    what a jag

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) I am more worried about the A's winning the wild card. agreed
  2. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) I'm aware.. Apparently my point was lost somewhere. Sorry, my point was I think they downplayed the seriousness of the injury and were far too optimistic about his return. There were far too mny other things going on and he shouldn't have come back as soon as he did, for his overall health. Now, we know that the team's winning takes priority so they gave it a try and he was able to contribute for a little while. They'll try it again for the stretch run and playoffs. Hopefully with another off season of rehab he will be able to return to playing full time.
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) It broke. I don't really know how much more or less serious it could have been reported.. Certain bones heal differently than others. Some have better blood supplies, others due to the shape. I know we've discussed this before but I never thought he would be fully healthy this year if he came back too soon. I was wrong that he couldn't hit early but he couldn't handle the running. With a few weeks off he may be able to play for a few weeks before it gets bad again. Hopefully, he can play into Oct. It will just depend on the infalmmation of the soft tissues of the foot and his pain tolerance.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) Which, if you go to my first post, is exactly what I'm saying about Frank. He's been great, but the years are catching up to him. The wise thing to do at this point is give him his payout, thank him for the memories and retire his number. He's not going to be worth the money he's going to want anymore. Last year's ankle injury was far more serious than anyone let on. I agree. If he can't play cut him lose. But I think with an off season of rehab he can come back as a good DH.
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) Why would you make a guy fly to Cleveland just to release him? What would be so difficult just releasing him before he went to Cleveland. I remember his teammates being very pissed off. They kept him on because JR ordered it. It had nothing to do with Schueler. Right. JR is the softy everyone potraits him to be. Scueler was doing the smart baseball decision by trying to get rid of a player who couldn't play anymore. It doesn't matter if the players were pissed. Do you want a better team or do you want to have a player who can't play on the roster? If they chose the worse team, I wouldn't want them here.

