  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) They mentioned the possibility of fusion surgery last winter. From what I was told fusion surgery would end his career. It's possible but I don't think the fusion would necessarily end his career but it takes longer to come back from. You are looking at probably a 9-12 month rehab from a fusion, if return is possible.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) If he rebroke it, we have seen the last of Frank in a Sox uniform. We won't pay him that much money to sit out another year. The only way back is if they pay him something with an incentive laced contract for 2007. if he re-fractured it after 7 months of rehab and playing for only for about 2 months, it may be time to hang them up.
  3. Anyone hear any specifics? We know how KW likes to keep things quiet. It must be something severe if they announced it before the deadline. Either that or Levineline leaked info he shouldn't have and KW is going to let him habe it.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) Nto a surprise.. the don't have much to be graded on in terms of success. Most of their broadcasts are filled with "sigh... the Rays lose again". It's easy to be the best when you're calling winners all the time. I agree. The radio team is new which is tough and trying to call games when you're always losing makes it tougher.
  5. If our fielder's ever decide to catch the ball these are useless points. One game agaist BOS there were 3 unearned runs and one game against KC there were 3 unearned runs. We win both of those and no one is screaming about the bullpen.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) You misunderstood me. You are right there is a test for it, but MLB doesn't have a test for it. And you are right about the last sentence and that is what I said as well. I just wanted to clarify it for others that it is in fact a banned substance by MLB. I didn't want others to think that it wasn't. Gotcha, sorry.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) Then why the hell would the greatest player ever do steroids? To continue a career artificially going longer than it should go.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) That is not entirely true. HGH is not left out of the MLB policy. It is an actual banned substance by MLB. The problem is that they don't have a test for it. So it really doesn't matter if it is banned or not if they don't test for it. But it is a banned substance by MLB. there is a test for it. It's esay to find. Just take a blood sample and test for the levels of growth hormone. The problem is professional sports unions have kept the drug testing to urine samples only. It doesn't matter if it is banned in the policy, if they don't test for it, you won't catch them.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Is HGH not in the MLB Policy or just not tested for? What difference it makes I don't know, but I'm just curious. I know it's not tested for because they don't do blood testing. I don't know if it's mentioned in the policy or not. But without testing it really doesn't matter.
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) Oh, I don't want him. Let me make that one clear. I despise Barry Bonds, and if you ever met any of my friends, you'd know how much I hate steroids and anyone involved with them. You're a doctor, right? You certainly know more about steroids than I do, but I read from a few sources that the guys with the money can stay ahead of the testing because new kinds of steroids are made basically every week. One guy I like to read about is Charles Yesalis. He's an expert in steroids at, I think, Penn State. He seems as cynical as me, which is hard to be HGH is a huge problem and it's laughable that it was left out of the new policy. I'm a physical therapist and athletic trainer. HGH is not only left out of the MLB agreement but also NFL. It's because of the blood sampling that the unions have kept it out. You're right about the development of the new ones. There may be a few takers for Bonds. But with the uncertainty about the steriods and the knee, I think it will scare most off. Did you know that the surgreon he went to has had his medical license revoked for un ethical practice before? He goes to this guy because he will do what he wants. Many teams are leary of this.
  11. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) The richer players can stay ahead of the testing. that's true. Especially if they use HGH which can only be detected with blood samples. However, most steriod users get comfortable with what they are using and it takes them awhile to get used to new ones. Maybe that's why he is taking the time off? Anyway I wouldn't take my chances on a player that needs to find new steriods to keep performing.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) No one? Why is that? I am sure Anaheim would love to have him and they like to spend money as well. Why would no one take him? His attitude? Please, a lot of teams will look right past that and at his 40 HRs a year. Those 40 HR's might not return without "the juice"
  13. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) Like I said. "Corpseball is officially back in season" Goddamn right it's a concern. Pods isn't stealing like he was at the beginning of the year. PK has gotten to the rest of the hitters and everyone is basically trying to pull. PK isn't really productive at all for a #4. Tad can't hit a curveball. What's really hurting us is that we're giving away these games defensively and pitching wise which is how we won games in the beginning of the year. Remember, the playoffs aren't here yet and they might not come this year if we don't get our s*** in gear. That's true. In last Sat. game against Boston Konerko flied out weakly to right trying to go the other way with man on. On Sunday with men on he hit the ball sherply to left and scored the runners. If you are going to beat a dead hjorse so am I. Some people just can't hit the ball with authority the opposite way. All they do is pop it up or fly out. I don't know your background but if you'ver been around baseball long enough you should know some people just can't do it. It's nice to say it but sometimes it's just not possible and you rob them of power. By the way, many people in the MLB community criticize Walker for teaching the Charlie Lau theory of hitting too much and robbing them of power. Just food for thought.
