It's nice when statistics confirm that a trend you notice isn't just in your head. Anyone think the Sox could put a package together for Lucroy? I know it would have to include Fulmer, but even with him, do the Sox have the pieces to make it work?

He performed so well there that the organization gave him a late season promotion to Great Falls, where he struggled a little to close out the season. In 2016, Zangari opened the season in A ball with the Kannapolis Intimidators, where he struggled mightily, failing to hit even .200 with the club. The White Sox recently decided to demote Zangari to Great Falls, where he is facing more age appropriate competition (though he's still 1.5 years younger than league average), and he has been on a tear in the 5 games he's played with the Voyagers, sporting a .333 average with an OPS of 1.131. The hope is that the assignment was just a little too aggressive for Corey, and that he'll continue mashing at Great Falls and be ready for a promotion back to Kannapolis either by season's end or heading into 2017. Mike Trout for 3 reasons: 1) Middle of the order bat they so desperately need. 2) Plays CF, meaning Eaton can be the elite RF he was in the first half of the season. 3) I feel Rodon will develop into a frontline starter (see: one of the 10-20 best in baseball), Shields is not as bad as his last three outings and will make a high end 4, and the team can find/develop a 5th starter, Miguel Gonzalez has been mostly serviceable to this point. Also, this lineup makes me salivate: 1) SS Anderson 2) RF Eaton 3) CF Trout 4) 1B Abreu 5) 3B Frazier 6) LF Cabrera 7) 2B Lawrie 8) DH Garcia 9) C Avila/Navarro I don't even care that the last spot is a black hole and the 8 spot is below average production for a DH, that top 7 will more than make up for it.

Wasn't a big part of the hot start the patience of the hitters? If so, shouldn't that be what they're trying to replicate now?

So, potential wise, is his ceiling something close to Buster Posey? Because if the Sox could have something like that, that would be a strong part of a foundation for a really good team.

Why would you not throw the best starters you can at a division rival and the defending world champions? Not pitching Sale in this series to get Gonzalez a start is incomprehensibly stupid.

So Gonzalez gets skipped then, right?

This is actually a great idea, but the Sox won't be the franchise to do it. When was the last time the White Sox did anything that resembled an innovative program that no one else had tried? They're just not the type of franchise to do this sort of thing. Maybe with a different owner, but not the current ownership group.

The real question is: Will he sign before pitchers and catchers report?

The White Sox are concerned about payroll this year, so why not structure a deal like this: Year 1: $10 million Year 2: $20 million Year 3: $20 million Year 4: $20 million Year 5: $20 million mutual option with team buyout of $10 million Year 6: $20 million mutual option with team buyout of $10 million That way, the worst case for him is he opts out after year 4 having made $70 million and thinking he can get more than $40 million for the next 2-3 seasons. If the team decides to walk, it's a minimum 4/$80 deal, with maximum potential of 6/$110. That seems to be a better deal than anything he's being offered at the moment.

4 things make Cespedes more attractive to me than Gordon: 1) He's younger and fits better with the age of the core of the team that has been assembled. 2) He doesn't cost a comp pick. 3) He seems to be the more likely of the two to be able to transition to RF. 4) He can legitimately bat cleanup, Gordon can't.

The problem I have with this idea is that Danks actually added value last year, and LaRoche didn't. I think I've seen the theory here before that each additional WAR a player produces is worth about $5 million AAV on a contract. If that's the case, Danks earned $9 million of his contract last year. LaRoche, on the other hand, would need to pay his entire salary plus $7 million back to the team for his performance last year. That's why I think if they can't trade him, they should seriously consider releasing him, and they should not let his contract enter into their decision on pursuing other FA/trade options.

I find it humorous that Frazier's closest offensive comp at age 29 is Joe Crede, because I've often thought that Crede's steady .250ish average, 20-30 HRs, and 70-80 RBIs with extremely solid defense would be a perennial all-star in today's game.
