  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) I will tell you what, if you honestly try Art of Pizza deep dish, and you dont think its superior I will offer up some free tickets I was a Ranalli's guy myself.
  2. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) Taco Burrito House does not suck, and yeah Branko's is still around - although their overpriced.... as is much of the food around DePaul. You college kids can't appreciate fine Mexican cuisine.........like the yummy treats found at El Presidente at Wrightwood and either Southport or Ashland, I forget.
  3. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Tomato Head isn't a bad alternative if ur looking for some good pizza in the area..... however, it pails in comparison to Lou Malnati's on Lincoln. Oh and by the way Kelly's is the best bar in the Lincoln Park realm. It was my second favorite, behind the Everleigh Club, which is gone now
  4. Taco Burrito House Sucks. Is Branko's still on Fullerton across the street from the quad? That place was pretty good for wieners too. DePaul Alumnus, 1996.
  5. There is a bar on Clark I believe called Trace which is a Sox bar. I know this because I went to high school with one of the owners, and he is a southsider/diehard Sox fan. From what I hear, the staff there wear the jersey of the Cubs' opponent when the Cubs are in town.
  6. If Shingo does get demoted, can someone follow him around with a camera so I can turn it into a reality show? I think the idea of a Japanese guy bussing around tobacco road has comedy winner written all over it.
  7. Happy Birthday, you Crazy Christian!
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) All speculation though. When it comes down to it, if you are the Reds GM, and your team is floundering, and your fan base is turning against your moves the past two years, do you make a trade straight up, and how does that help your club. You are taking Crede, who has Bora$$ as his agent, and has not performed well in the majors. Or you could hold on to Randa until the end of the year when a contender will give up alot for a good 3B and a bat going in the stretch run. It doesnt make sense to me. We are going to have to agree to disagree. Because I think, if KW makes a move, its going to be a big one that DRASTICALLY helps the club. REalizing of course that we are only in May, but here are your contenders currently: Sox, Twins, Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Orioles, Angels, Texas, Braves, Nationals, Mets, Brewers, Cardinals, Dodgers, Giants, D-BAcks. You can cross off the Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, Texas, Braves, Mets, Cardinals, and D-Backs simply because they have better players at third. That leaves the Sox, Twins, Blue Jays, Angels, Nationals, Brewers, Dodgers, and Giants. Now, cross off the Blue Jays, and Nationals because they've invested in third basemen already this year. Sox, TWins, Angels, Brewers, Dodgers and Giants left. The Brewers and Twins aren't likely to add any salaries or give up any real prospects, so now it's the Sox, Angels and Dodgers. The Angels are probably out, because they'll focus on more power bats, so this big market is realistically down to 2 teams.
  9. No you won't. The Reds would take a younger, cheaper player any time over an older player that makes 4 times as much money They could believe a change of scenery is needed, or maybe their coach sees something in him they can fix, or simply a low-risk salary dump. Randa's defense is not much worse than Crede's. It's OK if Crede wasn't an offensive star, because he is an 8th-9th place hitter. But, it's that his at-bats are usually wasted if he isn't hitting because he rarely walks, can't hit with 2 strikes, doesn't run well, doesn't move runners, strikes out a lot, etc.
  10. Randa also has the dreaded "intangibles" that Crede doesn't have. He rarely strikes out, he can bunt, he can hit to the right side, etc. All things you need a 8th or 9th place hitter to do. It's been long enough, Crede has had plenty of chances and it's not like he's 23 or 24. If you get a chance to move Crede for Randa straight up, do it, IMHO.
  11. Send Crede and a prospect to Cincinnati for Joe Randa and Austin Kearns. Works for both sides
  12. Clinton, Giuliani, whoever-- if you think any of them actually give two s***s about anything but lining their pockets and the pockets of a select few others, you're kidding yourself. Nothing else will be guaranteed except that whoever wins won't accomplish 1 f***ing thing that will help solve any of the immediate problems this country faces.
  13. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 26, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) Ed Cassin needs to be in the booth more often. I just turned the game on, and I thought it was Gene Simmons from Kiss. I guess if they're letting Ed freakin Cassin on the air, the Scottie Pippen look-a-like beer vendor can't be far behind
  14. From my limited experience, Phoenix is a pretty boring city. However, Arizona has all kinds of neat things to see, especially if your a nature fan. Grand Canyon is the obvious first choice, the Joshua Tree National Forest is really cool, but you'd only want to spend a few minutes there. Hoover dam isn't too far away, Vegas is a reasonable drive from there.
  15. I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally. This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy. The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty. Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight), the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it. It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another. There is an opinion that parties in free countries are useful checks upon the administration of the government and serve to keep alive the spirit of liberty. This within certain limits is probably true; and in governments of a monarchical cast, patriotism may look with indulgence, if not with favor, upon the spirit of party. But in those of the popular character, in governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged. From their natural tendency, it is certain there will always be enough of that spirit for every salutary purpose. And there being constant danger of excess, the effort ought to be by force of public opinion, to mitigate and assuage it. A fire not to be quenched, it demands a uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume. --George Washington
  16. QUOTE(shakes @ May 25, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) I think Crede has always been an awful 2 strike hitter and that won't change. Last night was one of the few two strike hits I can remember him getting. Uribe as a two strike hitter goes with his streaks. I would guess that most hitters aren't as good with 2 strikes than they are without, but it's the predictability that bothers me. He gets beat on the same pitch every time. Let that damn pitch go-- it's never in the strike zone.
  17. I dont have a problem with the streakiness, but I have a major problem with streakiness combined with the complete inability to give the team any productive at-bats. Uribe, Crede and so far this year, Rowand, are absolutely useless when they aren't hitting. They don't walk, they don't make the pitcher work(although Uribe occasionally fouls off 13 pitches before striking out) they don't move runners over, etc. They're holdovers from previous team that don't seem to buy into the new philosophy. It's getting to the point with Uribe and Crede like it used to get with Valentin. What I mean is, everytime Valentin had 2 strikes on him, everyone watching the game knew a curve ball in the dirt was coming, it would come, and Valentin would swing at it every time. Now, it's slider outside for Crede, and high fastball for Uribe. Get 2 strikes on either of those guys, throw the appropriate pitch, and you have a guaranteed strikeout.

  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) Hey gang, we have a final draft done of the letter we are sending to Brooks and his bosses with the Sox. All we need are the rest of the names of people who want to be included in it. If you would like to be included PM either me or Heads with your full real name (don't worry, Mike Hunt has already signed it). So far we have about 30ish people. Please try to get these in by the end of the weekend, as we would like to send it out Monday or so. Thanks, Southsider OK, so I might be completely clueless, but what is this letter about?

    The Dells..

Go somewhere else. Seriously. Unless you're a miniature golf and water park addict.
  21. Well, Tex, first check out what the laws are in Texas concerning beastiality. If you aren't doing anything illegal, go for it, you only live once.
  22. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 12, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) On the other side of things, most of the newspapers in the state of Iowa can't get enough Sox coverage. Sure, you're gonna have Cubs coverage in the DM Register with the Iowa Cubs in town, but I've been pleasantly surprised that if the papers throw in a story about a major league team, it's usually the Sox. Also, the Register is owned by Gannett or Knight-Ridder, either of which is one of the Tribune companies.
  23. Either: Mexican Cheerleader or The f***ing Champs
  24. Huh, I get to use this one twice today: Another day, another idiot.
