QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 06:28 PM) You mentioned he was your roommate, well my friend is also my roommate. The more likely scenario is you're myself from a parallel universe. So what is everyone's favorite courses that they have played? Here my five favs: 1. Revere at the Anthem, Concord, Las Vegas 2. Cog Hill GC #1, Lemont IL 3. Oak Grove GC, Harvard IL 4. Bali Hai, Las Vegas 5. Tanna Farms, Geneva IL I really want to play Dubsdread at Cog Hill too. 1. Legends Parkland (SC) 2. Torrey Pines (CA) 3. Talking Stick (AZ) 4. Harborside Port 5. Medina

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) I really want to try out all the courses at Cog Hill one day. Harborside International is another on my to-do list. Harborside is 57 bucks after 3:30, dubsdread isnt worth playing to be honest, stick to course #2 (ravines) for cheaper. Bolingbrook is better than Dubs IMO. For Steve, you gotta get off #1 at Cog, its pretty overpriced for what it is. I would recommend something like Coyote Run which is a similar difficulty but is only 40 bucks.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) So I FINALLY got a set of clubs today. Went to Golf Galaxy in Orland Park. I'm really happy with my selections. They had some great sales. Taylormade Driver, 3 Wood and Hybrid. Nike iron set and an Odyssey putter. Put me back quite a bit, but I'm set for a while when it comes to clubs. Any other golfers out there at SoxTalk? Did you think the equipment would make you good?? I kid. I golf a s***load, at least every week. I play harborside twilight at least once a weekend.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) I am hoping Carlos comes off the DL on Friday. I am going, so it would be awesome to see Carlos back. I think alot of us are going to be very disappointed with how Carlos is with this injury. His defense will be maddening.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) He's having another great offensive year, you don't see me denying that. I don't think he'll consistently be a good offensive player in the future through. His approach leaves a big weakness to breaking balls inside and he just hasn't shown me that he's a smart hitter. And he is no SS. He definitely shy's away from contact on DP's. He's had plays where he dropped the feed because it was obvious he wanted to get out of the way, he's had plays when he did 360 spins to get out of the way, etc. Plus, he doesn't have any leadership qualities you want in a SS. He's a 2B or OF. Leadership qualities? How do you know? Whens the last time you were in the locker room? You are doing nothing but making vague generalizations to cut him down because you cannot come up with anything concrete to say he's not a good player. He's "had plays", come on, 1 or 2 plays depicts the type of player a guy is? Check out other rookie SS's in the league that are playing their FIRST season of pro ball at the position and tell me who is better than Alexei. You will have to go down to A ball stats for some of the guys. And dont come back with he played SS in Cuba, because he really didnt. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) That's completely false. A lot of hitter struggle with certain pitches and pitchers, but a good hitter can hit any pitch in the strikezone if they have a good approach at bat and are smart enough to be able to look for the certain pitch. I call complete bulls***. There are HOF hitters that couldnt do anything with certain pitches, they just knew how to foul them off, or eliminate that part of the plate. Alexei can foul off a breaking ball inside all night which sets up a pitcher to make a mistake, because he's a good hitter that adjusts well. Its pretty clear you are very biased against Alexei, but I would think you could come up with something better than generalities and things you cant prove like leadership.

Just a quick note, I had drinks with Grant Mulvey last thursday, pretty awesome to sit with an old Hawks player and talk about the current team.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 07:47 PM) From watching him this year, the easiest way to get him out would be to throw breaking balls inside, aim them at his hip. There is really no way for him to hit the inside breaking ball with his current approach. Name on player on the White Sox that doesn have a hole in their swing. Thats baseball, any player can get out at any time. Outside of Pujols, every hitter in the league has a pitch he cant do anything with.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) I was Alexei's biggest fan, but the more I see him play, the more I think he'll never come close to reaching his potential. He shy's away from contact at 2B for DP's, has no range to his right (at least at SS), isn't very bright, and I really dislike his approach at bat. He's gonna be a decent player for a while, but a very frustrating one due to his lack of consistency/concentration/baseball IQ. I got no problem trading him while his value is still very high. He's a rookie SS, he will get better and is already a pretty good defensive SS. Shying away from contact? No range? I disagree with both of those assessments. His footwork is a work in progress which is why he tiptoes around the bag during a dp, but once again, he turns a very nice one so who cares. His range right, left and out are VERY good, better than we've had in YEARS. His RF and FPCT are very respectable if not good for a rookie SS. As far as his hitting, dont let your opinion get in the way of facts. He's an extremely good hitter for a middle infielder. Since he's been moved to the 2-hole he is hitting .317 .379 .863 in 46 games. Thats good for the 4th highest OPS on the team behind Dye, Thome and Konerko. He's on pace for 22 HR and 84 RBI as a #2 hitter. Maybe your eyes may dislike his approach, but the numbers speak for themselves.

