  1. Airline sponsors need their money too.
  2. In my opinion the reason why you didn't see the injuries is because most of them happened in the minors and they were weeded out before they even made it to the MLB. There were fewer teams and fewer pitchers were needed so they didn't worry about the ones who couldn't make it. Biomechanically if the pitchers are thrown correctly the split finger is the pitch which is the worst for the arm. All of the others are fairly even. The issues becomes that pitchers try to alter the pitch to make it move more get a different look. The classic example of this is the slider. It's supposed to just break a little down and across. However if the pitcher drops down a litle it moves further across making it much different than the fastball. This howeverputs a lot of strainon the elbow. In today's game the example is adding the velocity and trying for strikeouts. Pitchers in the past would try for soft contact to get outs with fewer pitches to last deep into games. The current philosophy is to throw harder to avoid contact this causes them to throw more pitches and they are out earlier in the game. This is why bullpens are so much more important as theyare usually lesser talented pitchers so whichever tteam has the better lesser talented pitchers wins because the starters are out earlier.

Tough day for Cease. 97 pitches in 4.2 innings. It's a process.
  4. This has a lot to do with it. My son is a senior in high school. The vast majority of his friends stopped playing baseball in junior high. Mostly for 2 reasons. 1. They don't know when the action will happen or if it will happen and they get bored. 2. The kids who do like it need to play all the time or the high school. Coaches don't even look at them for the team. The first things the coaches ask is what traveling teams they played for each summer. The number of Americans playing the game to the MLB has been decreasing at an alarming rate.
  5. So calling out a single individual like Herm or even his staff would both be incorrect. Because he is neither in charge of the staff nor the strength and conditioning.
  6. These are the guys who mostly work in the "preventative care" arena. Again, I'm sure they all work together.
  7. No it's not. While I'm sure he consults with it. There is and are physician's you oversee the entire operation. Herm overseeing the staff would be a violation of his license. He is too busy working with the MLB to really know what's going on elsewhere unless something significant pops p then he may be consulted but it's usually the local physician up to the physician's for the Sox.
  8. Yes because while herm Schneider is in Chicago, he can take care of injuries in great falls.
  9. Probably the iliopsoas. It is one of the primary hip flexors but medial and deep to the rectus femoris and tensor fascia lata which are more commonly injured in pitchers. Good sign that he feels good today. He'll probably be sore tomorrow. Even though I was at the game, it's good they took him out before real damage was done.
  10. They pretty much know already. The physical tests are more functionally accurate then the MRI. They'll know by how much laxity there is. They won't announce anything until after the MRI however.
  11. This is pretty much the approach of all hitters now. Its all launch angle and exit velocity. This is why they use the dramatic shift so much.
  12. Yep. Labral tears are relatively easy to fix, unless they involve stretching the capsule as well then the can get tricky. Reattaching tendons icky. They should come back but the strength after return complicates it.
  13. Hopefully he has the range to swing it properly and limit his swing. The bone should be healed but that doesn't mean the motion has returned.
  14. So is having adequate motion after immobilization post fracture.
  15. I still think SIERA is better than FIP but it really hasn't gotten much attention for some reason.
  16. That's only true if you aren't rooting for a higher draft pick.
  17. The big downfall of WAR, just as it is with most of the similar stats is that it's based on a homemade algorithm of what one person or a group of people think is important. It's fun to compare but it is really subjective time in its measurements.
  18. Don't think the MLB owners would approve Cuban. Didn't they already turn him down? Was it for the Cubs?

He's really playing well this year. Hopefully someone gives him a shot. I'm a little biased from working with him in the Olympics arena but I hope he does well.
  20. This is true. This FO could not seem to get that to work so they are trying a different way. This way really is a more sound philosophy because it allows a middle revenue team to have a longer vision of success. The best thing the FO did was have Hostetler run the draft (except for the bad picks which were of course KW picks). He seems to have made this rebuild more sustainable with more promising players throughout the draft.
  21. This is true with few exceptions. One of them is the Bears where the McCaskeys have no other significant businesses other than the Bears. JR made his money and still does in real estate.

Most of the other affiliates now have legitimate prospects throughout the team. Charlotte will be there next year.
  23. 2 pitchers and one IF we're demoted from Birmingham.
  24. What? Family issues and personal issues don't effect someone's performance at work, especially if you are never there and don't get to see anyone. It's difficult to appreciate the personal hardships of a baseball season. Granted they get paid well once they get to the MLB but not in the minors. I did it for a couple of seasons in the minors and a partial MLB season and had to get out. We didn't get paid like the players though. ?
