i dont think there is much concern about his ability to maintain deep. Hit 97 in the 9th in the 19k no hitter last year. no reason to push him out for more - likely going to go back out there Friday night or Saturday this coming weekend (my guess is theyll throw sunday start on friday night to give rocker and extra day, and then reshuffle the following weekend). Arms galore in the pen too. The command concerns I think are real. He reminds me alot of Carlos Zambrano

Wow I really can’t believe the packages some on here are willing to give up for Burnes. I know the guy was really good in 2020 and the stat cast stuff suggests it’s legit, but he has made just 13 mlb starts. I just hate giving up 3-4 mlb players with years of control for 1 starter, especially given the frequency of injuries to SPs

prior to 2005 i hated the carlos lee for podsednik deal, but it saved a bunch of money and they were able to sign multiple solid but not spectacular pieces cheaply like AJ iguchi el duque. The lynn and eaton deals fill holes while still leaving room for financial flexibility. I'll hold judgement too much until we see how the rest of the money is spent. I'll say this - I am more concerned about RF from a long term perspective, beyond just this year. Limited options to fill internally

When he was cubs TV guy, I didnt like kasper much because of how much of a cubs homer he was, but that's also what i love about my own announcers so I'm optimistic about this. I always respected his ability to call a game. Plus this has to be an ultimate blow to cubs fans which is always great When thinking about the context of this move, its important to remember who Len Kasper is. He is a baseball broadcaster, not a former player turned announcer. For guys who are true broadcasters at their core, I think the ultimate challenge of the craft is to be able to excel at radio. Then the ability to already do so in his own home town and call postseason baseball is icing on the cake. I can only assume he must have approached the cubs about doing radio at some point, and for one reason or another it didnt work out.