    what a jag

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) He and the rest of the BoSox groupies can go blow. To think they made a movie about these losers and we actually felt bad for these jags last fall. They are just as bad as the Yanks. I hope we sweep their asses in the playoffs. I can see the headlines The lowely Whitesox fall the giants of the great Chowda bay. The best part about that is the script was to be about a guy who almost gives up his love for a losing team who can't make it to the WS. When they actually won it they re-wrote the script. I never felt bad for them.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:22 AM) And they let him fly to Cleveland and released him. So...the fact that kept him on was the greatest compliment they could pay him. What's the difference where they released him?
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 07:34 AM) I'm sure they have all the scenerios given to them by doctors about Frank's ankle. He has already stated he won't be 100% at anytime this season. I think you have to proceed like he won't be back this season. As far as next year, I think that all depends on who the Sox acquire before the deadline and whether they sign them or not. Frank gets a $3.5 million buyout. He has been paid approximately $80 million by the White Sox during his career. He's had a great career but the last few he's been very injury-prone. He can only DH. Call it disrespectful, call it cold, we've all heard JR would never let Frank play anywhere else, but it probably is the wise thing to do at this point in time. Letting him go with a $3.5 million going away gift is far more classy than what Ron Schueler did to Carlton Fisk. That's true. It's not like Schueler kept a guy on the roster who couldn't catch or hit anymore just so he could break the record for most games caught.
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) I think your right on the no trade clause. I think the Sox tried to get him a few times the past couple years with the deals always falling through for one reason or another. However, I also think he's from the Chicago area (maybe I'm wrong) and would consider it with the Sox winning. He could play 1st or DH or OF and would provide left handed pop. But I still don't know how the Sox make room. He is from from the south burbs. He went to Thornwood high school in south holland. He was a patient of mine. He had the best run I have ever seen in HS baseball. In the semis and finals he made only one out. He was either walked or got a hit evey time. He's a really good guy also.
  10. Frank will probably come back in Sept. and deal with the pain in his foot the best he can...again. He will get ready for Oct. with a few weeks of work. The inflammation is an on going problem as a result of the surgery. The surgery was a possible career ender and still may be if the inflammation doesn't stay at a minimal level. I hope it goes down enough that he can continue to play as he is one of my favorites but with the way the rehab and recovery has gone pessimism is the order of the day.
  11. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) Frank has been in a major funk since the start of the Oakland series, but remember, he had an 1.100 OPS through July 6th (remarkable, considering what he is battling through). Right now, his strike-zone judgement is waaay off. He needs a few hundred ABs to work through it...a lot more than just 105 at the major league level. His .315 OBP is a clear indictment. I won't even go into his clutch numbers, they're all terrible figures. After he gets off the DL in early August, he should get maybe 50 ABs in Charlotte to get his strike-zone judgement back up to par. He's check-swinging damn near every time a pitch is thrown right now. I agree, if his foot has improved by then. Not just this "I'll play as long as I can take the pain stuff." Certain types of problems players should play with, not one that will effect the swing of a batter or the mechanics of the pitcher. Those are just asking for more problems down the road.
  12. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:38 PM) God I hope not...we need runs to beat the Red Sox. Having No Dye and No Paul, where are the runs going to come from....Timo and Gload? I think a lot of people on this board overrate Gload, if he was that good, I'd use him for trade bait. I disagree. With the way Paulie has been swinging at everything and usually popping up, he could use a break.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) Seriously AJ needs to stop pulling everything. His power alley is in left center. This is inaccurrate. AJ said in an interview that until this year he has hit matbe one or two homers in his career to left or left center. I know this is a touchy subject but there are guys who are pull hitters and will always be pull hitters. You can't change it. These are guys who teams have used the "shift" against such as Bonds, Thome and to go way back Ted Williams. I'm not saying its for eveyone but people here have beaten this horse to ashes.
  14. I hope Gload is in for Paulie tonight against the knuckleballer
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) Yep. Frank's not even close to being 'right'. Whether it's his ankle or rust that's causing it, we can't afford his lack of production. If it's rust, put him back on the DL and let him shake it off in Charlotte on another rehab. Gload, at this point in time will contribute much more than Frank. I've been saying all along that there is alot going on with the foot and they brought him back too early. He can't even jog without a limp. He will not be able to hit effectively given his size and hitting style with the ankle in that condition. They need to give him the rest and rehab to be effective down the stretch. This could be a "trade from within" to give a boost later with a healthier more effective Thomas.
  16. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) Haggerty was sent down before Gonzalez got hurt. Not sure when Young got hurt but it does appear to be a pulled muscle in his side. If that is the case, it may be a long recovery. Would not be easy to hit, and especially with any power like that. Garcia was okay to play today, but Razor kept him on the bench as insurance and flexibility. I think they should let Phillips DH for the time being. He can swing a bat. Thats true. If the strained muscle is in his ribs or abdominals it will take quite awhile to heal. These muscles are so thick and provide all of the trunk rotation during the swing. even if they are just sore it robs players of a lot of power and speed during the swing.
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) Well I guess part of it is, there are really only a handful of guys who follow the prospects closely and as such, no one sees all the ink or positive comments on Valido. On the steroids thing, I think he got caught with an energy drink type supplement, I don't think this guy was sticking a needle in his rear end. But who knows. The question on Valido was always his bat, and it's one reason why he lasted until the 4th round. He is beginning to answer those questions and has managed to hit at a very promising rate in High A at age 20. I saw him play in Tucson and he is remarkably smooth for a 19 year old (at the time), plus he appeared to have excellent instincts. I didn't see him running the bases much but when he did, he knew what he was doing. To be frank, this is one guy I hope they don't trade because the Sox have been so bad about developing SS and this guy looks like he could have a good chance to make it. He is big and getting stronger and should be durable, he has the defensive skills and is developing at the plate. All very good signs. I agree with everything you said. Word on the grapevine is that he was using a supplement which caused the positive test. Good shortstops who can field and hit are hard to find. He should be as untouchable as anyone in the minors.
  18. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 07:57 AM) A game in which Parque left too early, if I recall. Parque's shoulder was also hurting. He pitched through pain, had off season surgery and was never heard from again. The 2000 playoff problem (other than all of the hitters hitting pop ups) was no healthy pitchers.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) Maroth is working SLLOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW. Maroth as in sloth
  20. QUOTE(winodj @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) Not quite give. We have to provide three churros and a beer to be named later. It's Milwaukee, don't you mean three Brats and a Blatz.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) I'm a bit confused...how exactly does a catcher end up needing Tommy John surgery? That surgery becomes needed when the ligament at the bottom of an elbow snaps...almost always due to some sort of repetitive motion, which is why you see it so commonly in pitchers. ANd it usually takes a lot of stress to make that thing snap. Has Davis been working on his fastball in his spare time? The injury is caused from throwing. Catchers are particularly suceptible because of the quick release, short arming the throw. Pitchers get it from repetitive thowing especially if they drop to a 3/4 arm angle or lower. Either way it's when the humerus gets ahead of the forearm and creates a high velocity torque to pull them apart. Through various studies it has been shown that almost all throws create enough torque to tear the ligament. It is only through proper mechanics and musculature that it doesn't tear. Catchers with the short time to get rid of the ball usually use poor mechanics and the ligament loosens then can tear. The stress from a throw goes to the ulnar nerve which is under the ligament if the ligament is loose. So, every throw can feel like "hitting your funny bone." This problem is probably almost as common in catchers as pitchers percentage wise, its just that there are many more pitchers out there.
  22. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) Flubs fans already use it as one. It usually smells like one
  23. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 11:01 PM) 10th in runs scored is actually good considering their low team AVG and OBP. true, but the goal of the offense is to score runs. It doesn't matter how. We need to find some way to increase it. Of course we outscored the Twins the last few years and lost the division, maybe the run differential could show something.
  24. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/sortab...05&sortByStat=R The Sox are ranked 10th in the MLB in runs scored with 360. This is cause for some concern. I think to win it all, which is the goal, we do need to pick that up a bit.
  25. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) What's more important, AVG or runs scored? good point, where are we in runs scored another one may be run differential
