  1. Just checking in to say this is my favorite thread title. Non-partisan reasons. I just find it funny.
  2. I didn't even notice the points. I just thought it was the draft order. I was actually going to ask if anyone had the chart that showed draft value. Shows how much I pay attention. And, in reply to Soxfan49, I wasn't suggesting two 1s and two 2s for the Bears' #8 - just noticed that NE had the picks and motivation in a qb heavy first round to make the Bears' pick attractive.
  3. I'd like to see them trade with NE (who has two 1st round and two 2nd) round picks. The Pats have to be in the market for Brady's replacement again. It would be interesting to see what the 8th pick is worth.
  4. Nope. Not allowed to chance your opinion on any topic on a message board. Pick a lane and stay in it.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 05:13 PM) His Cheers episodes were great as well. Only 65 Just came back to post pretty much these exact words. Of course, Cheers was just a great show. Not sure if it holds up, but great for its time for sure.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 06:56 AM) R. Lee Ermey, 74, the drill instructor from Full Metal Jacket As a youngster, I saw the basic training portion of that movie so many times randomly on TV, but I never realized there was a whole second part of the movie in Vietnam. I thought that was it, lol. It's like how "Stripes" should have ended after the graduation performance, but it has 30 minutes tacked on to the end that is totally skipable.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 09:58 AM) 10 Degrees: MLB's enormous attendance drop due to bad weather or something far worse for baseball? https://sports.yahoo.com/10-degrees-mlbs-en...-152051024.html What about Kaepernik? Has anyone thought about blaming him for attendance woes? I know he was the reason for NFL ratings declining.
  8. Saw "A Quiet Place" yesterday. I'd give it a thumbs up. Good idea that's executed well. I jumped several times, so the suspense was well executed. 90 minutes is the perfect length for this movie.
  9. I like the idea. I wish they had done it, but I doubt they would have built the park with h those dimensions. They would have turned it some to make the lines longer. Maybe higher oufield walls in the corners to compensate. That said, the G is a fine place to see a game. Not special, but not bad. It's all about winning consistently. They can't have one good year followed by several bad if they want crowds.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 11:27 AM) True story...when my dad got remarried, I landed on the day of the wedding and arrived (and my dad had picked up my tux so it was waiting)....well, it turns out I had a "capri" tux because they had totally botched the measurements. Literally, the pants were like 8 inches off of my shoe. It was horrible (but hillarious). It was just a small wedding with only family so not a huge deal (only money spent was on a local photographer and food), but all pictures (except a few funny ones) had to be taken from the waist up. But I would had to have the situation reversed and that happen at like my daughters wedding or something. So basically...just don't be the goofball that doesn't try on a tux in advance to make sure nothing is wrong the day of the event. Haha. I know Gingiss messed up in one way or another every single tux rented for my wedding. Your Capri tux is hilarious and reminds me of one of the hardest laughs I've ever had. A friend got married in STL, so several of us drove down from Chicago and headed straight to the tux rental place on the day before the wedding. We all tried on our tuxes, and the last guy came out and his pants were short. Not quite capris, but short enough that his socks were visible. It was summer, so we came in to the place in shorts, and he was wearing white socks. When he came out of the fitting room, I just started laughing and told him his pants were too short. He disagreed. He insisted they weren't, and every time he bent forward to see what I was seeing, his pants hiked up a little. I could not stop laughing at his confusion. Twenty years later, it still make me smile to think about.
  11. I finally got around to seeing Moonlight. I wasn't blown away. The first 2/3 have really good performances. I wouldn't have a problem with it winning acting awards. But, as a film, it was only ok/good. There is a newish trend in movies where the performances are good, but the movie seems to have no resolution. This fits that trend. I thought the same thing about Lady Bird and Phantom Thread this year. Some really good performances, I didn't hate the movies, but in the end I was left wondering what the point was.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:48 AM) I like Stone a lot. I don’t really get the issues folks take with him. I think it'a because of his time with the Cubs. Some Sox fans can't get over it. If you follow NFL, everyone was wild about Tony Romo this year because he was able to "predict" plays by recognizing the formations. Stone has been doing this for years in baseball. Predicting pitches, location, hit & run, etc. Hawk was GREAT for years. Emphasis on great. Emphasis in "was."
