  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 05:06 PM) Very true. I am scared to death to start a new thread ever. And believe me, I'd be starting a ton of threads if this board was new-thread-friendly. All the more reason for me to approve the catch-all thread.
  2. I haven't weighed in on this but I feel that I should, since that old SI incident was brought up. I STILL believe rumors are fair game on, and good for, a message board format. We are not professional journalists, nor do we pretend to be. We are fans discussing baseball and rumors are naturally going be part of the conversation. This rumor was out there and of course it was going be discussed here, and microscopically scrutinized. Nobody threw AJ under bus, but there were some that were, well, checking the bus schedule, I believe. No one seems absolutely sure how or where this started but as far as Soxtalk is concerned, I'm not throwing anybody under that bus either. The rumor was out there, it was brought to the attention of the board and discussed. Very similar situation to the SI incident before that jerk from SI printed it.
  3. I'll take a younger up and coming Viciedo over an older and always breaking down Quentin at any time. If you consider that we were not to supposed to be anywhere near as good as we have been, dumping Q and giving V the opportunity was the right move.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 10:34 PM) It is very difficult to be a team's 9 hitter for a very long time. Eventually (and usually sooner rather than later) the team will believe it has a young player that can outperform him...and then he goes elsewhere to be a 9 hitter. If he wants a long stay on the South Side, he better start hitting better or hope there are no good FA 2B's in the next 10 years and hope that Carlos Sanchez flames out entirely You may be right, but I never underestimate the value of defense and Gordon is very, very good in that area.
  5. I find it funny that they called the Sox a second class citizen in their own city when Detroit is the armpit of America.
  6. I'm not going to throw Tyler under the bus. I think he has a chance to be a solid ML catcher. Until he gets a shot at being the starter, you don't know ... but he's shown me enough to deserve the shot.
  7. Danks, Floyd, Peavy, Humber & Sale. Peavy and Sale were questions marks as far as health goes. Today, Peavy and Sale and some guy the Yankees let go are our anchors. Oh ... one final point, after all this, we are in first place. Baseball is a very funny, strange, unpredictable game.
  8. My only question is will this umpiring crew be doing the Sox/Tigers series?
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) 70-55. How about we get to 80 wins before 60 losses? That's a helluva plan!
  10. Props to Tyler Flowers! A dinger to tie it and a 2 strike ass kicking bunt to move Rios to third the proved to be the winning run.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) For whatever reason they keep coming up with the cash. I didnt think it was possible before they ran out and grabbed Yu Darvish, but it seems like that ownership group is intent on spending with the big boys Wherever Hamilton goes, if he goes to a big city he is probably going to hire a service like Aerosmith did to keep him away from the drugs If I remember correctly, the Rangers got a HUGE TV deal and that opened up the cashflow for them.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 10:00 AM) you know the Sox game was crazy when there is not ONE comment about the preseason game last night I didn't even check to if the Bears were on TV done here. The Sox are in a tight pennant race and it was a preseason Bears game.
  13. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 09:40 AM) Troy Renck, Rockies ‏@TroyRenck RT @Buster_ESPN Astros say they're open to having Clemens pitch for them at age 50, but not as a stunt If he does come back to pitch. He would have played in 4 decades. If he comes back to pitch it is a stunt. Roger Clemens has and apparently is continuing to turn a HOF career into a sad, pathetic joke.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 09:34 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ Still seeing that big question mark on your link ...
  15. I've checked ESPN, MLB and sportingnews dot coms and am seeing nothing that says this is a done deal. Is it a done deal and is there an up do date link if it is?
  16. Wedge came out and got with the umps ... he wasn't questioning whether or not the ball was caught, he was saying that Paulie passed Youk on the basepaths. Paulie couldn't have caught and passed Youk if Youk was in a wheelchair.
  17. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 04:27 PM) Jim Bowden also retweeted this: Blockbuster: red Sox, Dodgers working on deal that would send AGon, Crawford, Beckett and Punto to LA. Hurdles remain, but closing in If Boston can pull this off then they out Thoe'd Thoe.

    2013

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 02:42 PM) Stunning that this post happened, did not see that one coming I thought this post was a tongue-in-cheek response, which I can appreciate. Then I saw your response to JoeCoolMan that I interpreted as you are just being ... how shall I say it ... Uppity. Which told me there was nothing tongue-in-cheek about the previously mentioned post. Now, if I have misinterpreted things then I apologize in advance but I was just making an off the cuff remark with which I meant no disrespect.

    2013

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) And much of what happens in 2012 dictates what happens in 2013. For example if we collapse and don't make the playoffs, say good-bye to Myers, Youk, Liriano, and Peavy at least. If we make a deep playoff run, it increases the likelihood that they would be back. Which is why I'm focused on 2012.

    2013

I'm not worried about 2013 right niow. 2012 is the priority.
  21. QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 12:34 PM) Seattle sucks. I hope they suck for the next 3 games.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) In an exercise of small samples, Liriano has been the most successful of all of the SPs acquired during the season by an AL team. http://www.southsidesox.com/2012/8/24/3261...traded-pitchers Aren't trade deadline aquisitions small samples by definition?
  23. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) It's time for someone in baseball to say "screw the union". Do you actually have a point that you want to make, or is this just a political anti-union point of view? That fact remains that the union would never agree to that, and it would have to do so for it to be implemented.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 12:38 PM) Boy that is a pretty big limb to go out on... ... with approximately 25% of the season left.