  14. The only way I put Politte in the deal is if we get Mota. Mota is a closer (protection for Hermanson +a closer for next year), Politte while good is pitching over his head and not a closer.
  15. Three starters to go deep in games is all we need. But we can always use bullpen help, especially with the cranky back of hermanson. Pitching and defense, pitching and defense.
  16. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) IMO, it's not just Greg Walker. It's the fact that most major leaguers, when they realize that they can hit more homers, will become enamored of that prospect. Especially when they see how the ball flies out of comiskey. I think that is what happened to a guy like AJ. He saw how the ball flies and alters his approach. Balls that used to bounce off the baggy in Min, fly out of our park.
  17. I think hw is good and getting better. However, I don't think I'm to the point where "I need to have him on the radio shows." It would depend on the replacement.
  18. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) If he does that he's just hurting himself. By reporting to Charlotte he's got another month to prove himself. If he puts up solid numbers in Aug down there he's sure to get called up when the rosters expand. That will give him a chance to compete for a playoff spot on the roster. All of which will greatly enhance his FA value over what he can get now. If he does elect to become a FA (refusing assignment) he forfeits the $. I though playoff rosters has to be set by Aug 31 except for DL players that can be added before the start of the playoffs?
  19. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) Mmm-hai-hey.. GLAYVEN! Sorry, just trying to help clarify things.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Who doesn't like NUKE? You cant not like NUKE. If you do, he'll hunt you down and pull out the HK 47..... Do you mean AK 47, the Soviet made assault rifle. I might be mistaken but I don't think Hechler and Koch make a model 47.
  21. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) No problem. I wasnt trying to be really sarcastic, I figured everyone had taken care of that for me. Alot of people dont really grasp how bad of an injury Thomas had(or still has), and figure its as simple as waiting for the ankle to heal. That isnt close to the truth, he could break the same bone over again if he puts pressure on the right part of his foot. He has screws in his ankle that wont come out. I wouldnt think you would be able to fake swelling in the ankle, or I wouldnt think that he would can the season because he doesnt feel like he is getting good ABs. Actually, the his current problems stem from the original fracture. As your definition stated the navicular was fractured and this led to problems in his arch. The joint between the navicular and the either the talus or the 1st metatarsal has begun to degenerate(per a quote by Schneider in the paper). This also leads to the lowering of the arch and the subsequent increased pressure and inflammation. The arch normally raises and lowers (supination and pronation) during running. It is this motion from a guy 275+ lbs that causes the pain and inflammation.
  22. If anything he may be guilty of trying to do too much with pain. He probably shouldn't have come back this soon.
  23. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) b-b-b-b-but he played in Oakland, very close to Balco! The connection is there! You just have to be imaginative! I always thought that Koch benefited from the immediate results of Tommy John, in which many pitchers gain a little velocity(maybe from the tightness of the new ligaments) and then surely drop to where they were before(some get worse). Its too bad the White Sox had to realize that he was done after everyone else did, but oh well, whats done is done. This is from the difficult rehab process and subsequent strengthening of the arm. It doesn't always maintain because 1) they don't continue the same strengthening process 2) since they aren't pitching they can strengthen the arm on a more consistent basis.
  24. I think the idea behind adding lowell is for a RH DH and guy off the bench in case Thomas can't go anymore.
  25. I think we will see him during at least by sept. to see if he maybe help for the stretch run and into the playoffs. His current problem is a matter of decreasing the inflammation and see ing if he can deal with the pain enough to be effective. Whether he will be effective or not is another story.