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 02:57 PM) Hannity is cool supporting a self proclaimed p**** grabber and supporting Roy Moore but calls Kimmel "Weinstein Jr" for some old Man Show skits. Makes sense. Hannity conveniently ignorant that Kimmel's "Man Show" partner - Adam Carolla - was as semi-regular on O'Reilly's show and has toured with Dennis Prager. I guess if you lean to the right, what you've done in the past is irrelevant to Hannity.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 12:46 PM) Danny Mac I guess I shouldn't be surprised he got this new gig and didn't do a final "Unsupervised" podcast.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 02:41 PM) My sincerest apologies to Mr Boston, in truth I can whistle quite loud using the innie method but am incapable of the finger whistle or the standard blowing method. I am a hypocrite to the highest degree. Man, if i was flexible enough that I could whistle by blowing into my belly button, I'd probably never leave the house.
  16. White Sox @ Blue Jays. Plenty of good seats available. http://www.espn.com/mlb/video?gameId=380402114
  17. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 10:20 PM) Easter Sunday + garbage team + I plan to monitor it all year. I notice it for teams throughout the league all season when I see highlights.
  18. A little different spin on the age old thread. I maintain that the Sox aren't the only team with an attendance problem. Exhibit A - Nationals @ Reds. http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=22996266
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 06:31 AM) I agree with this. And I still don’t know how one person is going to protect a whole school. Once he or she is taken out, it’s, over. This doesn't solve the problem, either. The gunman will just move on to the next place that has a crowd of people and open fire. We've seen it at churches. Should we arm the pastor? We've seen it at a movie theater. Arm the popcorn guy? We've seen it at a night club. Arm the bouncers? Saw it in Vegas, and there aren't too many places with more security and surveillance than a casino. The psychos now have a template. Buy powerful weapons that can fire off rounds in rapid succession, go to a crowded place where people are corralled, and open fire. It's unrealistic to hire enough security to prevent this if the weapons are available. So, we have to eliminate the access.
  20. The original post was about the drugs CC was on started on page 21 (1/20/18 @ 8:31pm). It looks like that post was deleted, but you can see it in the quotes of subsequent posts.
  21. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 16, 2018 -> 07:09 PM) That 18 school shootings this year figure isnt exactly accurate... https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/no-the...m=.4e7203f9b404 Isn't the Washington Post one of the "fake news" sources? Why should we trust this story?
  22. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Feb 11, 2018 -> 10:42 PM) Are confidence pools done by spreads? Generally, it's just picking the winner (straight up), and ranking them by confidence 16 points to 1 point. I use the point spread, as I'm sure everyone does. I also use the rule that Vegas gives the home team 3 points. But, if you use it strictly, it seems there's always an upset or two in the 10-12 range. I've never taken the time to see if there is a trend.
  23. My kid finally finished the project, so I thought I'd provide the result. First, the expectations for his project are much less than I had in grade school. All he really had to do was collect data and analyze it. If it had been more of an "experiment," the expectation would have been to perform the experiment and record the results. Then, a five minute presentation in class. When I was in school, it was that plus a 8-10 page typed research paper with bibliography, etc., and we had to do it on a typewriter. Such a pain. Anyway - the results (highly flawed due to sample size): Top 10% in High School class earned considerably more than those ranked 11%-last in the class. There were a few outliers that skewed the data toward this result, but overall, it seemed to trend that way if the outliers were removed. I'm just glad it's over. Thanks for your help.
  24. The only gambling I do is NFL Confidence Pools. I have a pretty good method that always keeps me at or near the top of the Overall Season Total. Week to week, I tend to do well but drop one or two of the big point games. I plan on looking back at last season and seeing if I can figure out a trend.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 10, 2018 -> 10:58 PM) We should do a poll of who wants greg to voluntarily leave Soxtalk and who wants him to stay. I still say I have a silent majority that would vote for Greg to stay. Well, if they are indeed "silent," your stay here is ova. I'd probably vote for you to stay, though. Of course, there's alway a chance I'd just write in Jesse Ventura or Ozzie Guillen.
