  1. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) Is that even correct that most Sox fans want the stadium to be changed back to Comiskey Park? Have the fans been polled? The more I've read up on Charles Comiskey, the more the guy seemed to be a douchebag. And it's not like old or new Comiskey Park was associated with a grand legacy of winning World Series like Yankee Stadium. I'd be open to something entirely different and new. I couldn't tell you for sure if it's accurate. Given that most baseball fans love tradition, and every Sox fan that has ever expressed a stadium name preference to me has stated they'd like a return to Comiskey Park, I assumed that that was the case, and I'll grant that my assumption could be wrong. That said, it doesn't seem that anyone likes this name, and for the peanuts they're getting in the rights deal, they might end up making more by taking the naming rights back and doing something with it that will make the fans happy. I know that apparently Guaranteed Rate sweetened their offer by adding a large advertising package in which all of the money goes directly to the team, but I think they would've been willing to do that anyway. Either way, I'm going to continue to call it Comiskey Park, just as I did when U.S. Cellular had the naming rights.
  2. One thing that hasn't really been mentioned is how little they're paying for the naming rights. As the deadspin article pointed out, this deal is $2.4 million AAV below league average. Further, if the White Sox are so cash hungry, why not keep the naming rights and change the name back to Comiskey Park, like most Sox fans want anyway, and just go forward with a full rebuild, which will put a lot more than $2 million AAV into the owners' pockets, and then go for a Citi Field-esque naming rights deal when a competitive team emerges from the talent purge?
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 05:11 PM) I'm not from Chicago but I do think you're spot on with your analysis about no "Chicago fans". That's like asking a Jets fan to root for the Giants in the super bowl. Good luck. I'll bet those Yankee fans were just cheering their hearts out for the Mets last year, too.
  4. The 2016 draft class had a great deal of early success from several of its members, most notably Zack Burdi, Alec Hansen, Alex Call, Jameson Fisher, and Aaron Schnurbusch. 1) What does the organization plan to do with these players to help them build on their early success? 2) How did the organizational scouting philosophy yield these players? Asked another way, what traits did the organization's scouts identify that made them attractive as draft picks, and how will they go about identifying those same traits in other draft prospects moving forward?
  5. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Oct 30, 2016 -> 08:21 PM) That's a ridiculous hypothetical. Point stands: Cubs aren't trading Bryant for anyone. And to think Sale nets Bryant is ridiculous. Why would they help the Cubs? Because it would help us as well. To anyone who actually thought that I thought a trade involving Bryant would go down, I guess I should've used green font, because I don't, but the larger point was that it's the Cubs. I don't want the White Sox to trade a player like Sale to the Cubs unless it destroys their team entirely. The trade would have to be something like Bryant, Contreras, Russell, Schwarber, Fowler (which of course they wouldn't do unless Theo got a TBI and didn't tell anyone until he executed the trade) before I would be okay with Sale going to the Cubs. They and the rest of the AL Central are the teams that would have to franchise-destroyingly overpay to get Sale in my book.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 30, 2016 -> 06:36 PM) Bryant >>>>>> Sale, so not happening. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 30, 2016 -> 06:43 PM) Bryant is already better than Sale is. No chance that happens. Then they don't get Sale. Simple. Why on Earth would the White Sox help the Cubs?
  7. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 30, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) This is an intriguing, yet impossible thought for sure. I think everyone knows that Schwarber is a DH playing in the NL. If the Cubs were smart, they would deal Schwarber for a front line starting pitcher. If the Cubs want Sale, the White Sox will likely request Schwarber AND Baez. I just don't see the Cubs ever giving up on Baez. Although, if the Cubs do enter a bidding war with Boston, Texas etc-- a Baez/Schwarber package might be the most intriguing. Any Sale to the Cubs deal starts with Bryant and Contreras, though Schwarber would be a nice throw in. They're the Cubs, they would have to worse than Shelby Miller overpay to get Sale.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 27, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) Whats your point though? That hey maybe 30 years ago it was "close" to even? As of the last couple decades and for pretty much as long as baseball exists Chicago will be a Cubs town. The sox are never going to even it up. You can't know that for sure. I mean, sure, that's true as long as Reinsdorf is alive, but he's old and once he dies, maybe the current ownership group decides to sell and we get an owner like the one we should've had in the 80s, Eddie DeBartolo, who went on to own the 49ers in the 80s when his bid to own the Sox was shut down by MLB. You may have heard a thing or two about the 49ers of the 80s and 90s, and the catalyst for all of it was a man who really wanted to own the White Sox instead. Imagining how different things would be with that one small change makes me angry at times, this may very well be a Sox town right now had MLB allowed him to buy the team. That said, it all comes down to winning. Even if you buy into the notion that people are predisposed to becoming Cubs fans in Chicago, if the White Sox are wildly successful for a sustained period while the Cubs have just about any 10+ year performance out of their last 50 or so years of history, that will change. The ultimate problem is that JR has, for the most part, not offered a superior alternative, so people just pick who their parents or grandparents picked.
