I think you'll see a number of trades. My guess is guys like maldy, shame, dejong were told they would be traded or released before the deadline to try to get on playoffs teams. That's why they agreed to play here.
-
Another classic over the decades! ?
-
But he's been doing it for 20 years. You do it for that long, you get to own it. He truly believes it. Others have their own shtick. They are annoying until they get at least a decade in.
-
Considering the pitching staff will look considerably different soon, why not start out with a new group. If he helped even a little with raising the trade value of Crochet, Fedde or Flexen et al. It was worth it.
-
Yeah, these are moves based in Moncada returning and trades soon. Sosa is the inly one they can send down. He'll be back once the trades happen. If there are no trades, he'll be back next year. He's shown he can be a decent bench piece.
-
Eh, dejong, pham and flexen at a minimum are on prove it deals to get traded to a contender.
-
With those stats, I would think that the fact that anyone signed him he would have to be ecstatic and how good his life is.

I'm too old to have 12 conversations at once. You misunderstood my comment on winning. Making the majors is a win for the draft pick because so few actually make it. It doesn't necessarily equate to wins on the MLB team. A winning team is a lot more than just the best players. One if the keys is health. Baseball is such a grind. Who knows what Madrigal or Burdi would have been without thise catastrophic injuries that just arent common.
-
I'll agree with the needing more offense to offset the defense. What the heck do Burdi and Fulner have to do with OPS? They were pitchers.
-
Major league average OPS is 707.There are currently 19 players with an OPS over 850 les than 1 per team. That means nearly every FO needs to be fired because they can't draft. Anytime you get an MLB player from the draft it's a win. Again, I don't disagree they need better defense. But finding good defense and the 850 OPS is nearly impossible. You have to have a blend of it all with the defense up the middle and your big hitters on the edges. If you can find both like Robert Jr you have a star.
-
Could be. I seem to remember an article that Sosa was injured and remillard couldn't be called up at the time.
-
There is more to promotion than numbers. Ramos had to come up as they had no one else who wasn't injured that could play 3B. Age isn't a determinant of readiness unless you truly don't care about a prospect. Which they may not and could bring them up regardless.
-
This would make sense as I'm not sure they have a CF anywhere ready.
-
Colas maybe. Baldwin has barely been in AAA. Why take the chance on rushing him?
-
Who would you rather they waste them on? Rush minor league players who aren't ready?

Interesting. Did the player/agent go back on a deal or did the team not do it's due diligence on the contract demands? -
That is one way. However those players have a higher fail rate then someone who can actual hit. Take burger. They drafted solely based on his EV being one of the best in the nation. He has become an MLB player. This is a win as the vast majority don't. All teams need players who are good at both they are just really hard to find so they try to blend both. I'm not disagreeing with you ,it just not as easy as "draft or trade for players who are both good hitters and good at defense." For years KW drafted athletes and was soundly ridiculed for not drafted baseball players. When the farm system didn't produce they switched to drafting baseball players. He was then knocked for not getting the impact athletes.
-
Everyone would love that. However players that are really good hitters AND really good on defense tend not to be available as the other team wants to keep them. They are rare. The key is to find the balance, excellent defense with passable offense or the other way around. The "athletes" don't always turn out to be good ballplayers.

You can add it but depending on the pitcher, is 1-2 significant? From 92-93,? 98-100. Maybe for some but not others. -

Correct. However with the new age of NIL in college it may cost significantly more to get the HS kids in round 2 to skip school. If you don't believe they are quality prospects, that's a different story. -

Not necessarily bad idea to try for impact. Quality over quantity, I guess. -
