QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 10:39 AM) You have a great 1-3, and a terrible 4-5. You will be lucky to get 270 innings out Danks/Floyd next season, and the bullpen is going to have to stay the same due to payroll restrictions. Thats a ton of innings for a bad bullpen to eat. Not to mention the same lineup will have to be brought back, which was one of the worst in the league. Depleted by injury and off years. Its not like you would be bringing in Freddy Garcia to the mix. You are bringing in the most dominant pitcher in the league. I think you guys are wearing your think the other direction GM hats too tight. The impact that a pitcher of his caliber would make on this team is huge. Danks is a solid #4 pitcher, we would have the best 1-3 in the division. We would immediately be a contender if not the favorite in the division going into next season. Thats the end of my argument. I ask you guys who are so against paying the best pitcher in baseball to step back from your usual arguments, and just picture what a comfort it would be to have Johan going every 5th day. Couple that with the comfort of Buehrle and Vaz, and you have almost 60 wins accounted for already. Its probably not realistic, nor financially feasible, but from a fans standpoint, nothing could be better than rolling out Santana in the Sox uni.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 10:32 AM) The last thing this team needs is a player to take up a huge chunk of the payroll. We already have too many guys like that. Thats why I laugh when I hear the Sox should sign A-Rod. There are WAY too many holes to be filled to tie up a bunch of money at one position. Thats great an all. But if you have Santana, you dont need alot of those other players taking up chunks of payroll. Rolling out a rotation of 1. santana 2. Vaz 3. Buehrle alone makes this team a serious contender. You could even have jerry Owens hitting leadoff and in Cf with those 3.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 10:28 AM) But we could never afford him. Thus, I'm excited that he's not going to be in the AL Central anymore. We're going to have to use a lot of money to rebuild this offense. Starting pitching is actually something that we have some possible minor leaguers that project to help us out. Cant afford him with the payroll now. But with a player like him on the roster, you can be cheap in lots of other areas. I would gladly ignore signing a player this offseason, and could do away with both Garland and the Count's salaries.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 10:24 AM) I wouldn't....his homer rate is rather alarming this year. His fastball is down a mile or two this season, and he's logged a ton of innings over the last 5 seasons. Considering he'll get the biggest contract for a starting pitcher ever, I'd rather just watch some team overpay for him. Hes the best pitcher in baseball. Hands down. Look at his stats in an off year all you want. He would immediately make this team a fav in this division. Last 5 years: 2003 17hr 169k 3.07 ERA 158 IP 2004 24 hr 265k 2.61 ERA 228 IP 2005 22hr 238k 2.87 ERA 231 Ip 2006 24hr 245k 2.77 ERA 233IP 2007 33hr 235k 3.33 ERA 219 IP I mean, come on. If there is any player in baseball you want on your team, Johan has to be top 3

I'd trade half our damn farm system for Johan, and then ink him to an extension. That would be best case scenario for me at least.

Man that first month looks tough

Trading Fields and/or Danks for a star

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 01:27 PM) The White Sox #1 prospect. Faustino De Los Santos (pitched in Kannapolis and Winston Salem this year and was also the Sox representative in the Futures Game). Is he really the #1 prospect? I would think Gio or Eggy would be #1 -
QUOTE(Beltin'Bill @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) I would say WS appearance, but there are too many Cubs fans who believe if not for Bartman, the Cubs would have won the whole thing in 2003. If Bartman won't go to games anymore, maybe a whole contingent of Sox fans could buy that section and show up with our headphones and eyeglasses. Its hilarious. Cubs fans forget that the game did actually keep going and their players made the team lose. Not only that but they still had one more game with their Ace on the mound that they also lost Best part is that D Lee pretty much won it for the Marlins in those two games.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) I take things to extremes and you don't, ever. Right right right. Like the time you accused me of hating all Chicago coaches ignoring the fact that I Really, I just wanted to point out that Poreda did what is expected of him at that stage and it doesn't mean much of anything. You were talking about his dominance with one pitch as if it meant that he'd be able to carry that into the future. That simply isn't so. If Poreda can't develop good secondary pitches, he's going to grow up and be Matt Thornton. And I love Thornton's arm, or did before it lost some heat this year and hitters started lighting him up because they expected strikes, but that isn't a high ceiling. Arguing a point isnt the same as making fun of a post and taking the rationale to the extreme. Never did I say the things you said I was inferring, nor did I ever think that way. As far as his performance at that level, he surpassed probably 99.9 percent of people on this site who called his selection a travesty and a reach, including the opinion of many experts. He was then called one of if not the most dominant arms selected in the draft.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 01:22 PM) I think you meant to call him an icon. I think he was spot on.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) Teach him to stand up for his principles. Send him in the Sox jersey. Yup. IN fact he may stand out as the "cool" southside rebel. Could get some chicks too.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) Did you read my post? Are you high? I said I agree you CAN'T od on weed. And btw, at the White Castle reference I know. I was just giving the ever important statistic. Its hilarious. Have you ever seen the show intervention? I cant wait until they do one on weed. "List John. Your snacking has gotten out of control, your video game skills are top notch and you are WAYYYY too laid back. You need to go to rehab of ytou will ruin your life and never die."
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) I agree you can't OD on weed. I agree that weed is probably less harmful than alcohol. It wasn't mentioned, but I will also state I believe weed is illegal because of racist attitudes back in the 20s. But people are kidding themselves if they think pot has never contributed to a death. You are twisting what I wrote, I never said you could OD. But weed would be the only drug where someone wasn't impaired and got in an accident. Cold medicines do it. Alcohol of course, prescription drugs all the time. But y'all think that would NEVER happen with pot. Have you seen the statistics. You would have to smoke about 900 joints I believe to overdose. Imagine the amount of White Castle you would need to consume to satisfy that hunger.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) Yup, that would be them I remember meeting those two at a game, and the first thing jim said to me was, nice to meet ya, f*** TIMO!!

Im excited to see what the kid can do. Lance, this is your chance to show you arent a nothing prospect. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) Others have been over it before. Most of the people in his league have never seen a fastball that fast. If you think it's testament to how good Poreda is that he did what first round draft picks are supposed to do, then by all means, he's hardcore. Pencil him in to the rotation shortly! Do you have to post everything in a smart-ass tone. The guy was called the most dominant pick of the draft. He obviously performed well. Why do you have to take everything to the extreme?
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 09:45 AM) Quick and Jim were great to watch a ball game with. Yup, met them both and had beers with them. Funny guys. I miss them on here.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) And no one makes statements that cell phones contributed to zero deaths. Yeah, and I didnt mean that post to come off as so jerk-like

Cedric Benson and Rex Grossman both suck

Speaking of offensive talent. Is there a Musin Muhammed out there somewhere? -
Well. I guess Poreda just dominated without a second pitch....
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) So it is the only drug that does not impair you in anyway? It makes you sharper, better reflexes, improves judgment? No way it could contribute to a death. Wow. I stand corrected. Getting a hair in your eye can contribute to a death, cell phones, blurry contact, all of those can contribute. But it has not caused a death, get it?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 10:39 AM) I am starting to think more and more, that might be a strong possibility. His youth, speed, better than expected performance and cheap price mean he might actually fetch something of value, or maybe can be the give-back position cover if the team trades for a CF. Someone is going to take a look at his post ASB and sept numbers and think the kid has it all figured out (.829 OPS). of course, it could be the truth as well.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 09:41 AM) Owens is already better than Pods in every aspect of the game other than doubles/gap hitting. Except cheaper, younger and less prone to injury. I wonder if other teams see him that way. Maybe we can trade him for something of value.