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 27, 2016 -> 11:36 AM) Cubs coverage can get nauseating for some die-hard White Sox fans http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/dail...1025-story.html The conclusion of the article is wrong. If they somehow do manage to win, Cubs fans will NEVER shut up about it, and it will receive endless media coverage for the entire offseason.
  10. This is the nightmare, no win scenario.
  11. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) No, it doesn't. Top 20 hitter in baseball are some of the best hitters in baseball. There, all cleared up. Those elite hitters almost never get traded. It's guys on Melky's tier, who would be the 3rd-5th best hitter on a contender, that get traded.
  12. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 01:33 AM) One of the best hitters? Melky ranked 64th in wRC+ and 75th in offensive WAR. The only thing he's elite at offensively is making contact. 9th lowest K% in majors and 12th in contact%. So being the 64th or 75th best hitter on all 30 teams doesn't make a player "one of the best hitters in baseball"? I'm confused as to how that works, could you please explain?
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 15, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) Tomlin is bound to get lit up sometime this postseason. He's not this good... Let's hope it happens in the next 2-3 innings.
  14. Blue Jays vs. Dodgers sounds like a nice World Series.
  15. QUOTE (RegionSox @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 10:03 AM) So why would the director of player development move to third base coach? Seems very puzzling. That makes no sense to me. Why make a scout a coach? And a very important scout at that. Scouts and coaches are not interchangeable.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) I honestly think it's a toss up if they'll start him game 2 or 3. Guess we'll find out soon. I'd go by the result of Game 1. 1-0 Dodgers, save Kershaw for Game 3. 0-1 Dodgers, throw Kershaw to give the best chance of evening up going to LA.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 10:16 PM) When Arrieta went deep yesterday I thought it was over. I am hoping to see this one come back to Chicago... I'll take Cueto in Game 5 to send them home crying.
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) But should still count as balls in play. And they do, at least as far as I'm aware, but I'm not the BABIP police.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 01:08 PM) What about an inside the park homer? Those are so rare as to be statistically irrelevant.
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) Weird how a HR isn't a ball in play . Any ball hit between the foul poles should be considered in play. HR hitters shouldn't be penalized for what's considered the best struck ball you can hit. Might not be the hardest hit but distance counts in this game whether or not it's hit like a rocket. Not really. By definition, a home run is not "in play", as the defense can neither catch the ball for an out, nor can they throw to a base timely to get the hitter out. A home run is one of the three true outcomes (HR, K, BB), none of which effect BABIP.
  21. Why is a Sale trade being discussed in a thread about Cespedes opting out of his current contract? A Sale trade would signal a full rebuild and should logically be followed by trading Q, Frazier, Cabrera, Robertson, Abreu...pretty much everyone for whom a decent return could be had except Eaton, Anderson, and Rodon. Meanwhile, signing Cespedes would be a clear signal that the White Sox intend to compete in 2017. This doesn't make sense.
  22. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 10:57 PM) Brutal call and literally cost them the game. Well hopefully that will bias the umps toward the Giants for the remainder of the series.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) Question is if and when the Cubs win a WS will there fans finally STFU? No, they'd be more annoying than ever. Hopefully the Giants keep up their even year streak.
  24. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 06:03 PM) That would be such an awful trade on the face of it. Urias, best case, is basically Chris Sale who has no loyalty to your org and who will probably not be signing a pre-arb deal for 20-30% of what he'd get on the free market. Urias is a helluva talent but if you trade Chris Sale you trade for established production position players that are young (under 28 or so) but that have proven they can produce at an average or better level. Sox need more of those guys, especially in the OF. I wasn't suggesting a 1 for 1, but the Dodgers literally announced publicly that they were willing to trade Urias in a package for Sale.
  25. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 09:28 AM) Boston and LA aren't giving up that much for Sale and Quintana. If I'm a playoff team, I'd be concern with Sale since he has inevitably faded in the second half each of the past 4 years, and that's without throwing a single pitch in the playoffs. Urias has a chance to be something special, no reason to think he couldn't throw 160 innings next year. He's definitely MLB ready, so he's worth more than Quintana alone. There's only realistically 3-4 guys Dodgers would trade him for, and none of which are pitchers. Urias was on the table for Sale at the deadline. What do you think has changed since then?
