutely know who is and isn't available when in reality, nobody does. It's just become a Soxtalk pet peeve of mine.

As long as Oldsox thinks we finally cracked the top 20 then I'm cool.

Nationals acquire Doolittle/Madson from As
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) I love your posts, but I have to admit, this comes off as a bit presumptuous. Why should that be the goal? We've seen some crazy s*** just happen. Now we're going to immediately go back to saying that we're all crazy? Seriously though, all of us here need to stop pretending that we know what is and isn't available. A lot of my favorite posters on this site have been doing this and it's been driving me nuts. Nobody knows what every GM is willing or not willing to give up.

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) What dont you like about Cease? His numbers look fantastic to me Some people see him as a reliever. Stuff is nasty though and so are the numbers so that shouldn't even be a thought yet.

Who knows if he'll ever be a good major leaguer but you get the feeling Jake is just going to fly through the minors.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 08:10 PM) I'd be willing to bet you a keg of beer he becomes a pretty nice NBA player...starter or 6th man type. He might, I could also see him being a guy that plays 5 minutes a game because his team is playing 4 on 5 on offense with him out there. Like I said, not defending the trade at all as it was completely moronic and even more annoying but I'm not going to freak out about Bell just yet.

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) I know it doesn't *really* matter, but I'd like to see Burger batting higher than 5th. He's the best prospect in that lineup and they should be trying to maximize the number of PA's that he gets. It doesn't matter but the thing is there's no reason not to do it either.

The trade was completely stupid but the legend of Jordan Bell is pretty crazy already.

Also the Enzo and Cass stuff has been terrific. I was so tired of them so didn't think I'd care about the split at all but they've both been awesome.

Luis Robert injured
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 06:47 AM) Now I remember. Tax savings. Robert signs a deal for $26 Million, Sox get another similar bill for some tax, and now the White Sox biggest concern is Robert's tax return. This tax saving concept sucked from day one. Here is what you do: 1. Pay the tax owed. 2. Move to the US. So, instead, this mega - wealthy 19 year old is hanging around the DR with money coming out of his pockets, dealing with whomever, playing once a week on some sand lot. He predictably hurts himself and goes to the local witch doctor for medical attention. He should be over here getting big league instruction, playing as often as possible, and getting better as quickly as possible. But No. We need to save taxes. What do we do to save taxes in 2018? Keep him in the DR again? Isn't this what crazy people do? Same thing over and over. What did Red Sox do when they signed Moncada to similar deal two years ago? They moved him the the US, put him on the Low A roster, and played him. Tax savings. $26 Mill is not enough. We have to save his taxes, too. Good lord.