If you won the lottery, what would you do with your life?

I would do nothing for the first several years, travel and vacation alot. Then settle into a leisure business that I love like working at a golf course. -

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) I don't know about anyone else but I am thinking this is time to trade Alexei or Dye.... Yeah, why wouldnt we trade a nice young shortstop who hits at a premium position and our best player..... -
Yeah, I forgot to move him back into my lineup on fantasy...

White Sox Acquire RP Tony Pena from ARI for Brandon Allen
RockRaines replied to chetkincaid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
See that piece of garbage that just gave up all those runs in tonight's game? The Indians gave up a PROVEN MLB player that plays multiple positions and has hit everywhere he's been for him, and we are pissed at moving Brandon Allen? There is some serious delusion on this board if you think adding another meh prospect to a group of meh prospects was going to net you an elite or even a great player. Pena slots directly into the 7th or 8th inning next year and gets to work with one of the best pitching coaches in the game. Good deal, but all in all nothing really that should warrant more than 5 pages on this board. -
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) I've been a hardcore Sox fan since 1985 and I can tell you that I have never been so excited about a rookie since Frank Thomas. This guy has something special with the quick and compact stroke of his and the ball just seems to pop off his bat. Magglio? Carlos Lee? We've had a few ridiculous hitters come up with the Sox since Frank.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) Not with Mauer, McCann, and maybe Wieters in the league. True. I didn't realize he's only 19. By the time he's established himself, Mauer wont be catching anymore.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) Let's hope Alexei didn't injure any ligaments in his finger. Especially with the way he is playing right now. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) I thought he couldn't field all that well? From what I've seen of him, I think he has the physical talent to be good on both offense and defense, but once again he COULD be that good.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) tentative agreement Huet or bust baby. We must not have been able to find any takers for his contract. Dammit.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) T Beckham (Rays), Posey (Giants), Alvarez (Pirates), Smoak (Rangers), Cashner (Cubs), and our Beckham certainly have the talent to make this one, of not the, best class ever. Gammons said the other night that Smoak, despite how good Beckham has been for us, has the potential to be the best player of this class, like a Chipper Jones type, especially playing in that stadium. Cashner was moved up to AA yesterday after he posted a 1.6 (I might be off on 1.6) ERA in 12 starts for the Cubs single-A affiliate. Buster Posey could eventually be THE premier catcher in the league.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) what the hell are the pirates doing trading legitimate players for... illegitimate ones? Which one was legit? They traded a 29 year old slap hitter for a 5 years younger talented corner OF'er who has shown signs of developing. Outside of the Bay trade, the Pirates have made some real good ones lately.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) Not for me. No one player is worth going through the disaster that was that year. But if you're not going to make the playoffs, I'd rather win 70 games and get a high draft pick then win 89 and pick 24th (I hope greg775 doesn't see this). I'd happily take a Joe Mauer, Albert Pujols etc for going through 1 bad year. -
It doesnt have much to do with the Yankees and the Red Sox. The top tier NL teams would be avg to above avg teams in the AL. Just look at some of the pitching staffs for "contending" teams in the NL. Pathetic.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Prove you're not a middle reliever like I think you are Clayton. The Indians O sucks, and Cliff Lee despite his record is still pretty damn good (not CY Young good like last season) Hoping for a low scoring affair, like a 3-0, 2-1 kind of victory... The Indians have the best offense in our division FYI. They've also scored the 3rd most runs in all of baseball. But yeah, their O sucks.... -
Out of the trio of Konerko, Dye and Thome, JD is the one I would most like to keep at this point, he has been unbelieveable for this team and this franchise. Considering the kind of person he is, and the handshake agreements he's made with JR and management in the past, I dont think they unload JD unless its completely a white flag situation.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 06:51 AM) I was thinking of trying this out today, Im in decent shape but from what I can tell the P90x is pretty intense and involves you to be in good shape almost already before you start it. So, I was thinking of just starting with the P90, and after 90 days switch over. I was also planning to probably just download the videos or something like that, is there anything Id be missing out if I did that as apposed to ordering them through the website? Doing both routines is going to be a waste of money. Even people in great shape will struggle through P90x the first few times through a routine, just do your best and watch how much you improve from week to week.
