QUOTE (madbilly @ Oct 21, 2009 -> 09:02 AM) The problem with that is chances are we don't have the "budget" flexibility to get really revamp the pen. We can either spend it all on one good 7th/8th inning pitcher or go out and get 2/3 good complimentary pitchers to round out the pen. As of right now we need another lefty and someone to take over that 7th/8th inning roll that Dotel had. Is Jimmy Williams good enough to be the second lefty, I know he was good when we first called him up but then went through a rough patch. Is Pena going to take over for Dotel? What about DJ do we move him out of long relief to help out in the later inning. If we do that then do Torres & Hudson fill the long relief roll? In my opinon our pen is the biggest concern this off season. Randy Williams?

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 12:18 AM) Just got back from Paranormal Activity, I don't think sleep is an option for me tonight. That movie was scary as hell. Wow. TOLD YA! (I think I gotta see it again)

Something to consider on the potential trade front.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 08:34 AM) They want to cut down on Mark's innings. Moving a guy down from #1 to #4 is not going to do that significantly. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) I just don't see much to like in the movie. If I had kids, I'd definitely go, but I didn't read the book as a child and can't say I'm too interested in seeing it. How did you miss the book? It was rammed down our throats in suburban Chgo.......

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 09:49 AM) This is a nice take. The only thing I disagree with is the notion that teams can't pay #4 starters $14M. Buehrle is a #3 who might end up pitching out of the #4 spot, which isn't a bad thing it all because it signals a nasty top-3. To be realistic though, Buehrle is a #2 who will probably end up pitching out of the #1 spot. He's earned it, and what does it really matter? Neither Danks or Floyd have proved they have the consistency to supplant Buehrle from that spot, and while his consistency wasn't always there this past year either, he's the face of the franchise, has a WS ring and has two no-hitters in his resume. For my money, he still starts Opening Day. Peavy starts day 2. -
Paranormal Activity is the scariest movie I have seen in YEARS. Holy crap.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) No, Mark's value was never LOWER at that point. Mark didn't have a contract beyond that season. He was a rental for a half season that would garner 2 draft picks if he declined arbitration. That's it. You guys who think Mark should be traded need to have your heads examined. Go back and look at the perfect game threads. Every motherf***er here was slobbering all over his nuts, as we all should, and every single sports media outlet was going on about how under-appreciated he is, and how the fans outside of Chicago don't understand how good he is. Now you same motherf***ers want to trade him AS SOON as we acquire a starting staff to complement him. Go burn your Sox hats. You make me sick! I agree with everything in this post. KHP is right. Trading Buehrle is a huge mistake, and will never happen, so why even talk about it? -
There are a lot of easy criticsm that can be lobbed at this list. It's so faulty it's almost not worth being mad at it, but here goes...... You Gots to Chill is the EPMD song over Crossover or Headbanger? LL gets two songs on here, but neither are high enough. Can't Live Without My Radio should be Top 5, and I Need Love was one of the first hip-hop love songs and should be early-20s at least. It's 60. Also, where's Goin Back to Cali? Hold It Now, Hit It over Paul Revere, No Sleep Til Brooklyn, Fight for Your Right to Party, Hey Ladies, etc? I'd have chosen Pusherman over Colors for Ice-T's entry (and maybe even Cop Killer) but why not give him a few slots? Juicy for Biggie? And that's it? Are they crazy? Where's Big Poppa? Where's Hypnotize? Where's Ready to Die? Only one NWA song?!!!!! Where's Gangsta Gangsta, f*** the Police, Boyz in the Hood, etc? Can I get ONE Eazy solo song? Meth's All I Need is #44??? love Nuttin But a G Thang, but Top 5 of all time? Uh, no. 15-20 is about right. There's tons more to complain about but here's a start.......

1. Zeus overthows Titans 2. Athena, Apollo, Aphrodite, etc escape from Zeus' head. 3. Prometheus bring fire to humans. 4. Hades steals Persephone from Demeter. 5. Paul invents Christianity.

Dodgers in 7.

