It will be interesting in the National league. They may not be able to do multiple relievers in an inning but with the extra bat on the bench they can roll out multiple pinch hitters on a regular basis.

Yes they do. Teams do not have accomplished veterans at every position. They work in young cost controlled players into the lineup and staff. The issue is you can't do it too many positions at once. That is a rebuild. They currently have established players at C, 1B, SS, 3B, LF and DH. This leaves CF, RF, 2B for the "banking on potential" players. This is how a team like the White Sox who will have a midrange budget needs to operate. That's pretty good for a team coming out of a rebuild.

Much of this will depending on any other minor league offers where the team may pay the AAA pitchers more money. Your "AAAA" players will go where the money is the best if they don't get MLB contracts.

Having your best years late in your career is fine, again it may raise red flags for some. I just don't think he was really ever in the best pitcher currently pitching category for any length of time. He is in the Blyleven category for me really good but could get in because of longevity. However the best years in his late 30s and his public personality I'm sure will hold him back.

I would bet that at least some of the voters look at it this way, right or wrong. Because realistically the only reason he has a case is due to longevity.

Personally I always start with was he ever the best player/pitcher for any length of time? Or least where did he rank . His only claims to the HOF were that he pitched 20 years, which is why he had a high WAR and the 3000 strikeouts.

All of that is a coach's job. Nagy obviously had confidence in him when he only called 6 runs in an entire game. I'm not saying his a great just that when a player regresses that much, the coach has fault in it as well.

I dont know how that sounds stupid. How does a guy get less talented as a 24 year old? If he just played worse, he still has the talent to play like he did then year before. And if he was just playing worse shouldn't a coach that is supposed to be a quarterback whisperer be able to help him.