Angels win this in 5 I think. I don't think NY's pitching is all that.

Oy, Contreras! Oh no!!!!

All the pre-arb guys will make closer to $400K than $500K. Maybe the Sox will sign Beckham to a long term deal, but I don't think so this offseason.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) I just finished watching Inglorious Basterds. I haven't been this disappointed from a movie in quite awhile. I know this discussion was had near the films theatrical release, but honestly, did anyone feel unsettled in numerous scenes because it just seemed to drag on for too long? It has become his trademark. A perfect example of this would be the scene where "Bear Jew" was inside the cave banging his bat, intimidating the Nazi soldier. It wasn't building suspense in my mind. I was just thinking, "get out of the f***ing cave already!" The entire tavern scene was excruciating to sit through, as well. And yes, because I can anticipate the replies, I knew the trailers misguided the public into believing it was an action flick revolving around Pitt's character. I had already known much of what happened, I just have to admit, it didn't live up to the standards I hold for Tarantino. I didn't really think much of the dialogue, or the characters (aside from the woman who owned the theater), and I certaintly didn't care for the action or suspense. I can't knock everyone's appreciation for this movie. There are probably countless fans (many on this board) who can articulate their appreciation for the movie. Fine. But what I feel is too many Quentin Tarantino fan-boys are praising this movie because he's involved. It' reminds me of the Boondock Saints fan base, where honoring the movie has become a cult all in itself. AGREED AGREED AGREED. He needs an editor who's not a yes-man in the worst way. That tavern scene could have been SO MUCH BETTER. The dialogue (and that stupid game) just killed it.

I for one, am more excied about the Weezer album after that article. I've never been that much of a Weezer album, but I do thinnk Pinkerton is a masterpiece and the Blue Album not far behind. The problem with their last few albums is that they've become way too formulaic - apart from a couple singles each, the rest of the album is awful crap. So why not try and shake things up? Cuomo has always flirted with being a straight ahead pop songwriter (Buddy Holly, Hash Pipe) and it's clear this has always been a big influence on him-- but it's not cool to admit you have Beyonce, Hannah Montana, or Aly & AJ on your itunes, let alone pimp their music. But that music is pop at its purest - verses, choruses, and no pretension. I love the single. it doesn't sound like Disney-pop to me, more like 60s British Invasion rock, and it's totally infectious. Can the rest of the album carry this vibe or will it fade after the first 3 songs into self-indulgent tripe? I hope not. I'm less excited with Lil Wayne on a Weezer track, but hey, at least they're trying new things now, and not churching out the same old s***. I hope it's good. As for Butch Walker, I saw him a few months ago - his latest album is awesome. It's a lot more personal, but the melodies and songs are there as always. And his live album has been a staple in my car for the last year. Avril Lavigne-aside, his stuff is way underrated.

You'd think they could spell Thornton right. (esp since he'll be our closer next year!)

saw Kylie Minogue at the Hollywood Bowl last night - an amazing, fun show. The music wasn't going to cure cancer, but for pure fun from beginning to end, I felt like I had gotten more than my money's worth. Lavish sets, spectacle, songs - it was hard to believe she had never played in the US before this tour. Great stuff.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 08:08 AM) So you don't like the rap in rap music.... No, I like the rap, but with early artists like LL Cool J, Public Enemy, & early NWA, the music was every bit as good as the lyrics. Where would those artists be with today's average production instead of Rick Rubin, the Bomb Squad, or Dr. Dre?? Or Gang Starr with DJ Premier..... that's the stuff that is in short supply today.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) Or perhaps he sugar-coats stuff like Merkin. Gotta get those season ticket applications filled. Rays season ticket holder: "NO CRAWFORD OR UPTON?!" "I ain't sending them s***!" He doesn't write for mlb.com - it's a legit source that doesn't need a rahrah cheerleader-type.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) That article stinks. Basically everyone is coming back, and none of the kids has a spot yet? Iwamura will not be the biggest name to not come back. You might be right, but wouldn't their Beat writer know more about them than Sox fans who don't live in the market?
